This is a strange decision from Holyfield's people. It is completely respectable, but people don't make decisions based on that sadly. Why fight someone so few people have heard of unless there is absolutely no chance of them beating you? It isn't like he is going to get much for fighting this fight, and if he were to lose... well, its over Evander. For good.
The "no risk" mentality is what's hurting the hw division the most these days. Alot of prospects both in the U.S. and Europe to a large extent aren't taking the 'risky' fights and settling for the 'safe' ones.
However, if you want to get anywhere in this game, you have take some calculated risk and forget about trying to find the 'safest' fight for your fighter. Holyfield is determined to get a title shot and he knows the only way to get one is to take some risky fights and beat some decent opponents.
Why fight someone so few people have heard ofBecause he’s Eastern European.
Many casuals believe all the Europeans to be invisible Drago like characters who could kill another boxer with one hook. He looks the part being shaven headed and fights like a typical European and he has a win other a former champ (marketers can easily twist the win and claim he demolished Henry).
Evander beating him shows that these Easterns can be beat and gives hope to the American public which allows even more people to come abord the Holyfield for a World Title wagon.
Whoe ever the real deal faces , weather it be roy jones , or oleg platov, i hope he wins. and goes on to win the title.
I like Holyfield but he ain't winning a title ever again.

I've been hearing rumors for weeks that Holyfield's scheduling a June bout in Calgary, Canada and has been trying to find a decent opponent to face him. From what I've heard Platov is a good European prospect, and I think is a good test for Holyfield. The thing I like about Holyfield's comeback is that he seems to very determined and is 'earning' his shot the hard way by staying busy and gradually stepping up his competition.
I don’t know what to make of Oleg, but he has improved a ton since he signed with Sauerland. I guess I was impressed with his against clinch master Akinwande despite Henry’s age. Good step up for Holy me thinks.
