Cotto with a pathetic win..and a boring ass fight.

I think Urkal made it a boring fight eventhough Cotto was far from his best. IMO Urkal should've never deserved a championship fight, he's a bum, and a bum without heart. The best asset Urkal has is his chin, that's it, whenever Cotto turned it on he would clinch or head butt and was crying over there about shots behind his back. NO HEART period. well he fought his way to get the spot. another thing Cotto is lucky that Urkal is not a has power or he would have been in trouble even though he is trying to show he got good chin but he is getting exposed on how he is getting hit. and i think Urkal is old and his way off his prime taking a fight with Cotto in his coutry is enough said about him

I think Zab stops cotto to be honest. It should be a war down the stretch though Zab and the word war don't go together. Mickey Ward Vs Gatti is a war.

Cotto fought well, dominated virtually every round and had to put up with a very dirty opponent. I can't see too much he did wrong there. It's pretty poor form when a fighter who wins a fight clearly and comperehensively without running and who presses for a knockout from start to finish is criticised for his efforts. Cotto doesn't suck, he's a magnificent fighter.

i didn't find this fight so boring. the end was ugly. maybe some people are hating on cotto because he didn't destroy urkal. but hey, urkal is a tough guy. somebody told me larry merchant said that urkal didn't want to fight and only came for a payday, i didn't saw that.

I'm not taking anything away from Urkal. He came in there to fight and he did. He was getting bombed by Cotto from all sides and he galantly took it. But the open scoring really affected the fight. Some of the rounds were hardly fought rounds so if Urkal's corner doesn't know the actual scores I'm sure they won't throw out the towel. It's just logical because they won't risk further pain or injury to their fighter for a "loss cause". I'm not taking anything away from him either, he showed a good amount of heart. Nah nah nah people saying that are PATHETIC HATERS. :D That was a good fight. It's not exciting because the scores were announced every four rounds, that's all in it. And Urkal's corner knowing that they have no chance to win the fight threw in the towel preventing the K.O. in the remaining rounds. I couldn't believe all the shit HBO was saying about open scoring and the fight ending. Urkal was getting hit with good shots, both to the body and the head. I'm surprised he stood for a lot of them, I think he showed heart and he wasn't in it for just a payday. Plus, I don't think throwing in the towel was a mistake. He just couldn't win the fight, and we didn't need open scoring to do that. Maybe if the fight was in Germany...but then again they probably wouldn't have let him throw in the towel. He wasn't gonna win, its not like he was known for his power and still couldn have pulled a KO out of nowhere. He didn't have a realistic shot at winning and throwing in the towel was justified.

people start to hate on oktay urkal, because he give he made cotto look bad. i can't blame urkal for being tough, even if this made an ugly fight. i'm sure urkal would give a tough fight to hatton at welterweight, (it would look like hatton/collazo)

I honestly did not see the Cotto that usually shows up, and I thought that he looked kind of soft.... softer than he usually looks. I wouldn't imagine that Cotto undertrained for this fight, but it appears as this was the case. On the other hand I do not take anything away from Urkal, besides the ugly headbutts, he was prepared and took ALOT of punishment. Cotto also showed immaturity in the frustration that he had with the headbutts and cut. Hopefully he learns from this fight and improves.
