as tall as valuev is, he isnt hard to reach. if john the bum ruiz and monte barrett can reach valuev's chin, chagaev (who has more skill and more power than both of them combined) surely can.
Chagaev is the world greatest heavyweight, but then neither is Valuev. In boxing there is always a chance. I didn't think Feliciano had a hope in hell against Rodriguez, but Feliciano had heart and it was heart that won that fight. We will see what is in the heart of a man like Chagaev and how badly he wants to win.

You are very generous with your assessment of Chagaev's abilities!
As I see it Chagaev is good enough to slip the jab, hit Valuev and then bob, weave, roll or step out of the way. There is no need for him to take a solid hit. Barrett made things easy for Valuev by standing tall and going straight in at him. If Chagaev is able to learn from Barrett's mistakes he can beat Valuev.

You seriously think that Chagaev is better than Ruiz and Barrett? He defeated Ruiz very convincingly but Ruiz was fighting a very strange fight that night. He is better than Barrett though, I agree with that.

John Ruiz demonstrates how:

Just get underneath that slow jab and hit him.
and your point is what?
ruiz lost to both valuev and chagaev, both valuev and chagev are superior to ruiz
He has 2 chances of beating the great russian giant....slim and none!
He couldn't beat Valuev if he brought a bat into the ring!
Valuev will break marcianos record! And go on to become the greatest fighter of all time...(well maybe i'm exagerating a bit)
He better hope Wlad doesn't get into the ring with him first.

It's an uphill battle for Chagaev, who is 6' tall at BEST, maybe only 5'11". He's not the 6'1" he's advertised as IMO.
If he does win, it's by finding a way to the body, consistently, and not getting nailed on the way in. He needs to attack that body with the hardest punches he's capable of, and moving out of range of the Valuev uppercut, which is usually a giant's favorite method of exterminating those pesky infighting midgets.
If he can weaken Valuev's body, bring the guard down, he can throw upstairs and test that chin of his.
It's not likely though. I think Valuev will fight smart and take him out late, or win by decision.
Chagaev isn't a great boxer, but then you don't have to be great these days to be ranked in the top ten. He is good enough make his presence known in a weak division. As a matter of fact he does a few things right as is demonstrated in the video:

Even if Valuev removes every technical flaw from his style, he will still have a long list of limitations, not the least of which is speed or rather lack of it. Just because Barrett and Beck just stood there and got hit does not mean that Chagaev has to do the same thing. Valuev is vulnerable and it doesn't take a lot of talent to exploit his weaknesses. Chagaev has enough ability, the question is does he have enough ambition?
Excellent post, Tater. Have some K.

Wooh! I didn't realize that Rocky Balboa is as big as Valuev.
:D
Its from all the Steroids he got when Evander Holyfield Retired

how does Chagaev win? simple, he doesnt.
um someone really needs to introduce him to waxing...i think he'd probobly drop about 15lbs from it and would be a bit faster
That's somewhat true. But what I'm trying to say, is that Valuev is definitely learning with every fight and will not be making the same mistakes in his next one. I doubt Chagaev will even come close to winning.

Did you happen to notice that Johnny slipped one way and Monte the other? The other way is decidedly more dangerous especially when you are throwing wild haymakers instead of a proper rightcross.

He doesn't. Too small, no punch. "IT" may be a freak, but he can box a bit.
"...a bit." might not be enough. There are various ways to hit that giant with a lefthook.

And Chagaev is a better boxer than Barrett.
