MANILA, Philippines -- In what could be the biggest break in his boxing career, Bobby Pacquiao hopes to step out of his older brother’s shadow when he takes on WBC No. 2 Humberto Soto in a 12-round showdown on June 9 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, USA.
The Soto-Pacquiao showdown will be the chief support to the huge Miguel Cotto-Zab Judah title bout promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank.
“I think people are going to see a fighter that people recognize as better than either Barrera or Marquez and he’ll be fighting at the Madison Square Garden on June 9 against Manny’s brother Bobby Pacquiao,” Arum told **********.
According to a source, Arum had given the younger Pacquiao two choices for his next fight: a bout on April 27 or a mega-showdown with Soto on June 9, which will offer him a bigger purse of $150,000 -- the biggest in his career.
Pacquiao, however, said he had opted to see action on June 9 not only for the bigger money, but also to prove that he belongs in the world’s elite fighters with a victory over Soto, who is being described by Arum as “someone who is better than both Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez.”
Soto, who hails from Tijuana, Mexico holds a fearsome record of 41 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws with 26 KO’s, and has been unbeaten since 2002.
Soto earned the right to face the winner of the Barrera-Marquez showdown this Sunday after he beat Ivan Valle in an eliminator last year, although the World Boxing Council later said Arum had handpicked the opponent.
Bobby Pacquiao, meanwhile, has already gone back into training and is currently working on his visa for his trip to the United States, following the loss of his passport. Salven L. Lagumbay, contributor
Calling Soto a ducker is hilarious. He has been ducked ever since he beat Juarez, and will continue to be for a while. Think about it. Since his win agaisnt Juarez, he has fought lower level competition while Juarez got a shot against Barerra and might get a shot against Chris John. Soto is stuck fighting the Bobby Pacqiuos of the world, while Juarez gets title shot after title shot.
yeah i agree with this. hes had 4 straight kos since the jaurez fight though and has been the wbc #1 for a while. hopefully he'll get the shot he deserves.
Wow I almost feel bad for bobby... almost ;-)
dont ... on this bout bobby is getting his biggest pay check ... 150k
not too much fighters from the Philippines gets a chance to fight for this kind of money...

I always wondered why Freddie traines Bobby too.He can't possibly like what he see's in the guy.Is it stated in his contract with Manny or something?
As Pacman's small brother, Bobby has a lot of weight to carry just to make half of the accomplishment of Manny. When Manny passed the GED equivalent in Philippines and Bobby did not, in Pacland, he was making fun of and ridiculed by its members. But there are some perks of being a brother though of Pacman. He gets sign by Top Rank and got some exposure in the US. Also being train by Freddie Roach is good. Bobby is a techinically better than Pacman but seems lacks the heart and mindset. Hopefully he gives more dedication. Even though he has more than 10 defeats in his records, hopefully he can be the lighterweight version of Glen Johnson. He really needs a break.
the odds are against bobby on this one, but i still give him a fighting chance.
bobby hs nothing to lose in this one, and if soto is thinking like this is a tune-up fight he's dead wrong.
bobby eats goat meat like i do, for cryin out loud.
This should be a good matchup. Bobby is pretty tough and has a lot of heart and determination, but Soto is the real deal. Bobby will hang in the fight for a while, but Soto will get to him in the late rounds. In his last fight against Toledo I was impressed with his boxing skills and just how hard he hit. Maybe this could set up a fight with Manny which would be awesome.
The article said Bobby is already in training, 3 months away from the fight. Hope this training prepares him to upset Soto. He also should get his own trainer, not Roach who has diffirent top notch fighters.

Soto by KO. Bobby sucks. Let's get real, I dunno how the f*ck he won those last few fights in a string minus his disqualifaction loss.. He pulled miracles in a lot of them. I think he'll be KOed rather easily by Soto cause that guy is tough as nails and hits hard. He can also box if he has to so Bobby will be outgunned in every area.
