Needless to say, I found this very interesting. Cottos taken a lot of heat based on his opponents (not without merit), but he is stepping up starting with Judah and this may put things in perspective. The only significant difference I see is the 3 year difference in age between the two after 29 fights.
dont get me wrong i like both fighters, there both great. reason being that trinidad came better espically with fighters is because they brought him up fast, makin him fight big fights makin big money, and thats all because of his promoter don king. look at cotto and his promoter he comin along slow but also gettin his experience, not caring for money only caring for the game. but in the end i do choose trinidad.
I agree but take Yori Boy - no 1 had a fuckin clue who he was, just an undeafeated banger who had fought nobodys. He is simalar to Torres in that respect! Plus we dont know how well Cottos oppenents will do in futre like Paulie and Quintana, but yeah Tito's were better as far as i can tell
Either way Tito would have smashed Cotto had the fought say when they both had 29 fights under their belts.
Very true, also doesn't say how many current champs Tito beat and how many has Cotto beaten.
True, Cotto's notables are not as good as any of Tito's notables. Also, Cotto had the layoffs due to his car accident and subsequent surgery on his right shoulder (I believe he had 3 surgeries). That also made him come along a bit slower since he was basically fighting with one arm.
If you look at Cotto's early career, all you'll see is left hands. It wasn't until the Victoriano Sosa fight that I saw him start to land the right with respectable power. It wasn't until Kelson Pinto that I saw him actually knock someone down with it.

Uh thats a pretty big fucking differance. Tito turned pro when he was 17 for Christ sakes while Cotto had that great mature carrer and went to the Olympics.
I thinks its funny how you include some of those guys in Cotto's notible win catagory. Man Oba Car and Yori Boy Campas were 10x better in the early 90's than anyone Cotto has faced and its not even up for debate.
i still think trinidad would beat cotto today
trinidad cant handle boxers who move
i think cotto would walk foward and be countered
all day by right hands and left hooks
that fight would look like vargas fight
Ive always stated Cotto has been brought along Perfectly! Now he is stepping it up starting with Zab!
Very simalair records, Tito would hand him his ass tho!
Wow, that is damn impressive. So funny because I remember some commentators (was it the HBO guys this weekend?) saying Cotto was being protected and brought along slowly
