Let me start by saying this, my coach is an idiot. His idea of amatuer boxing is two guys standing in the middle of the ring slugging it out. He expects us to constantly throw punches with the other opponent, which can definately get your ass knocked out. Anyways, he gets mad at me when I try to "box" my opponents, you know, a quick combo and then get back and then come back in with another combo. Should I switch gyms or are all coaches like this?
umm alright i am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with my style since i have already won 2 matches (my coach put me in to fight after the first month, I was sparring on week 2), and I never said I cant do what he asks, I just find it to be suicide. But he thinks that we should be throwing a punch every second of the fight, which is ridiculous and will get your ass knocked out. All it takes is one lucky punch, am I right?
he might be trying to develop your basic defensive skills without having you become too reliant on biking around the ring..like learning to slip and parry.
or he might be conditioning you to fight that way in case you have to.
learn to stand in front of your opponent and trade...then when you can hold yoru own, you can float around the ring picking shots....
stop moanin and do as he says, if you've only been at it 4months you shouldnt be fightin yet anyway, and he prob tells you not to do "quick" combos because your shots arent landing on the target area
exactly
your coach dont want you to
go out there and have a corrales castillo
war every go. but you aitn ready or in the
position to be jabbin pivoting or anything on
anyone. get out there bust your ass and listen
to ur coach.
you think floyd was pretty boy when he started.
that stuff comes with experience trail n error LISTENING
TO YOUR COACH. not watching it on tv and thinking you can
do that on the hwavy bag you can do it in the ring.
go head spar the kid that listen to your coach and u try and
box him he gonna break you down.
save the boxing and slick shit for the pros
everytime i drop my hands and try to be cute
i get in trouble. i get warne by the refs
noone is telling u to go out there and swing wild and shit
but you stay in there keep your punches
short your hands up and stay active thats all
u just said ur new and u wanna spar someone
u cant even handle throing lots of punches ur coach
ask u for.
u aint floyd or sugar ray
u aint no boxer yet so how the
hell is u gonna box anyone sparring or
fighting?
have you ever seen a amature match.
most of the time the guy whos throwing loads
of punches wins. its about points and being active
you need to listen to ur coach or change gyms
hes right amature boxing comes down to who has better reflexes to dodge punches and the higher work rate since its all about who lands more punches. and maybe he doesnt actualy want you to fight that way but is just trying to get you to build more stamina since alot of fights turn out that way
Haha come down here and spar me and we'll see who sucks

Well I am pretty new (started about 4 months ago), and I noticed that I am the only one he tells to do this. He either gave up on everyone else, or he is trying to get me killed. I am guessing it is the latter.

Definatly switch gyms! Is he like that with everyone at your gym? I've heard of some coaches who take an interest in certain students and kinda neglect others leaving them to develop bad habits and poor technique.
