According to the Frank Warren website:
"Amir Khan will fight for his first major title at London's O2 Stadium - the former Millennium Dome - on July 14 against Willie Limond."

Amir Khan is not ready for Graham Earl yet, he was WBO # 1 only a few months ago before losing to WBO # 2 Katsidis. Limond is a good test for now.
He should fight Earl and Thaxton within the next 12 months. Needs 4 or 5 more fights.
Khan did say a few weeks ago that if these guys want to get in with him it will have to be within the next 12 months because he would have moved on to other things after that.
I wanna see him fight Earl, think that would be a good test.
Earl is durable, but would get murdered, besides who knows what the Katsidis fight took out of him.

his defence isn`t great and i dont think its something that will improve greatly because he doesn`t have the reflexes that his style demands at the very highest level.
His defence hasnt really been tested. His reflexes are very good. His improvement so far in all areas has been impressive.
Thats some nice conjecture based on absolutely nothing you just made there.
Limond is a pretty decent boxer and should give Khan some problems but cant see this fight being anything other than a khan victory. After this fight he should really fight someone who has any sort of a punch. He's gonna have to test his chin soon.
At least Limond sounds like an opponent that will be in the ring to fight with Khan. Not run and hardly do anything like Bull did. Looks like Warren is definitely protecting him with putting him in there against light punchers. I hope Limond actually gives Khan somewhat of a challenge and makes him work unlike his last fight.
Khan will struggle to win a world title... i think he is a european level fighter at best...his defence isn`t great and i dont think its something that will improve greatly because he doesn`t have the reflexes that his style demands at the very highest level.
with fighters like katsidis i think he can win a title, but i dont think he will ever be THE champ

Limond's a good fighter, certainly the best Khan has faced so far and the Commonwealth title is at least a genuine title. With a bit of luck he won't, as Rooq worries, be kept at that level for ages. I think he will be moved up simply because he won't renew any deal with Warren if he doesnt get the fights. People abroad seem to be interested in him and any other promoter in Britain would snap him up and give him what he wants. This is definitely a step in the right direction, although I do think Khan's gonna be in for a hell of a shock when he finally meets someone with some pop. I think Gary Reid would actually be quite a good first defence - limited but he can bang.
willy limond isn't much of a puncher, but he can take a punch as well. this should give khan several, if not a full 12 rounds of boxing which he desparately needs, and teach khan how to defend - Limond can be very tricky and theres no shame in losing to Alex Arthur.
but if warren has any faith in khan this needs to be the last light-punching opponent.
the bad thing about this fight is that if khan wins the commonwealth title, then warren can potentially get away with making him defend it against random no-names for the next 2 years instead of looking for the next step-up.
I wanna see him fight Earl, think that would be a good test. Thaxton would be interesting but think Khan would destroy him straight down the middle. Be good to give his chin a test if Thaxton can land a big hook though!
YEP.. I knew IT.. I never heard of HIM.... but I figured before I even looked that his KO% would be somewhere around the Typical Kahn oppenent average of 13.2%
8 Ko's in 29 fights= Another feather fist,,
I am telling you Khan is Glass jawed.. and they are going to protect him and make as much money as they can HYPING him up.. before someone with a little pop Exposes his China..
Well it is a step up for kahn and it is not a bad fight much better than his last, but limond doesn't have much power, hopefully he will fight someone with some a bit of a punch next.
I don't want Khan to be rushed. I think that is best opponent in his pro career. If you look at limond record carefully, he have fought some very good opponents with excellent ko's record.
This year, Khan will fight Limond, Earl, Thaxton for sure.
damn another featherweight with no power. and hes been ko'd by alex arthur. but still i guess its better than steffy bull lol.
Eh? He is lightweight.
In fact, it is impressive step-up.
