simple question... what are/would u be traning your kid to do if it was very athletic????
even with boxing being my favorite sport if i had a kid i would send them toward other sports because even the best of the best boxer/fighter can and do end up without money in worser conditions than other athletes. lack of BIG money contracts such as football/basketball/baseball is why the kids don't come to boxing and parents don't push toward boxing.

I think that all kids (boys and girls) should have
- exposure to a combatative sport like wrestling, judo or some form of karate/kung-fu/taekwando/etc. Boxing might happen after they have this base of experience.
They are pure and individual sports which will give them confidence and get them used to handling bodies directly. It will train them to fall and give them some respect for what others are capable of. It will give them a baseline for self-defense.
- exposure to a team sport like soccer or football or basketball. The world's a complicated place and your kids need to know how to "play well with others."
- exposure to an endurance sport like running, bicycling or swimming. Endurance sports introduce you to hidden nooks of your soul and provide a strong base of strength for any other endeavors you might take on.
i have to kids and one on the way, they are both very athletic and my oldest is very tall and strong(like his dad, lol) he has a hell of a punch and loves to fight ive never seen a kid as co-ordinated and powerfull as him and hes only 5,but i live in england and soccer is where the money is at so thats where ill be channeling there energy.
I would love my kid to be a boxer but if he doesn't love it and really want to do it then it's not something I would push for him to do. If not boxing I'd go with basketball or baseball because those are the sports I played growing up.
I would prefer baseball for my son. Even top boxers often have at least some residule dimishing of mental capacity due to so much head trauma i.e. slurred speech.
Football is also very hard on the body and has a lot of post career surgeries and issues due to the violent nature of the collisions inherent to the sport.
Baseball would be my choice for my son, if your good you can have a longer career than any other major sport and it has least amount of future damage to an athelete because its generally a non-contact sport. The exception being catchers who put a lot of ware and tare on there knees.
