How did MAnfredo get a shot at Joe-C??? easy, he's another hand picked opponent by frank warren for calzaghe, yet another fighter for joe that isnt ready to be fighting joe, manfredo is just another young fighter that isnt ready for that level of competition. and as for the whole manfredo's is popular, that's bullshit, his main and damn near only fame is up in providence rhode island where he's from and he has minimal popularity throughout the states because of The Contender. and if you ask ANY casual fan in boxing " who is Peter Manfredo Jr? " the wouldn't be able to tell you. so that publicity stunt thingy for Joe Calzaghe is crap, it's just another underdog fighter that Joe is fighting. i really hope that manfredo upsets calzaghe, i really really do..............

Nobody outside of the US cares where the American fighters fight within the US. absolutely.

Noone outside the UK cares if he fights in Wales or somewhere else in the UK, just as we don't care if a german fights in Berlin or in Bavaria. It's all good and fine the you have this little inter rivalry between the different parts of the UK. But it's the same everywhere and we don't give a feck. It's all very practical i guess. If you're English and someone from Wales or whereever does something good he's a jolly good british chap and you wave the union jack. Calzaghe is fucking Welsh. He has therefore fought outside England numerous times and has fought outside the UK twice. Joe Calzaghe's problem has been that all of the Americans whined about him not fighting top opposition, so he went out of his way to fucking rape the best yank fighter in his division, and even after that he still doesn't get the respect he deserves. No doubt if he beat up on Mikkel Kessler people would find someone else who he should fight before he has proven himself.

To be fair the likes of Hopkins haven't really wanted to fight Joe either. The US hasn't exactly been a dominant force in the 168 lb division either, so there haven't been too many US opponents for him to fight. Fuck the US then, why not fight Froch? if someone calls you out that much, i mean he rips joe every chance he gets why not get in the ring and try and smash him? and back to the US, if there is no1 in your divions and your gettin called all this stuff about not fightin the best fighters etc etc why not move down or up a weight! Personally i'd have preferred to see Calzaghe - Froch, rather than Calzaghe - Manfredo, but a fight with Froch wouldn't gain Calzaghe the recognition in the States that he is looking for. Someone mentioned to me that Froch needs to compete against a better level of opponent before calling out Calzaghe, but IMO he would pose a bigger threat to Calzaghe than Manfredo will.

Calzaghe has over 40 fights without a loss he should be fighting the best of the best right now. If he would have fought outside of England he might be fighting the big names now or not because he might have lost earlier. Calzaghe is fucking Welsh. He's looking for a bigger fighter now. They just happen to be looking the other way. Calzaghe is hoping that this fight might turn their heads. Or at least the networks and the promoters who just see dollar signs.

Manfredo is popular in America and Ole Cal is trying to become popular here.......to the general public Manfredo is great so when Cal beats him they will think Oh my look at that bad ass, sexy sheep shagger........ Brilliant!!! It's obvious that the fight was made to gain more recognition for Calzaghe in the States. However, i believe it is a mismatch, no matter how highly Manfredo is rated in America, and Calzaghe should be looking at the likes of Kessler, Tarver, or maybe Hopkins... That said, i'm sure he'll be looking for a bigger fight next, and i'm sure he'll dispose of Manfredo quite easily.
