One of my mates told me a while ago about Ike 'The President' Ibeabuchi, he read about him in an old Ring magazine. I looked him up and although I've not seen any of his fights he sounded like a good boxer! :boxing: He was 20-0 with 15 KOs most notably defeating David Tua and knocking out Chris Byrd! Some dubbed him the 'next' Mike Tyson! He's serving a huge jail sentence for rape but I read an article ( www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2004/08/ibeabuchi_close.php )where he stated that if he got early release he could capture a World title but his parole hearing he wanted to get released on was denied in 2004 but he's applying again August 2007. He's just turned 34 and has served about 8 years in prison. If he was released this year do you think he's been out the game to long to be a serious contender again? I don't think hes to old but he may be to rusty and he may not get let out. Has anyone seen him fight? If so whats your opinion on him?
LOL, yeah he did say it. It was when Ike was up for parole a couple of years ago. Byrd's exact words were "Ike would've walked right through Lewis." Yer talking about what Byrd was saying right after the fight. Byrd never gave any of his opponents credit, but he did say that.
welll,,,if he did say it his opinion means nil considering he never even fought lewis. of course he's going to say that to make himself look better becuase ike beat him
lol,,,,,byrd never said that. he actually said Ike was slow and that he just got stupid and careless against the ropes and got caught. byrd never gave ike any credit in there fight

i just watched tua and ike on espn classic last week, i was happy as hell to see that it was on..... as far as scoring goes, ibeabuchi clearly won the fight and really busted tuas ass up with the jab down the backstretch.
its ironic that ibeabuchi turned out to be a total nutcase, becuase the thing that struck me watching that fight was how composed and determined ike was... he did everything he needed to do to win the fight. if tua hit him with a jab he hit him with two back.. if two threw two punches, ike threw three... ikes corner was a bunch of morons who acted like theyd never seen a fight before... never really gave him useful advice yet he executed a very precise fight plan from about round 6 forward....
ike layed a blueprint on how to whoop tuas ass, i bet a lot of guys such as lennox felt a lot more confident about fighting tua after seeing what ike had done...
the broadcast is funyn cause kellerman and whoever the hell else is doing it must say "i cant believe it yadda yadda yadada" about 100 times cause they cant believe ibeabuchi is winnin the damn fight
I think you are talking about the Tua of today that throws like 3 punches a round. The Tua back then threw combos & was a lean 228 lbs back then. That fight was supposed to be a showcase fight for Tua but ended being a good heavyweight fight.
yea,,,,tua was much better then,, no doubt,,,but he still showed vulnerability. maskeav around the time had only 12 fights and was beating tua through 10 rounds till he got caught late. anyway,,the tua ike fight was very close and could have went either way. I still think ike was solid and a very good heavyweight but I just think it was way premature to be talking like he would be the next king of the division. I have doubts that he'd be a dominating champion. I think boxers such as lewis would have beat him from the outside. he looked vulnerable to a good boxer puncher with a good jab
he was overrated in my opinion. he was a strong solid heavyweight and had some skills no doubt but he only had 20 fights and 15 stoppages. he was somewhat untested. chris byrd was just too small and we know how one dimensional and beatable tua is and that fight was very close,,,,I had it a draw. lewis would have knocked him out or won a lopsided decision as long as he came in focused to fight ike

I just found his fight against David Tua on you tube. Its in 7 parts so I'm gonna watch it tomorrow when I'm less tired and see what he was like! He could've been the future of heavyweight boxing if he hadn't been a dick and raped a girl!!

Of course Byrd is gonna say that, Ike nearly took his head off.
ahhh, time for the monthly edition of "ike ibeabuchi would've been champ".
okay let's get down to business.
pros:
powerful build
good power (not devastating 1-punch-KO kind of power like some will tell you, as he was more of an accumulation type of guy)
scary, intimidating mother fucker
incredible stamina/punch output that was rare to see for such a big guy
great hand speed for someone built like a dozer
iron jaw
pretty good jab
knew how to throw, short and snappy combos
cons:
psycho
got lazy in his training several years before getting locked up
abused his sparring partners till he had none left
his weight had gone up towards the end of his career, he carried it very well since he was a physical specimen, but a lean 235 was his best weight...and i honestly think it's safe to assume that even if he had never been convicted, his shotty training regimen would've caught up with him.
he looked more sluggish, and threw less short, snappy, combos in his later fights
psycho
landmarks:
going toe-to-toe w/ david tua, in one of the craziest HW bouts of the '90s, breaking the compubox number of punches thrown ever in a HW fight...and these two weren't a couple of pitty-pat punchers either, making this feat even more amazing.
knocking chris byrd into temporary retardation, with hilarious drooling effects.
and btw, most agree he stylistically resembled a tanked up version of evander holyfield rather than mike tyson.
lol! psyco hahaha

He was pretty good. I watched him coming up. The Tua fight was close though and could have gone either way. The television announcers had Tua winning but we know that doesn't mean much. The thing is, that the Tua fight was so close and Tua in spite of his great power we know could be outboxed, so skill wise Ike was somewhat limited. In his earlier fight with Marion Wilson he also had trouble. The Byrd win was very impressive but like Tony Ayala before him, Ike's potiential was no garantee he would have been as successful as people say.
In my opinion, he would have dominated the division. Even Byrd said he would have walked right through Lewis. He potentially was that good. He was just too fucked up mentally.
He's very messed up in the head... Probably took a few too many clean shots from Tua. Even if he managed to lose the weight and work hard in the gym he still could not compete on the top level. He's done.

ike was dope he had power some speed
