You wanna know why MANFREDO and MORA and GOMEZ are actually fairly big names in boxing?
Not because they are talented, but because they actually fought. They exposed themselves in wildly entertaining fight after wildly entertaining fight.
Shortly after Mora beat Manfredo to declare the Contender winner with over 6 million people watching, THEY FOUGHT AGAIN!!! and with an even LARGER audience watching.
What has Grady Brewer done since he won the big show? NOTHING!
What has Forbes done? He basically beat one of the hottest prospects in the sport, and clearly got robbed in the process. He's not the name Manfredo and Mora are, but at least he's more of a name then BREWER, who actually won the damn show.
How stupid can this guy be? He has basically ALREADY thrown any big payday out the window, Surfing for that big payday.
I hear he might fight Forrest... In almost 4 months from now... nobody is gonna know who he is by then. NOBODY!
That had the potential to be a pretty big fight, and the possibility to gain Brewer a very large payday... but certainly not anymore.
the guy is an idiot.
he won. you cant have a poor performance if you win. Maybe a poor showing.
Im not disagreeing with ur whole arguement though, Bundrage isnt very good, and he isnt very entertaining either. He clinches a lot
You can definitly have a poor preformance and win.
How about Dhop last week?
k9 put on a poor preformance against a mediocre fighter.
thats the bottom line.

Bundrage came back from the first barrage and schooled Smith until the Tenth, when he was hurt late. I think that he would have had the fortitude to get back to schooling him, had it been a 12 rounder.

k9 seriously struggled and was almost put down TWICE against Sims.
Not a good sign.

K9 lost a bullshit fight to Powell, please don't use that as a crutch for your argument.
And to say that Chris Smith is shot is also complete crap. One fight with David Estrada?????? I have no idea how he could be "Used up".
You're basically grasping at air in this argument.

If you're going to rate K9's inspired performance against a shot junior welterweight like Bravo, then please also factor in his barely outlasting already-used up Chris Smith, and his 22-seconds and out performance against Sechew Powell.
At best, I think K9 gets to where Sechew is now, and no further.

To be fair, the Powell fight is bullshit, although k9 would have probably lost a decision anyways.
Brewer is retarted and is NOT a good fighter.
How he beat Forbes is beyond me.
Look at his road to the contender finale though:
Vinroy Barrett (sucks)
Michael Stewart (old and decent)
Norberto Bravo (has heart but not skills, stopped in 7 by k9 and 1 by Berto)
Forbes (good technical fighter but is small and fought Brewer's fight)
If you happen to be better than the other losers on that show and win, your best option is to not fight. If you fight, you lose. If you don't fight, you're still remembered as that guy who won the Contender. Contender fighters are terrible at best. You cant just say their all terrible based on it being reality tv
some of those guys werent labelled as garbage beforehand

you didnt rate k9's vastly improved performance against norberto bravo ?
i think hes got enough skills to get by while he improves defensively.
he aint fighting for a world title in the enxt 2 yrs but i see him getting
to a level where hes fighting guys who have or will.
and no, i didnt judge him on the cut down versions of his fights

Grady grew on me from the show. I was glad to see that his family would be doing much better. But in my mind, I know that he's a sub-par contender. Most likely, he's looking for a big payday. I don't know why he wouldn't have looked for it and found it while his name was hot, though.
If Mora could sell 10,000 seats anywhere, then why did he run away from a middleweight title shot against Taylor? His concern, among other things, was only having 2 fans in Memphis and conceding home court advantage to Taylor. Not the words of a known-commodity, I would say.
Also consider this: Yes Mora came back and fought Manfredo in a rematch - he had that luxury, and only because The Contender was forcing it down everyone's throat as early as the 2nd round of their FIRST FIGHT. Listen to the God-awful commentary from their first fight, that's all you hear Sly yelling throughout the broadcast. "Oh, there's GOTTA be a rematch! There's gotta be a rematch."
Otherwise, Mora had fuck all going on. He fought seven months later, against Shark Attack, then Regan... and hasn't done shit since then, except pull out of the Taylor fight.
Yes, Mora is more well-known than Brewer, I never denied that. But for the moment, he's now better known as the cat who blew a golden opportunity. Besides, he's in the prime of his career, whereas Brewer is at the tail end. The Contender finale may very well have been his last hurrah.
That was my gripe with the 2nd season, it had more of a boxing feel, but its best fighters (Brewer, Forbes, Bravo, and even better known cats like Stewart and Ebo) were on the downside of their career. Wright and K9 are the exceptions, but K9 is going nowhere.
You're basically criticizing Brewer for not cashing out last year. When he was ready to make a move, he suffered an injury. Now, he's rehabbing and is looking to come back as soon as possible, even if he doesn't have much time left in his career.
Mora's in his prime, hasn't fought since last August, and has pissed off the biggest player in the game (HBO).
You tell me who's the idiot between the two.
This man speaks the truth.
As limited as the other Contenders you mentioned are, Brewer is a far less talented specimen than those guys. Brewer won the lottery and didn't cash the ticket.
I mean Ryan I would say that Brewer cashed in by winning the event and the money he will make for his next fight will definitely eclipse what he made in a year at his crap job. Hell even if Brewer loses his next fight, he will still make more after that fight then in his previous job. As long as Brewer has invested his money or not spent it, then why rush in, get healthy. He has more grit than some of the others and is more talented than meets the eye. His akwardness in an attribute in the ring and his ability to actually see openings when they present themselves. Those, especially the last one is an intangible brought on by experience, but you can't underestimate an old dog like Brewer, but he has hit the limit of his talents.
