Let Prisoners fight for their Freedom

Sonny Liston and Bernard Hopkins were convicts before becoming Champions, so why not let Prisoners who have the desire to fight, fix their lives, and be able to fight for their Freedom / shorter sentence. We would have to figure out who is allowed to fight and win their freedom (which would be to shorten their time), since Child-molester can go fuck themselves. In fact, I should not even have to bring them into discussion since they should be ass-raped until they die. The money earned would be also divided: some goes to community building (for child youth); some goes to the fighter for when he gets out, and some goes to other options. Not all Prisoners are "born badly"...maybe with some direction, some money, some love, they could turn their shit lives around. I have never done a study of my own, but I have heard/read that many Prisoners just do not know what to do with themselves when they get out. They end up back in their old neighborhoods, often having trouble finding jobs, lower self-esteem, learned little in prison in how to get their lives on to the "right path", etc. Only to end up back in prison. We could also put a device into their brains so if they fuck up, with a push of a button they would die. I just watched MI 3 this idea kind of sounds like this boxing movie I watched a while ago, called Penitentiary, and just like your idea, prisoners fought for their freedom. as far as the idea goes, I'm skeptical about it, it some ways it works and other ways it doesn't. If this idea was to happen, it would have to done on certain terms.

That would be one of the worst ideas ever implemented into the criminal justice system. You'd have serial rapists, murders, and drug dealers who hit the gym and boxing ring just to get back into the street to do what they loved to do. Would crime go down? No. Would all these men clean up their lives? No. You'd just have the biggest bastards with the best boxing skills back doing what they always did. It'd almost be encouraging criminals to become super-thugs bristling with muscles and fighting skills. Bad idea. But I see where you cam from...I guess. review prior posts for details and if we think they could not change their lives around, we should start executing instead of waisting money

do the crime do the time... Yes, but this is also debatable since our judicial system is a bit unfair. If you are Rich, you are more likely to get off and or get less time. Petty crimes can get you 5+ years, while "White Collar" crimes like stealing from the people; get you an insignificant punishment. Starting a War = bad press, no jail time Smoking Weed = jail time for those that are poor-low middle class Stealing because you are poor and hungry = jail time, especially if you rob a bank Stealing from the "People" of the land = welcome to Politics and Business 101. Yes, I can see the fairness in this Should we not try to fix the judicial system? What type of society do you want to live in? Do you want boxing? Men beating the crap out of eachother? or is boxing a "Metaphor of life" like the ancient Greeks thought What does locking people up actually mean? is it not a failure of society? or maybe it is nature's way of evening things/keeping it balanced. Then we would have to see if we could work with nature. Many things to think about, but we all must question what we like, our intentions, our vanity, our life...

Problems... #1..People would call it cruel punishment #2..What about the people in prison who are to old or un able to fight how is that fair ? #3..Are only the winners going to be let out ? #4..How many fights would they need to take part in ? #5..Do you really wan't that guy who just robbed you coming out of prison a trained fighter ? #6..What if someone dies or is hurt in the ring ? Now your taxes are paying for this person for the rest of his life/or family restitution instead just for his sentence term. #7..How would you regulate amature Vs pros ? If you have a former pro in your prison you couldn't just let him fight some kid from the street. The pro would be disallowed his right to fight and wouldn't get early release. That's not fair. #8..Boxing would bring more gambling to the yard which can set off riots. 1. I do not think anybody can unless you think Boxing is "Cruel Punishment" and plus, these are convicts and most people care less about them. I also said that they would be paid as well. 2. They do not have to fight, each prisoner is given the choice to fight. 3. It would shorten their sentence, just like shortening their sentence for "Godd behavior", which they must display during the whole time. 4. MMMM, if you suck, you deserve to stay; nobody wants weak people back in society....kidding, or am I?...As long as you show a willingness to change your life, showing that you are disciplined by taking your "craft" serious, you can shorten your time. All fighters would also be required to take classes in education and other career jobs. Boxing would really be used as a tool to help teach discipline which something the prisoner may have not had before going to prison. It could also make him a better criminal, but my suggestion of implanting a device which would kill him/or locate him wherever he was, would be a solution. 5. Please, who is being naive? Government and others rob you every day. 6. Prisoner's will have to sign a release form. And maybe we should figure out how to prevent people from going to prison since it is costing us more money to keep them in there or should we not speak of that little secret as to why we/they want people in jail, $$$$hhhhhhhhh 7. First, you train to be a boxer, qualify, then fight on the big stage. Pro vs. amatuer, come on, do you think the prisoner is in there for not taking advantage of a situation? {that is if he is guilty} 8. Maybe we should think about shooting those that are involved in the riots. If somebody knows they will be killed for rioting, then how many would be willing to do such a thing? If they riot, are killed, we just saved us some money or at least room for a future prisoner.

yeah ok ideal but alot of the better fighter in jail wouldn't be allow to compete... b-hop armed robbery... the black rhino look what he did... next the will let the best tattoo artist out.... then the best singer they will call it "Cell Block Idol" and they will sing about murder robbing fighting drugs rep and then they would put half of rappers out of business i can't wait:banana:

That program can work... I hear you Bros, I'm for it too. Of course some cases you gotta consider. should one day Congress pass a "Draft" law, lot's of Inmates will be going to the War, the less violent ones anyway. That program can work if the Individual is willing to work hard AND lead a decent life.

Maybe we could have a hit reality tv show out of that. That would be great if they made a tv show,similar to the contender

There was a cool movie a few years back where gang members who were serving life were sent into a war and whoever made it home was free from prison. It would never work ^^^ like he said you can't send someone to jail for beating up someone just to have them beat someone up to get out of jail it makes no sense.

Im not sure that presenting violence as a legal way to get out of prison is a great idea. Sure would've helped tyson's career though.

Great idea... but no child molestars should be allowed... in fact no sex criminals period... no murderers either for that matter... probably nobody who has done an armed robbery... actually no violent crimes at all since they are potentially dangerous to society ... in fact... wait a second.... just about nobody in prison should be let out early for taking up boxing because they've earned there damn sentence and they should serve it. I actually think they should bring back prison boxing programs because they teach discipline and respect, but it would be ridiculous to let prisoners out early for taking up boxing. Or we could discuss the Failure of our Society that leads people to prison, which I add those that are innocent but are wrongfully accused and sentenced. Just because you are in prison does not mean you are guilty. Just like those that are guilty, but do not go to prison. If our society has so many in prison, lets look in the mirror to see why. If somebody is hungry, poor, and has trouble finding a job because he has a poor education, ends up stealing to feed his starving body, how long should he get? And when you sentence him, if you are not part of the solution to make things better, sentence yourself for not pushing the betterment of our society to fix the problems. We lock up people because it makes us feel a little safer at night when we sleep, yet those that understand, do not sleep at night since they understand criminals are still running free.

Maybe we could have a hit reality tv show out of that. Sylvester Stallone could present. Haha, I like that. I can imagine Stallone, always maximizing the drama. as well the person should not be gang releated another thing it could stur more problems in prison like the movie " In Hell" where some of the fighters are risking it to gangs the guy was only a thief and now he is gang member which he cant quit
