Even though it was only seven rounds, I think its FOTY material. Both fighters came out swinging in every round. Marquez buckled Vasquez in the first and third, then right away Vasquez comes back and knocks Marquez down. Vasquez controls the fourth and Marquez controls the fifth, though they both hurt each other and exchanged furious punches, with a furious exchange to close the fifth. The sixth and seventh non stop action. Toe to toe trading to close the seventh. A war. Then Vasquez with his very gruesome nose claims to not be able to breath and quits. Both fighters want a rematch.
This fight was awesome,
sometimes i feel like someone has to go check Raphael's gloves and make sure he isnt carrying a roll of pennies, cement, some led, or something. Marquez busted Israel up in really no time it was crazy how those punches were sounding and the amount of damage they were creating.
I think the abrupt ending took away from what was still a very entertaining bout. It was headed into Barerra/Morales territory. Fightnews says they are already trying to make a deal for August.
For those of you who live on the south west coast California, Vazques v.s Marquez will be shown on XEWT Tijuana channel a very public channel, Incredibly on today Saturday at 10:30 p.m. :boxing:
I hope they have a rematch. I still wouldn't care who wins, as long as its a hard fought war. I know a guy who trains with Israel and i'm going to ask him to ask Israel why he quit. Though I know he couldn't breath, a mexican is never supposed to quit, no matter what.QUOTE]
There is another BS. Israel is there to fight and at the same time - TO MAKE A LIVING. He is not in the military. You're there to try to win and not die. He showed heart at the end of the 5th round after he momentarily turned his back for whatever it was. He fought back started throwing wildly. He knew he had little chance, so why risk it more. Save it for next time.

DAMN. I don't even have Showtime and had to order it just to see the fight.
How big is Rafa. He looked kinda big . Anyway, good fight. Though I was rooting for Israel.
Either of these guys will rule 122 for a while.
Tell him this.
That if he gets showtime for a day, and then cancels, itll cost him only 87cents!!!!
Good deal I will, when they have another good fight that way he has to say yes.
Man I really need to convince my dad to get showtime I new this was gonna be a war. Someone gonna need to up this fight.

I think it's kinda b.s. for Vasquez to want a rematch. I mean, if he really wanted to fight he could've continued. LOTS of fighters throughout history have continued in fights with broken noses. I just think he could've continued is all but he sure as hell shouldn't be clamoring for a rematch since he quit on his stool in this fight.
not just a broken nose, but he couldn't breath. You could hear it in his voice too, there definitely needs to be a rematch and i cant understand why anyone wouldn't want to see these 2 guys go at it at 100% unless they were marquez followers who didnt think he could win a rematch.
Let's hope it doesn't end up as one of the fight of the year candidates. Based on the how it ended, I hope we get some 12-round close encounters or definitive knockouts in major bouts.
If the rematch is similar to this, then I hope to god it gets FOTY. They would deserve it if they go at it again.
That was some kind of action.

Yeah it was definitely an amazing fight while it lasted. Both bombing at each other, nonstop action. Too bad it ended short. It was getting better and better throughout each round. Shit it kicked off with a bang in that 2nd or 3rd round where Vasquez dropped Marquez at the end of a round he was losing.
