Just a question for the US fans really, you have two highly skilled fighters here who both are/were untouchable in their primes. It seems like Mayweather gets alot of hate for his defensive points building style,i remember Whitaker winning most of his fights in the same sort of manor,he never got in war's and just stuck to what he did best(as he should do).I get the impression that Whitaker gets great credit for his style and accomplishments and yet Mayweather gets hate. Two top class fighters who in my opinion will walk into the hall of fame with no problem but why the hate for one and not the other?
it seems as if black jesus is one of the only posters on this thread that is making great points and logical reasoning. many others on this thread are talking about humbleness and how floyd acts outside the ring. your arguments hold no real ground on this thread because you're not even comparing their fighting styles, rather you're comparing their personalities, and that's it. discuss how they fought in the ring. you know, like, i don't maybe defense, counterpunching, jabs, straight hands, overhands, hooks, uppercuts, precision, ring generaliship, savyyness, matches in greater detail other whitaker fought bigger names and never ducked anyone, and overall intelligence in the ring.
He doesn't fit the definition of a "thug." Ask a local black kid what a "thug" is and then you'll know the true meaning of the word. The racism thing only comes out because if you truely look at how everyone words their disgust for PBF you'll understand. They don't really say shit about Zab Judah and he's worse than PBF at being a "thug" or acting black... which is what most people think the meaning of a "thug" is. Zab has a grill, tatoos, and everything. They bitch about PBF because he hangs out with 50 Cent. Yet the same person would praise Eminem for doing the Elton John version of Stan. I can't stand his shit talking either but after May 5th if he wins he'll once again back his mouth up.
By assuming that the 'local black kid' knows the TRUE meaning of 'thug' u urself could be guilty of sterotyping and racism.
I think most people who hate PBF are basically racist...
Good for you. Maybe you should stop looking so hard for things that aren't there.
Floyd can blame himself for his reception. I pity Floyd and understand him in a sense, due to his childhood, but he still needs to take control of his life and act like a man.
10 years from now and people will ask.
Mayweather who? Or if he continues to do his ducking ways.
"Ahh the great duck".
At least he became great.
Do you honestly believe that.Im not a great fan of Mayweather but a blind man could see that this guy has great skills.I just cant believe that the American fans dont appreciate what a talent they have there.
Floyd is the best boxer around, taking competition and performances together.
But I don't find him very entertaining inside the ring and outside the ring he's atrocious. His sh*t talking is piss poor IMO, and I hope it is to sell fights cos otherwise he really is a little c*nt.
And to the guy shouting racism. Thats not called for, hang around these forums long enough and you'll see plenty of racism, but this topic is nothing of the sort. Floyd has acted like a thug in interviews, nothing to do with being black.
Simple, Hindsight is always 20/20. History will be the judge of PBF.
I think 10 years from now Mayweather will be remembered as one of the great boxers.

Ive watched a few interviews with Whitaker and he always came across as a decent enough guy.
Floyd has ALWAYS tried to be a fast talking hip-hop wanabe, and he always makes himself look stupid. Hes constantly annoying, cant take any level of critisicm, claims that he's better than Robinson and is a fucking crybaby.
Delivery: I disagree. Floyd is doing well because of HBO's corporate outlook which is willing to overpay the fighter perceived as P4P #1. Based on ticket sales and PPV, Floyd is a very average elite level fighter.
With the market today, and boxing currently suffering a depression, who grosses more money than Floyd Mayweather? Other than Oscar.
If being 2nd is now considered "average," then damn, you got some high standards.
Pacquiao? Nope.
Wright? Nope.
Hopkins? Nope.
Taylor? Nope.
Barrera? Nope.
Tarver? Nope.

Whitaker humble? hahahahahaha You guys must be teenagers or new boxing fans who weren't around in his prime. The only difference between Whitaker and PBF is that Mayweather hasn't been robbed of a decision yet. Honestly, if it was Whitaker fighting Jose Luis Castillo rather than PBF, Whitaker would have gotten robbed in that first fight...
Its all about his personality out of the ring to me. I dont hate him I just dont like him. He is however a great fighter but if DLH makes it a true war what will he do? To take it even further if he loses to DLH we will truly see what caliber of champion he is. Can he overcome defeat, what would he have left. Sweet Pea fought his legends and top opponents, he was a different person, theres a difference but there are some similarities
When Floyds career is over.....and he's beaten some real champs....if he does....I'll compare them.
They are both masters at what they do.
Sweet Pea at defense and just schooling you.
Floyd at being slick with a decent punch and running his gangsta mouth.
Dont be fooled...Sweet pea helped get me into boxing....time made him a bitter man sometimes. He and Floyed shared that more than you think.
Oh...but Sweet Pea could sell tickets also.
Wtf are you talking about? Floyd currently is the second highest paid boxer right now today, second to only De La Hoya. For the state that boxing is in overall, Floyd is doing very well for himself ticket-selling wise.
For all these people that don't understand how he's suckering all of those that will pay money just to see him knocked out.
He's a show man, and it's obvious, I think he tries too hard at times, which I actually find funny), because I take it for what it is: A man trying to make money.
Floyd doesn't care if people hate him, in fact he loves it, he relishes on it. He loves playing the bad guy, I think it's like a sort of character that he has and puts on. And let's face it's working. I mean just look around you, half the threads on NSB are about MAYWEATHER. In the sport of boxing, trust me, "bad popularity" does not exist.
The fact remains: When it's all said and done, and all the results are in (whatever they may be), 15-20 years from now when all the drama no longer exists, people will look back and see exactly what it was, it was a character, just like Ali had a character, Sweet Pea had a character, Leonard had a character, etc. Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be considered a boxing legend, and probably viewed as one of, if not the most skilled boxer ever.
And he will win on May 5th, I garuntee it.

I wouldn't lose until I had no choice. It
sounds like you don't respect a boxer UNTIL he loses. :ugh:
not really, i respected baldomir despite his 9 loss before fighting pbf

whitiker fought everybody ,, he moved up to fight the best . not just moved up
Mayweather has two hands and two feet. So does Whitaker.
The comparison ends there. Whitaker is the one has the bigger names and better accomplishments. Getting 'hated on' does not make you great. Let's see how Floyd does vs an older Oscar compared to how a coked-up Whitaker did vs young Oscar...then we can have a chat, maybe.
Probably a fruitless chat though if Floyd retires after the fight.
Good point!
thank you , and by the way whitaker was way better than pbf, has a better record thus far, and also it's not all about who is undefeated or not, a loss could give a fighter more credit than a win, a great champion has his day returns like a gladiator and gets his revenge and overcome that loss, not b*tch about.....guys like hearns, leonard, duran, haggler should be in the hall of fame by thenself and have a new hall of fame for this new generation seriously

I dont think Judah hits harder, but who really knows. To bad that Judah is often to causus and plays to much in his fights, becuase he has speed and talent. And he did give Mayweather problems earlie on in there fights, but Mayweather is a great fighter at adapting quick and take over his fights.
