Luan Krasniqi defeated Minto via 12 round UD (116 -111 twice and 115 - 112).
Luan was very cautious and didn't let his hands go as often as I would have wished. Minto threw an awful lot of punches but never really got through Krasniqis guard. Every time Luan decided to take the initative he seemed to hurt Minto.
In the 12th round Luan floored Minto with an uppercut, a left and two right hands. I was surprised that Brian got back to his feet after this beating.
It was a build-up fight, the work rate of Luan kinda dissapointed me, but all in all Krasniqi showed that he is easily a Top 10 HW and didn't lose his game during his 11 month period of inactivity
suprised minto lasted that long.
so dude, krasnigi looked in shape and is taking boxing seriously again?
beating minto put luan in top ten? you know you could be right. with all the clowns making up the hvwt division he should be in the top ten.
dude tell me you watched the sidorenko/cordoba on undercard.
was it really a draw or did wlad get a hometown favor?
sidorenkos the best. hope he dont pull a sven ottke. he needs to get out in the world.
Krasniqi looked in shape, yes. I believe that he thinks that time is running out for his dream of being a WC. So, motivation really shouldn't be a problem for his next bouts.
I didn't watch the Sidorenko bout ... but I will post my opinion in this thread as soon as I have.
....I would bet money on any of the four bolded versus Luan.
Byrd - has lost his key ability to win a fight against Krasniqi: speed. Five years ago he would've ran around Krasniqi for an easy UD. Today he loses because he doesn't have the power to keep Krasniqi at bay and doesn't possess the speed to avoid getting hit.
Ruiz - c'mon, the guy lost his last two fights against Chagaev and Valuev and lost the fight against Toney before it was ruled a NC. The last fight he won, he was knocked down twice by Golota. The same Golota who got exectued by Brewster. The same Brewster who had an epic encounter with Krasniqi. Ruiz was never a great fighter and has everything but improved during the last two years. His style would give Krasniqi problems but I believe Krasniqi is faster, has more power and a lot more confidence which would make for 2nd KO loss in Ruiz career.
Virchis - is the living definition for slow. The guy is so slow that his entrance is nearly as long as Hameds. The guy is so slow, that you probably cant knock him out ... because he falls like half an hour later. I've seen every of his fights since knocked out Taras Bidenko in the last seconds of their encounter and he has not improved one bit. Most of his fights are horrible to watch and his bout with Chagaev could've easily been the worst fight I've watched 2006. Krasniqi outboxes him with ease and doesnt have to take any risks on his way to a total shutout.
Valuev - I still think hes nothing more than a freakshow ... a giant freakshow. I have to admit that I was surprised with his stamina against Barrett and I like how he has improved gradually over his career. Anyway, he was on the (very) lucky end in two MDs against Donald and Ruiz and apart from that he hasn't really done anything important. He'll get exposed as soon as they allow him to face a hard-hitting top HW ... and Krasniqi is one of them.
BTW, how was fight itself? Any good exchanges? I'm kind of dissappointed that Minto lost but what can he take away from this fight to make himself a better fighter?
The fight was nothing special. Most of the time Luan was against the ropes and Minto unloaded on his gloves, shoulders, anything, until Luan would move away and fire a shot. Luan had some clean hits that made him win most of the rounds.
I don't know why a lot of people say that Minto is a technically sound fighter ... bescause he's obviously not. The guy fights dirty, always gets head first in the infight, lacks precision in his punches, etc. He has a lot of will and determination though, which got him 2 decent paydays in a row.
Luan said in the after-fight interview that he boxed very cautiously because he didnt want to take any unnessecary risks as he plans to box Shannon Briggs later this year.
It was a good test for Krasniqi after his injury ... but nothing more.

Ten heavies who would beat him:
1. Vitali Klitschko
2. Wladamir Klitschko
3. Sam Peter
4. Lamon Brester
5. Nicolai Valuev
6. Shannon Briggs
7. John Ruiz
8. Hasim Rahman
9. Sultan Ibragimov
10. Calvin Brock
I'd favour Serguei Lyakhovich and James Toney over him as well.
Well, name ten HWs that you would put above Luan.
I will give you both Klitschkos, Peter, a game Brewster and that's basicly it.
Maskaev, Ibragimov and Rahman are at his level and Toney is done.
I would pick Luan against the likes of Valuev, Byrd, Ruiz, Skelton, Virchis or Danny Williams any day of the week.

i dont get all the respect for krasniqi on this forum
he has no power to speak of.... big deal that he outboxed brewster, so did everyone else... clifford etienne anyone?
he also lost to saleta (nobody) and drew with timo hoffman... eked out a decision of sinan samil sam... and that was in his prime
krasniqi is not top-10 and he never will be.... he dodged tony thompson when a win over thompson would have mde him the WBO #1contender... who the hell does that?
i hope someone wants to give him credit for beating lance whittaker so i can laugh at their ass.. krasniqi wouldnt last 4 rounds with klitschko, and he cant knock out david bostice
He beat Saleta in a round in the rematch. I think he's just had issues with dedication and taking his eye of the ball, most notably against Brewster, as well as being gun-shy at times. But the fact of the matter is, he's a good technical boxer who on his day has a chance against most of the heavies out there. I think he's a good steady boxer in a bad division. That's basically the gist of it IMO.
...Nice win, but calling Luan a top ten heavy might be a bit of a push. Lets see him actually beat someone and get back in the mix and then we can talk.

I've always believed he's a top 7 or 8 heavyweight. He needs to hurry up though if he wants a belt as time is not on his side.
His plan is to have one more fight and than challenge Shannon Briggs in the 4th quarter of 2007.

thats too bad i was hoping for a minto win, though i figured this would be the way it ended up
hopefully now krasniqi will sack up and fight tony thompson
