I dont think Barerra did it because he was losing, but whatever none of us know what was going on in either guys mind. I just think both are just as bad as one another. I've already given my opinion several times so Ill just agree to disagree.
I appreciate that some have elaborated further than the oft repeated:
"RJ threw 2 shots.."
Barrera was worse.
I'm sorry to see the voting is so close..
Griffin was in trouble when that happened. RJ had things in hand.
Barrera was in major trouble when he fouled.
He also ruined a KD for himself..
I'll say it AGAIN:
Dumb move by a smart fighter.
Ugly the way that looks.. Just fucking ugly.
Jones was losing? You honestly can't believe half the shit you type... or even a quarter of it. I'd debate this point but it's not debatable...
Fact: Jones was winning
Fact: You're an idiot
I'll have to watch it again, but I do remember Griffin frustrating Jones and taking him off his game early. Boxingrec has changed their score of the fight recently. They used to have it listed 69-68, 68-67, etc or something like that with Griffin leading on 2 of the 3 cards. Now it's the opposite, with an extra round of scoring, like 77-75, 76-75, etc with Jones leading on 2 of the 3 cards.
Did they change it and score the partial round with the knockdown in round 9? That's what it looks like. Anyone have the actual scorecard of the fight? It'd be interesting to see now, esp since boxingrec has completely reversed themselves with no explanation after having it listed a different way for years.
Either way, Jones Jr was clearly frustrated and wanted to end that fight- that's what lead to the DQ in my opinion. He hardly EVER showed a killer instinct like that, to lead him to hitting a downed fighter. Shit, he'd have dead fighters in front of him he should be hitting and he'd carry them for whatever reason, rather than stepping it up and taking them out.
Watching Barrera's clip again I'm HIGHLY disturbed by the perception of some of the people I have heard comment on this.
Nady knew exactly what he was doing.
Barrera and Marquez were directly in his field of view.
Barrera COST HIMSELF the KD.
He should have been DQ'd!!
Watch it again, those of you who are confused..
Great post!
Although he is a great boxer Barerra has a habit of breaking the rules. Hitting a man when he is down is not part of boxing. Barrera knows this yet he made a conscious delay before striking Marquez. This sort of behaviour can not be tolerated. In my view Barrera got off lucky. Yes, he should have been DQ'd!
Assuming you had Griffith ahead on the scorecards (which I suppose I'll allow because I'm such a nice guy) doesn't negate the fact that Jones was turning up the heat and wiping the floor with him (during the latter half of the fight in particular). The fact that Griffith had to result to pretending to be knocked out by those shots is evidence enough that he knew he was going to be beaten.
Jones did have him figured out at that point but had gotten frustrated is all. The proof to who was superior was in the second fight. The RJ from the second fight made me glad of the DQ in the first one.
I had Griffith winning and he was frustrating Jones and that was the reason for the cheap shot.

Jones hit Griffen twice on the chin while Griffen was down on his knee and knocked him out, Jones was also losing the fight and wanted to end the fight in a dirty way, that is why Referee Tony Perez DQ Jones!
Big fucking difference if you ask me!

Barrera could have not hit but he choose to
both foul are bad but the effect is probably jones but i voted for Barrera because he hand a clearer chance not to KO but still went on with it
Easily Barrera's.
Jone's obviously was much worse in the sense that it hurt more and whatnot but it wasn't as bad form's as Barrera's. JMM was clearly down and MAB had a moment to reflect on this before throwing another shot.
Jones' opponent (name escapes me) was going high and low and put himself up against the ropes as he ducked down. While he was ducking down he went to a knee; this could be very hard to tell and if a fighter pauses everytime his opponent goes low he wont be much of a fighter at all.
Take your heads out of your asses people.
Barrera's had little force compared to Roy's.
That's the question that was asked. It wasn't "Which was the most unsportsman like conduct: Roy or Marco?" Clearly, it was Marco's.
So...many people answered but I think they are possibly viewing the question in a different context. The Result or the Sportsmanship?
The worse foul dosent necessarily mean the punch which had the more power.
There are different factors which make a foul a foul.
In this case i think its the amount of time Barrera took to throw the illegal punch. It makes it more deliberate, and therefore worse.
Barrera's was worse IMO.
I think some people believe Griffin was actually KO'd. I, like most people, believe he was acting like a pussy.
Plus, the longer the opponent is clearly down before the foul punch is thrown makes the foul more deliberate. In this case its Barrera.
No one has mentioned what positions the fighters were when they commited the foul. Roy was dominating the fight and he could have knocked out Griffin at will (as proven by the rematch), he didn't have a reason to intentionally hit him when he was down, cuz he was going to KO him after he got up anyway. Same could not be said about Marco. He was getting hurt by JMM prior to the 1 punch KD. So he had more of a motive to hurt his opponent. Besides Marco is know for his dirty tactics, remember his cheap shot at Morales in their press conference.
Antonio, that is utterly subjective to begin with..
On top of that; this is Roy Jones Jr. we're referring to.
Are you really going to try to attach ANY sort of sequencing to a fighter as unconventional in his punch selection as him????...........
He could throw 48 left hooks and it could be transition.
(old RJJ)
its fun because its true
