I don't neccesarily like his choice of opponents, but he has won me over with the following quote from his interview in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:
Taylor said he is ready to fight Spinks, or anyone, but said he was surprised to be fighting in Memphis again considering that the FedEx Forum was only about half-full for his fight against Wright. Low attendance was attributed to high ticket prices, something Taylor is lobbying against.
"I just hope to god that they don't make the tickets that high," Taylor said. "That's the only way I'm going back to Memphis, if they make the tickets affordable. I mean, I like myself, but for $600, $700, I'll watch myself on TV."
Dibella said most of the problems that came from the last fight in Memphis arose because of conflicts with the local site promoter, Prize Fight Boxing. DiBella said that won't happen again because he will be promoting this fight himself.
"The ticket pricing will be extraordinary for people who want it to be affordable," DiBella said"
Why fight cory spinks when he can fight these guys
Arthur Abraham
Edison Miranda
Roman Karmazin
Why look for opponents in the weight below when there are worthy opponents in the middleweight division
Cory Spinks already beat one of them.

What I meant was that for a celebrity to care about the little guy is easy- they aren't the little guy. They can say in an interview they give a shit but when everything about Jermain Taylor is worth tons of money he probably isn't quite connected with Joe Schmoe. He wants asses in seats for his success, or pride- he doesn't really care about how much the seats cost. If he makes $500,000 for a fight...how many people here make that much in a year? He can do that for 6 months work...so why not fight for free every once and awhile? Ridiculous- yet possible. If he really cared deeply about our wallets. Point is, he probably makes more than what I said per fight and yet isn't offering to fight for free or begging to be on regular HBO over PPV. He still wants his money.
HBO and Promoters want money, no one will run a free title fight, it just couldn't happen. HBO wants its cut, promoters its, everyone needs the money. Just be happy a boxer is actually giving a shit about the fans instead of nitpicking.

That's a nice quote.
Good post. :fing02:
When Jermain goes to the bathroom and cranks one out the little droplets of sperm that hit his porcelain sink are worth $600, $700. Athletes and pseudo celebrities can afford to sit ringside because of how much respect our culture gives them.
This makes no sense.
