hey fellas, my first post here, but in no way does it mean that im not a huge fan. ive followed the sport for yrs, not as much lately, i train and fight in mma so my loyalty is leaning that way a little(sorry) anyways like i said in my title, is there so many damn champions, there needs to be a push for unification bouts!! anyone know why there isnt?? it would seem to me that if there was one champ in each divison, it would make boxing a little more credable in the eyes of many.. just my 2 cents any opinions

I think a lot of it has to do with promoters and money. Most of the champs have different promoters and you know how they are, its all about the money.
Yeah your right its all about the money. Some fighters want that payday instead of being known as the champ. You cant blame them because they do this for a living. Boxing careers don't last to long, even though there are some who fight forever, but well past their prime (with the exception of a few. Bernard Hopkins). There timespan to make the big paydays is short. Plus the sanction fees suck. Promoters who don't like working together.
More belts=More money for promoters and sactioning bodies. You have hit the nail on the head though, I feel this is the number one reason for the decline of boxing in the mainstream. Whenever you try to explain the belt situation to a person that's not a fan, well you get some strange looks.
I don't blame the fighters, take Wlad for instance, every time he tries to make a unification bout, mandatories pop up, or Don King tries to force him to sign future options for fights. Unfortunatley the only way I can see this getting resolved is if HBO and Showtime, only recognize the Ring Champion (as ESPN has done). However, ratings are higher for a "title" fight, so I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
