After a possible bout with Ray Mercer fell threw ( Mercer to fight mma Kimbo Slice), Rahman is looking for an opponent to headline a June 16 "Vs" card.
Several possible opponents come to mind such as, Evander Holyfield, Calvin Brock, Dom Guinn, or maybe even Tye Fields. But, in my mind, I think the perfect opponent and fan friendly fighter would be...."Baby" Joe Mesi!
This is a perfect opportunity for Joe Mesi to step up and put his undefeated record on the line against a quality fighter who's looking for a big win just as much as he is.
After fighting on "Vs" earlier this year Mesi, who looked pretty polished, stated that he wants to step up his competition and contend for a title sometime in the near future. IMO, it's time for Joe to make that step and put his career on the line.

I think Rahman is looking for a safe fighter to start his comeback with, that is why the Mercer fight fell through. I'd be surprised if he doesn't take an easy couple of fights before jumping back into the mix.
I'm not completly sold on Mesi yet, his brain got fucked up and we don't know if his brain can take big punches after that. The last guy he fought couldn't hit him so I don't know.
sorry man Mesi doesn't deserve to be in an eliminator of any kind. Mesi should be fighting the Rafael Butlers and Jason Gaverns of the boxing world. And I have both of them beating Mesi at the moment
I have an interview with Mesi on Monday for a different site. He is PR training, so I think that he might be in talks for this bout.
He did say that he wanted another ten rounder before stepping up, but I will ask him on Monday.
If Klitschko fights and beats Rahman, it will be the best win on his resume outside of Chris Byrd and a shot Mercer IMO. Probably on a par with the Peter win, although Rahman is a better operator.
are you serious? 40 yr old ray mercer was a better win as was peter,,,byrd,,mccline and brock. rahman is a joke and would be knocked out in 3 rounds

People talk about British boxers "not wanting to travel", but often I get the feeling it comes down to them being in the "no one knows them, who gives a fuck about them?" club. The only British boxer with a big enough name and industry credibility to get anything near a title shot would have been Audley, and we all know what happened there.
I mean, if Rahman drew up a list of possible opponents, would Danny even make top twenty?
I would think that Danny Williams should be able to get some high profile fights because of his name recognition he got from his exciting win over Tyson. But, I guess that it's a high risk low reward situation for U.S. fighters and also for fighters fighting out of Germany.
Personally, I would like Rahman to be Wladimir Klitschko's "stay active" opponent while he's waiting for a unification bout! This matchup would get a lot of attention and make a lot of money, and it would be a good name for Wlad to have on his list of wins. Rahman would probably want the title shot!
Sam Peter also needs a "stay active" opponent. Rahman would be an ideal opponent, but might be seen as too big of a risk.
There's a lot of heavyweights without scheduled fights that would be make interesting matchups for Rahman, such as Thompson, Williamson, Lyakhovich, and Virchis. Hasim would also be the perfect test for rising stars like Chambers, Dimitrenko, or Povetkin. :boxing:
Good post and good list, but do us a favor and get rid of TOS! The guy hasn't done anything of late and doesn't deserve his low ranking.
Anorak, IMO the biggest problem with British hw's is that they don't seem to want to travel to the U.S. to fight any noteworthy opponents, save Mike Tyson. It seems like the circle of Britsh fighters (Harrison, Skelton, Williams, Sprott) are doomed to just fighting one another.
You know, every hw boxing fan would want to see Danny fight Brewster, Rahman, Briggs, etc. but it doesn't seem like it will happen.
rahman vs holfield II might be alright, it would be a good test as to where each fighter is. plus the first one ended real weird with that knot above rahman's eye....
Before I got into the thread I was thinking "Damn who could he fight" because while a seasoned pro I just don't see him getting over the hump again.I like Mesi as an ooponent tho and give him a good shot of winning due to his aggresive style....although he has no looked too great so far in his comeback.....I also don't really like Mesi but either way would find this an interesting fight.
Did you see Mesi's last fight?... I thought he looked pretty damn good, albeit against a tomato can fighter. I think a determined and hungry Joe Mesi can not only win this fight but also win some (needed)credability from the hw boxing world.

Yeah Mesi would be a good fight for both!
