When Ali fought Frazier, the fisrt fight in 71, he clinched and grabbed Joe behind the head more in 6 rounds than Wlad did the whole night vs Peter...and Ruiz does more than Ali and wlad together
Clinching > Running
_____________
That is ABSURD. If you turn around and run away the referee - even Alfred E. "Randy" Neumann - will look upon that tactic critically. Clinching is, however, a perfectly legal part of boxing.

Do you understand what '>' means? I don't think we were in disagreement on the topic. Clinching is better than running, as a tactic. Two punches and clinch is better than two punches and out, for several reasons.
"Octopuss technique, 10 mins of clinches lol"
Ya wanna change the rules of boxing and make clinching illegal, fine, but don't try just misapplying your criticism to Wlad alone - and good for him for mastering the clinch. A lot of boxers don't know how to do it.
Ever see a Ruiz fight?
the comparison with ruiz is way off. ruiz holds,,,,wlad clinched. big difference there
It wasnt really clinching, it was outright holding on, setting out to hold not just falling into clinches, this was worse than Henry Akinwande.
There was also some great punching leading to the clinches, though. Watching just this bullshit video makes it hard to see how Peter can win the next one.

Good point beez721....Clinching is a tactic, holding is when they just want to survive. Remember what James "Bonecrusher" Smith did when he faced Tyson? That fight was an all time disappointment because instead of firing away, Smith just looked to grab and hold on whenever they got close.

exactly! Wlad fought smart. Even George Foreman said so. You do what you have to do to take a fighters weapons away from him, whether that be being evasive, wrapping your man up, or counterpunching. Wlad did the right thing and fought the right fight.
