WBO hw champ Shannon Briggs will make the mandatory defense of his title against Sultan Ibragimov on June 2nd in Moscow.
Looks like Briggs doesnt want none of Klitschko cause this fight is happening alomst 3 months from now, redicilous
Well a fighter is only good as in his last fight. What? You wanna make his fight two years ago as refference. :D
He was ill prepared? Nah that's not true. You really think Sultan is that stupid to go in an eliminator fight not prepared? He should be smart enough to realize that he needs to win that fight to get to the champ. He's aspiring, so the motivation should be over whelming to prepare for it.
he was 231 lbs for austin,,,,,11 lbs over his normal fighting weight. he was 220 for whitaker and cole. 221 in his last fight with mora. he clearly was out of shape didnt take austin seriously and yes that was very unprofessional of him and it almost cost him a title shot. Im not making any 1 fight a reference and not saying we shouldnt look at his fight with austin,,,,but lets look at all of them and see the differences. he;s a much better fighter at 220 lbs. he did look awful against austin and if he comes into the briggs fight the same way there's a good chance briggs catches him and stops him early,,but I feel he'll come in prepared and survive any early briggs onslaught and stop briggs late. we'll see
same old story. everyone is using nothing but the austin fight to gauge sultan by. he knocked out al cole and lance whitaker who are both better than austin. he was ill prepared and not in shape for austin
lance whitaker straight up quit against sultan when the doctor said he could continue, austin is better than him without a doubt.. al cole-cruiserweight
i dont think 220 pound sultan can take a heavyweight shot, his performance against austin showed his footwork is shoddy and he cant get past a decent jab...
i know sultan is the better fighter, but stylewise briggs is all wrong... sultan needs to exchange to win and fight aggressive... he thrives on being the faster fighter... but briggs, though overblown, has faster hands and will be able to counter sultan IMO.... surely i wouldnt be surprised if sultan won the fight but he is not gonna blow briggs over and KO him early.. but briggs could very easily take sultan out with one good shot, and i cant believe that sultan wont give him ample opprutunity
Be real friend, all Sultan has accomplished is getting a draw with Austin. Yeah that's right, Austin who was run over by Wlad in two rounds, using only his left hand. :D And you were saying? Punch Wlad out into retirement? Let's see if he can punch Briggs into retirement first before you ever dreamed of your boy beating Wlad. :)

Common dude stop making crap excuses for Sultan not looking impressive and not winning against Austin. These fighters are proffesionals, they should be training and in shape through out the year because this is where they earn their money, this is their life.
For these fighters going into their fights not in shape is just an excuse and inadmissible. That applies to all fighters.
I agree. it was ridiculous but its clear sultan is a much better fighter when hes at 220 lbs. watch him against austin where he's over 230,,,,,then watch him in his other fights where he's in shape at 220. hes a much better fighter. I doubt he'll come in heavy for briggs with a title on the line
you dont fear a guy who fought to a draw with ray austin and was dropped by a simple punch
briggs is just a bum and wasnt ready to get in shape yet, pathetic yes, but he will still nail sultan and it will only take one shot
when you've lost to the guys briggs has and have stamina worst than an amatuer you do get afraid,,,,plus Im sure he's seen sultans other fights when he was in shape. you continue to stress just 1 fight with austin in which he was clearly not in shape
What a momentum shift for Ibragimov! He went from a lackluster performance against Ray Austin, to an exciting victory over a journeyman at MSG, and now he'll be fighting in front of a partisan crowd in Moscow to contend for the WBO. Briggs can't be too thrilled about this fight location. However, the money must be the motivating factor here.
Sultan Ibragimov will punch both of them into retirement. Well, if he happens to be in the mood that is. :cop:
He'll need to be in better form than he was against Ray Austin, or he'll not be punching anyone out but himself.

Shannon Briggs is a tempory beltholder and Wladimir Klitschko is just another pampered pussy. Sultan Ibragimov will punch both of them into retirement. Well, if he happens to be in the mood that is. :cop:
briggs pulled out to fight serge becuase he was in limbo as wlads team was trying to get a maskeav unifcation fight
Who else is he going to fight if he was left hanging like that by Finkel and Wlad's team?
He was offered first by Finkel and he quickly accepted. His title shot against Wlad evaporated when Maskaev won his WBC belt which Shelly took advantage of and decided to drop Briggs. They knew Oleg is the easier foe and the easier road to unification. They don't want to risk a potentially disastrous KO loss from Briggs.
Oh yeah, wasn't this fight rumored to be a co-main event with the Vitali-Oleg fight? I sure hope so :boxing:

Ofcourse he has his reason. Being told by Finkel for months that his supposed fight with Wlad is in the bag then all of a sudden he was dropped in favor of a shorter boxer with above average power in his punches (although skilled) in Calvin Brock.

sultan tried to get brock and a couple other top dogs but they declined. if you should be getting on someone it should be briggs. he's the one that backed out. plus why the hell should sultan have fought a tougher guy when he knew he was fighting for a title next? that would be crazy. anyway,,,briggs only chance is to land something big early. sultan is vulnerable to straight rights so thats briggs chance. if briggs doesnt get him out early he loses badly. I like sultan in 7 rounds after a couple rough moments early
It's incredible how Briggs is asking for the respect for being the world champion when he was running his mouth at Wlad's last press conference...

you seem to be one of the guys that are putting too much credence in that austin fight and not seeing his other fights when he's lighter. have you seen him fight when he's in shape? he's a different fighter when he's around 220 lbs,,,,,,,,like a bigger version of jirov. he was wayy too heavy for austin over 230 and it clearly affected his performance. it was idiotic of him to come out of shape but it was what it was. even in good shape sultans defence lacks but he's still a much better fighter than briggs and as long as hes around 220 lbs he'll be too much for briggs. I cant wait for this fight becuase I know some people that are so confident of a briggs win are going to be shocked
I hope John David Jackson prepares Shannon well, it's a good thing he is stopping him from lifting weights and focusing him more on conditioning and he also wants him to throw more punches.

"They aren't showing me the respect you should show a world champion..."
WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs has released the following statement in response to today's press release from mandatory challenger Sultan Ibragimov's camp: "I'm the Heavyweight Champion of the whole world, so it doesn't matter where I defend the title. As for running from Iggy, that's a joke! I'm from Brownsville, never ran and never will! I got nothing against Iggy but he's in way over his head and he's gonna get hurt. I hope this billionaire backer of his set Iggy up with a pension plan because on June 3, he's going to be looking for a new source of income. They aren't showing me the respect you should show a world champion and taking shots at me while I was suffering from pneumonia was classless. Then again Leon and Samson never did have any class." It was announced today that Briggs will defend against Ibragimov on June 2 in Moscow, Russia.
