Enzo Maccarinelli successfully defended his WBO Cruiserweight title against Bobby Gunn with a 1st Round TKO, to be fair it was a miss match but Maccarinelli did his job with style.
Anyone impressed, I think he should be looking for Haye or Jean Marc Mormeck next, thoughts?
Alright, let me re-phrase then:
The entire card proved to be anti-climactic, especially with some of the bouts ending the way they did.
I don't "question" this stoppage or even Calzaghe-Manfredo - in both fights, the outcome was never in doubt (arguably before the opening bell). But for a night of mismatches, I just wish we could've seen more explosive endings.
Are people actually questioning the stoppage??
Seems to be a trend this weekend.
Gunn was fucked. If u look at his eyes he was spaced out. The ref was lookin very closly at him. Whats the point of letting it continue?
Perfect stoppage.
I just wish Enzo Maccarinelli was a heavyweight.
after the first count gunn didn't even bring his hands up...he was practically supporting himself on the ropes whilst nodding he was ok to go on. but seeing as the ref let it continue at that point, he might as well given it the rest of the round or until gunn actually got knocked down again.
this might not give any evidence of macca's standing as a cruiserweight, but given the opponent placed in front of him theres nothing more he could have done.
exactly, this was all I was trying to say
A quick stoppage? WTF?
I'm just saying, there was nothing spectacular about the stoppage. People made it seem as if this was Pac-Marquez round 1 all over again. The ref would've been more justified stopping it after the knockdown than when he did. Considering the fight ending sequence, he either could've let the last 20 seconds run its course, or at least allow Enzo to score a more spectacular knockout. I mean, the fight ended on a jab! (though the ref started to jump in at the prior right hand). It just made the fight more meaningless than it already was.

We'll see how he does when he takes a step up in class and fights the likes of Haye, Mormeck, or Bell.
There is no doubt he is a very good puncher... Powerful and accurate, but we won't really learn nothing from fights with human punch bags like Gunn. Maccarinelli was KO'd early in his career (against Lee Swaby) but he seems to have recovered from that set-back.
Not that Bobby was doing anything (other than perhaps landing a low blow or two) but the refs on this card acted as if they were double-parked in a tow-away zone. Wasn't much of a stoppage, and certainly not evident of Enzo being worth a damn as far as cruiserweight titlists go

wont enzo have to fight a mandatory sometime soon?
thats two horsehit fights in a row... i dont think he is entitles to more than 1 more scrub without fighting a live guy
enzo vs. banks would be a great matchup.. for both guys, for boxing, and plus itd get the ol' USA vs. UK blood flowing all over again
haye is faster and more skilled imo. but if macca does land one of his power shots i can see haye ktfo.
unfortunately its pretty rare seeing a warren fighter against another big domestic name who fights for a rival promoter.
i'm guessing that if joe-taylor happens, warren will try to get a name cruiserweight opponent for macca on the undercard. o'neil bell could make a good opponent and create even more interest (PPV?) in the card.
Haye has speed and boxing skills on his side. Enzo has power and probably chin on his side. It'd be a bloody good tear up though and it's the biggest travesty of 2007 so far that terms weren't agreed. I'd be interested to see the result of any poll taken now on the result of that fight as I was pretty much in the minority of 1 that thought Enzo would take Haye the last time a poll was made.
Ur joking aint ya m8..
Warren never risks his fighters..
If he has Joe taking on Talyor already he aint gonna risk
Enzo against anyone decent...
And Amir khan will be still fighting stiffs in his 35 contest
He needs to ditch Warren from the off
I honestly can't see how Haye could deal with his power, unless he fights a perfect fight without taking clean hits. Maccarinelli's shots looked as hard as some of the harder punching heavyweights shots.

David Haye would KO Enzo Maccarinelli.
Johnny Nelson would have boxed the socks off Enzo Maccarinelli.
Jean Marc Mormeck would outclass Enzo Maccarinelli.
All Enzo Maccarinelli seems to want to do is beat up on no-marks. As soon as he steps up he'll be done for. He nowhere near the level of David Haye. The lack of quality opposition compared to Haye is atrocious.
The fact that he's a world champion at the weight and he's fought absolutely no-one is a fucking joke.
Enzo is good but is being protected from the big boys just like Calzaghe, do they share the same promoter??? lol
just searching on youtube and i found this video.
Watch from 3:30 min onwards. They measure Enzo Maccarinelli's punch, and Enzo Calzaghe and Joe Calzaghe are there training the Blue Peter presenter.
Now I know what Calzaghe means when he said he done alot of sparring for the Manfredo fight :D
I think Enzo Maccarinelli is the best Cruiserweight out there, no one hits as hard as he does.
I hope he gets a fight on next with Haye, Bell or Mormeck.
Lets hope Frank Warren doesnt fuck him over.
Agreed on all counts. Especially the last one.
