I think that if May 5 is not a competive Fight the sport of Boxing will Fall from fans watching or ordering any big fights thats has lots of money involde. May 5 might be the best fight in boxing in a decade but it could also mean a Low blow to boxing and boxing fans.
What you guys think
There are a lot of big fights this year, but the average person has never heard of the participants. For example, Wlad/Brewster II is a great matchup, and so is Hatton/Castillo, Hopkins/Wright, Taylor/Spinks and Pavlik/Miranda.
The promoters are not doing a satisfactory job of getting the message out to the public. There should be ads in magazines and newspapers, time on TV, and maybe even posters put up in big cities in order to create more interest. People need to become familiar with the boxers, then they'll want to see more of them.
This PBF/DLH fight is the only one in a few years that has been smartly promoted. Maybe more boxers should hire Golden Boy Promotions instead of Don King!
I agree with you, but how could they promote them better? There are boxing mags, but you can't force people to read them. When they have local cards here, its promoted in the local papers and stuff. They usually have commercials on cable TV for any upcoming PPV boxing. They have a good amount of boxing on TV, with ESPN's Wednesday Night Fights, Friday Night Fights, The Contender, and here in Texas they have boxing on a Spanish channel here on Fridays too.
I agree with you on Golden Boy Promotions. My instructor said they pay better and treat the fighters better than other big promotions.
No, boxing will only take a hit if there is no clear cut winner. If a bullshit decision comes down or a draw.
I agree, I think a draw would be bad, but if it's a very close fight that can go either way, that would probably be the best-case scenario, or damn close anyways.
Think about it. There would almost definitely be a rematch, which means another huge hyped fight. The people who saw it the first time won't want to miss the rematch, and the the people who missed it the first time might want to see what all the hype was about. There will probably be arguments regarding the "real" winner, and controversy sells. I don't see how a very close fight with a toss up decision is BAD for boxing.
I honestly believe this fight is gonna be a stinker!
When they build a fight up like this it never lives up to whats
expected...
A boring running 12 round affair with maybe 1 or 2 exciting exchanges thoughout the matchup.......
I feel if the fight is boring it will probably detour the fringe boxing fans from watching anymore, but for those who watch the sport know that there is more than just Oscar and Floyd. I feel no matter how the fight turns out unless it is a bad decision boxing will be ok and there will exciting and great fights in the future. They may not have the hype this fight is getting though.
Whether its a good or bad fight, boxing needs to have more fights where both guys are big names. When the UFC has a sub-par show it's not so bad, another show will happen in about a month. Boxing only has 1-2 HUGE fights per year. So when a huge fight fails to deliver, fans know they will have to wait a long time to see the next one.
i think if the fight's a stinker it'll further boxing's slide and MMA will gain more ground.... this a marquee fight, that people(boxing fans) are talking about as the biggest fight ever(i disagree).... boxing will never die, but the gap between it and MMA is closing quickly and if this fight sucks(very possible) it won't help....
I don't agree with that.
There have been many entertaining one-sided fights that have done well.
As long as it's entertaining, I don't think people care if it's one-sided or not.
Niceguy45 if thats really a girl that you are trying to hit and she is sending you does pictures I wonder who is with her taking does pics. Is porbably another guy who is probably hitting that already. Man you better get on her quickly. If not some one else will
Im gonna agree. We need to see an absolute war out there. This fight has been hyped up more than any other in a long time. The fight has its own TV show. If it's a blowout then we'll lose everything except HBO and boxingscene.com Floyd needs to bring and Oscar needs to match him and land some real bombs. If Oscar knocks hm out (very unlikely though) we would be back to the days of Sugar Ray Leonard. If not we're FUCKED!!!!!!!!!!
No, boxing will survive not matter what happens on Saturday. Remember boxing is hugely popular in the Philippines, Mexico, Ukraine, Germany and Russia, and fairly popular in Britain, Italy, France and other countries.
A boring fight will be a further blow to the popularity of boxing in the US, but it won't be the KO punch.
I'm personally not very interested in this fight anyway, the biggest fights for me are Maskaev/Peter, Ibragimov/Briggs and best of all, Wlad/Brewster II.
you are a HW junkie :D
People are getting too hyped over the state of boxing.
NO, may 5th doesnt make or break boxing,
Boxing will always live on,
Boxing has a rich history,
Within 2/3 years there will be a more anticipated fight than DLH-Mayweather, it might not make as much money, but it will be more anticipated IMO.
