I mean does anyone not find it a bit odd that since he turned pro outside of Hopkins all he has been feasting on is Jr Middles? The guy is the most overrated fighter I have ever seen with his lunging and wide stance. He has a great Jab, no hook to speak of and a decent right hand. Am I missing something?
All you guys come on here and whine about people dodging fights and why won't so and so fight the best. Taylor dodges no fights and yet you people still whine and complain. He beats Ouma, beats Hopkins twice, whom many considered the best MW ever, then takes Wright to a draw. And yet you all still whine. I bet if he fought Miranda or Abraham next and won, you guys will still bitch and moan.
Most of the wins you names are scarred with contreversy. He was given the first fight against Hopkins, did little in the second to win decisively, he lost to Wright (by punch count and the look of his eye afterwards) and then fights Ouma who just stands in front of you letting you hit him. His resume isnt looking too great. Spinks adds nothing to his legacy.

No you're not the only one here, welcome to Boxingscene.com the home of Taylor haters.
If you know anything about boxing you will never compare Manfredo to Spinks, do you even know that Spinks is rated the #1 man at 154, he's the man that beat the man.
The Taylor/Spinks fight is between the best from 154 and 160, both Taylor and Spinks is #1 by Ring magazine.
What we had with Calzaghe/Manfredo is a guy that was fighting a TV reality star who lost to Alfonzo Gomez Jr.
I'm sick and tired of people not knowing shit about boxing talking out of their asses, if you're such a Calzaghe fan you should be looking at his resume first before talking about a guy who in his last 5 fights have fough Hopkins twice, Wright, Ouma and Spinks next!
Good post! :biggthump
Taylor has taken some tough fights agsinst some very tough opponents who came to fight.

I agree 100%
In his dreams he beats Kessler or Calzaghe. Were is the bashing on here for his fighting Spinks? Manfredo was a much better opponent than a guy that was a jr. welter at one point. I think Miranda or Pavlik beats his ass. I just don't get it.
are you serious? Spinks is better than anyone that ever went through the contender. Thats not saying much.
Taylor sucks. I can't stand him. I dunno but he bores the hell outta me and since he's stepped up, he hasn't done anything amazing. He had 2 shitty wins over Hopkins and 1 felt more like a gift. He lost against Winky though a draw was another gift to him. He's just garbage, your not alone.
this is my thoughts exactly
I think Taylor is a little underrated here to be honest. I mean yeah he's been feasting on little guys, but he has been fighting on at least the same level as Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins, so how could he be garbage? I have him 1-1-1 in those fights (loss to Winky, draw in the first fight with Hopkins), but they were all close. He proved to be about equal to them. How could he then be garbage? Am I actually reading people here calling him garbage because he didn't dominate Bernard Hopkins or Winky Wright? Come on now. Don't be stupid. Taylor may not be a top ten guy p4p (though you could sneak him in the bottom half pretty easily), but he is certainly a top fighter. And as for people comparing Spinks vs. Taylor and Manfredo vs. Calzaghe... hah. I love the logic. People rip Taylor for fighting Spinks at middleweight because Spinks is essentially a welter and that is a two class difference, but Manfredo Jr is essentially a junior middleweight and fought at supermiddle. That makes no sense. It is even in terms of weight, and Spinks is a much, much better fighter than the pride of Providence.
Spinks is not all that. Sorry. He's good but he has mental weakness and his stamina falters. I could see Manfredo beating him. Spinks is small compared to Peter, and Peter has improved a lot since Contender.
Anyway. The reason we don't see the truth about Taylor, Cletus, is because we are just unelightened fools who cannot have access to the same wealth of knowledge that you can. Thankfully, God left that to higher, more discerning men such as yourself.
I agree fully.
Taylor did not dominate Ouma like many thought he would. Instead, he held a lot, which was the main way he decided to thwart Ouma's output. It was lame. But hey, in the end he did win the fight, and Ouma is a tough opponent for anyone. Ouma will be champ at 154 if he gets the chance.
sir hopkins was not just the best middleweight i believe he was ranked p4p number one sorry your arguement is weak.
Can he stop living off of a win over a 40+ fighter by now then. He was P4P great, but Taylor is far from it. Why has Taylor never really fought a big puncher? These are good questions.
ANY Weight class, preferably his own would be nice. He is the Middleweight champ last time I checked not the Jr Middle champ. He has been doing this his whole career. My question is why?
I guess that is a 'no' to the question I asked.
sir did he fight the best middleweight in the world twice or not?
Yeah, but look at his record and Hopkins is close to the only true middleweight he has ever fought. Why? He is a huge middleweight at that, feasting on small men for years.
Can anyone name another fighter in ANY weight class that has fought tougher competition in his last four fights?

Hopkins completely dominated and embarassed Trinidad and Tarver. Although he didn't embarass De La Hoya quite as much, it was still a very emphatic KO victory. When Hopkins fought Taylor, he lost twice in a row. Given the rules of the 10 point system, BOTH of the fights were losses. There were definately 7 Jermain Taylor rounds in the first fight, I don't care what anyone says. Maybe the fight exposed the flaws of the 10 point system a bit, but still, under that system, Taylor was the definate winner, over one of the greatest middleweights ever in his prime, while taking a huge step up. The second fight he won a bit more clearly in another close battle.
His fight with Winky Wright was an extremely exciting fight, and there was nothing wrong with a draw as the verdict. Look at how great fighters like Shane Mosely and Felix Trinidad did against that version of Wright, and compare that to how Taylor did. It says a lot about Taylor. He also won almost every round against Kassim Ouma, and excellent fighter.
Winky Wright and Ouma were both very solid junior middles who were at that weight for a long time. It was not that big a deal for them to move up a weight class. Those fights happened because they were the biggest fights available. The only other big fights at middleweight were Abraham and Miranda, who were fighting each other and had not yet established themselves as stars. Taylor will probably fight Edison Miranda after Spinks, which I would predict him to win.
Cory Spinks is a very solid challenger as well. He was the linear world champion at 147, an excellent boxer. Yeah, he is small for a middleweight, but he is still a world class boxer. Someone has said that Spinks is an easier challenge to Taylor than Manfredo is to Calzaghe. Give me a fucking break. Spinks is a world class fighter, Manfredo came second in a reality TV show and his claim to fame is losing close decisions to Sergio Mora.
Wow, the Taylor hate here is off the charts.
First of all, sit back and listen to the news. He beat Hopkins TWICE. The first fight was razor close, but I thought he won 7-5, and he eliminated all doubt by winning the 2nd fight 7-5, incredibly easy to score too. The moral of both of those fights is Taylor won because of how agressive he was winging those big right hands. Hopkins didn't want to get hit with them, thought Taylor would tire, and he did, just Hopkins miscalculated when to turn it on in the first fight, and couldn't in the second fight because of the adjustments Taylor made stepping back with that little hook and jab. I mean, he fought maybe the toughest fighter to beat in the sport, because of that boring, cagy defensive style that Hopkins has evolved, back-to-back. And because he dominated Ouma like he should have, then he's overrated and hasn't fought anybody? Insanity. If there's anybody who has evolved that defensive style that tough to look good against better than Hopkins, it's Wright. And Taylor fought him to a draw in a very close fight that could have gone either way.
I didn't like Ouma as an opponent, but hey, after Hopkins-Hopkins-Wright, does the guy deserve a showcase defense or what? He dominated Ouma, as advertised. He's going to beat Spinks (and yes, I don't like this matchup either, Spinks lost to Judah, then I thought he lost to Karmazin and got a bit of a gift) and I think the Spinks fight is mainly because Hopkins, Wright, Miranda and Calzaghe are all scheduled.
He does need to step it up after he beats Spinks and make a big fight. But he does not deserve the ripping he gets from the morons on this site, that's for certain!
Shit, the same people ripping Taylor would go into convulsions if you criticized Mayweather's pathetic level of competition (at least for a self-proclaimed p4p all-time great) of Gatti, then Mitchell and Judah coming off losses. While Taylor is taking on Hopkins, Hopkins and Wright during that time. LOL Genius! Gotta love the double-standards! ;) Anyone wanting to criticize Taylor in this thread better have gone on the record tearing Mayweather a new one, nuff said!
