Yup, that's right, I said it. Junior has reminded me of Tito for a while now and I just watched his fight from last night and it hit me yet again. His style is almost identical to that of the great Puerto Rican champion even though Junior never had an amateur career.
He's growing fast, tho. He weighed in at 151.25 for last night's fight so it might be really hard for him to stay at welterweight long (he started his career at 130 just three and a half years ago).
I give Jr about 2-3 more fights before he steps it up to a known guy. Seeing as he's probably going to be fighting at Welterweight, he might fight someone like Sharmba, Klose, Urkal, Cosme Rivera, or Mark Suarez.
Keep your eye out for this kid.
j jr has potential. i like his style but only lack experience. in the long run he'll become more solid and i think thats what they're planning for him imo though a bit sad to us fight fans to wait longer. but like i said i like his style and accuracy to hit. and hes no trinidad like 4 shu
well i like jcc jr, he's no tito, i don't know where anyone got that idea. but he's destined for greatness, when he starts steppin it up a lil bit. he should fight gomez next, that would be a good match up.
People keep misconstruing the post. I never meant he had the power or record of Tito, only that the way he fights is reminiscent of Trinidad. I'm a huge Tito fan and since the first time I saw this kid he reminded me of Trinidad. I've probably seen all but 3-4 of Tito's fights, many of them more than 10 times, so I know when I see someone who modeled their style after "El Gran Campeon."

JCC Jr. Is no Trinidad. I've seen him train and fight. He stepsa up he gets a loss on his record.
Holy threat revival, Batman!
Don't look at the guy's record, that's not what I meant, look at the guy's style (also remember that Chavez, Jr. didn't have an amateur career). Look at the way that Chavez moves forward, look at his stance, the way he throws the left hook both upstairs and to the body, the way his jab pops out there, and the way his straight right is quick and on the money. All those things remind me of Tito.
Just cuz this kid wears boxing glove, he's tall, skinny and has a Spanish last name does not make him similar to Tito. Come on man, are you serious. This thread is stupid. Tito has a very unique and aggressive style. He's always up on his rear toes and puches with murderous intent with every punch. This kid does not compare or fight like Tito, nuff said.
You either didn't follow Tito's WHOLE career or haven't seen Chavez Jr. fight in his last three fights.

No way, Tito was already taking on tough opposition in his first 18 fights like jake rodriguez and alberto cortes.
can you read ?
Jr did NOT have an amateur career.
Jake Rodriguez ? does his own mother know him ?
Alberto Cortes ? is he the coffee guy ?
I really don't understand all the hate for people who want to fight less than caliber opponents in the beginning of their career.
Boxers in the past gets so much praise for coming out with 250-17 records and lots of fans say that modern boxers will never be as good as past boxers because they don't fight that many fights.... So I don't understand what is wrong with a fighter who wants to add fighters to his name. You think Willie Pep fought A class opponents throughout his whole career? I think not. I commend Chavez Jr. for what he is trying to do. If he were to come out with 120-3 with champion belts then he would be thought of as a great just like the pedestal that boxers of old have.
The title of the thread should have read some like this: Chavez Jnr's Style reminds me a little of Tito.
NOT: Chavez Jnr is the next TITO. With a Thread title like that you're leaving ya self wide open for the counter.
Please give Tito some cred.
You're absolutely right. Tito is my second-favorite fighter of all time, right behind Ricardo "finito" Lopez, and just a smidge ahead of Miguel Cotto. I grew up in Puerto Rico idolizing Tito and I've seen almost every one of his fights, dating back to the four rounders he had in the El San Juan Hotel when he used to fight at 140 pounds.
I remember Tito when he was young like JC Junior and their styles are very similar. Of course, Tito grew into more of a puncher and less of a boxer and he lost some of his defense along the way. Tito used to have great footwork, an awesome jab, and a severly underrated defense. He fell in love with his power, tho, and tended to drop his hands a bit too much and not to move side-to-side as much as he did in the earlier days.
Junior has a left hook with authority, just like Tito had. When Tito was 20, he had already been a pro for 3 years and had plenty of amateur experience. Junior had no amateur experience so I cut him a little slack there.
he's a fey(meximerican) boy that is making money living on his daddys name.
he's beat lined up tomatoe can club fighters. this guy is sick, diseased mentally, less than a lacky.

I dont think so, I think tito was more tentative in his style and in a way was more like a sniper, patiently waiting setting up to land the big shot that would put his opponents in trouble.
Jnr looks more like constantly working.
P.S. he looked cut up and more solid and better balanced in his last fight. He even backed up and used the jab a few times.
I like the Kid, I like his style and he's fun to watch. He'll step up when he's ready. I think the kid has a bright future ahead of him.
There will always be Haters, especially when it comes to Chavez Sr and Jr.
I'm not saying that he's as good as Tito, I'm just saying that his STYLE is very similar to that of Trinidad's. He throws the left hook almost identical to Tito's and his right hand over the top looks better and better every fight I see him in.
He won't be fighting a contender for about another year, probably, which, at his pace, is about 4-5 fights, but he'll fight some recognized fighters in 3 fights, I'm sure of it. Bob Arum is trying to move the kid along now and I think he's tired of just seeing him fight guys from Cleveland and Minnessota.
I saw JCC Jr on versus late one night and he looked pretty good, but he was up against a soft opponent. I want to see him up against Mike Alvarado a home state favorite of mine. Mike beat the guy JCC Jr had a draw with. I hope they fight soon.
Nahhh, I dont think he will be that good. He will probably end up as a gatekeeper type of fighter, or a lesser champion like Lovemore Ndou. I have watched him fight, and I just dont see "IT".
