Boxrec is one of the best things that's come into boxing. With the
click of a mouse and your keyboard you have access to all fighters
records. Matchmakers, managers, promoters and everyone involved
in putting cards together use it. It saves a lot of time trying to get
useful information. If there's a fw mistakes the guys there are quick to make corrections. I commend them on the outstanding job and service
they provide.:boxing:
james toney at 5'11''.
haha that's totally ridiculous, That's three inches taller than his actual height.
I'm so sick of people inflating that statistic in the U.S.A. Why? no other country falsely lists people's heights. The damn NBA is notorious for that.
Reggie Miller got into trouble for saying Tony Parker wasn't 6'3 on air.....and that he's more like 6'0 or 6'1 if generous....which is true, because I met him in person and he's shorter than I am at 6'2.

Case and point.
Look at Roman Karmazin's record.
Do you see the 3 knockdowns listed under the Ouma fight? Nope.

Ironic that this thread was started today, cuz I found this on another site:
Which one is Marian Cazacu?
Where was the Romanian boxer on Feb. 24th….
Indeed, this is the question we all ask. The Romanian Marian Cazacu was reported in Boxrec to have boxed on Feb. 24th in Reims, France against Ali Oubaali. He lost that fight by KO in round 3. After some investigation that fight was confirmed by the French newspaper L’Equipe and a regional newspaper from Reims. And if you follow this link you can see picture on the French website Netboxe.
So far nothing unusual until a Belgian editor of Boxrec wanted to insert the results from the show held in Herstal, Belgium where Hervé De Luca drew with… Yes, that very same Romanian Marian Cazacu. When this Belgian Board official inquired to the local LFB officials they (also) confirmed that they checked all the boxers documents, included his passport.
Or Marian Cazacu had his private jet to come from Reims to Herstal in a few hours or somewhere another boxer took his place and fought instead of the Romanian. Or worse… the Romanian was at home in his sofa waiting for his 2 results in Herstal and Reims!
So there can be discrepencies, but in this case, it is not the fault of boxrec, as the information is submitted by editors of the site who usually attend or confirm fights locally. In fact, it has helped open an investigation into the matter by 'the powers that be' to find out if any wrongdoing has been commited.
Besides the rankings, I believe the older the records are the more incomplete they are. But thats understandable with the older fighters.
They also put up rumored fights as upcoming bouts that sometimes don't happen.
I hate when they do that! They'll have a guy scheduled to face three opponents in the same month. They jump on any little rumor.
is it really fucked up? im meaning like the fighter records and shit? what sort of things are messed up on it?
Nah, Boxrec is a blessing, especially for fight historians. I dont think I've ever come across a statistical error. Like others have said here before, the rankings are BS and while I like the projected opponents part, usually they are wrong about those too. For example, Gil Reyes, a guy who I've been following since I met and trained under a few years ago, has been scheduled to fight Vernon Forrest 3x, Zab Judah, Delvin Rodriguez 3X among others and none of them have been true. In fact, I just wrote to the guy to finally find out who he is fighting next.

Anyway, it's the best thing we have out there and I can't see anyone else making a better database.
i love that site, have learnt a lot from there.
if it has inaccurate information sometimes, well thats reasonable because of the big amount of data that its in there.
personally i like the rankings system. because of all those belts out there its very difficult to make a system that satisfies everyone, but well, worst is nothing :P
I'v found the actual records to be accurate, but you can't make conclusions about a fighter by looking at their KOs against as mentioned above.
benny leonard actually had 121 no decisions, those extra wins on his record are based on the opinion's of writers as to who won the fight. If you want to go by that standard, then pernell whitaker is 42-4 cuz he originally beat andrie pestriav and he won the "draw" against chavez.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in Benny Leonard's era fights which didn't end in a knockout were always officially called draws, but an "official unofficial" result for the gambling community came from an agreement from press row. So by the standard of the day those no-contests were in fact wins for Benny. By the time Sweet Pea suffered his injustices there was a judging system in place.
i know and ex fighter, that says he had 15 fights.. yet boxrec shows just 7
boxrec calls bullshit on a lot of fighters bloated records ( as introduced in the ring) moreso back in the ol' days
boxrec will list the correct record (alleged) and usually have a notation such as "Jones was introduced as being 27-3"
Fighters record are quite accurate as far as I can tell.....the only fucked up thing on boxrec is their computerized ranking system.
They also have the small confusing RTD and TKO in some older fights.
Its innacurate in regards to naming a fighers next opponent before it is actully official.
You will oftentimes see 2 or 3 fighters interchanged before it becomes official.
is it really fucked up? im meaning like the fighter records and shit? what sort of things are messed up on it?
do you kiss your mother with those lips? :grumble:
They don't list all knockdowns in fights, and losses are deceiving.
I'm so sick of stupid assholes saying JLC was knocked out 4 times by punches and that his chin is glass. Fucking morons.....all of those losses were from cuts and they just see "TKO" and assume things.
There are still fights where a fighter has been floored repeatedly and they have yet to list that underneath the fight.
I only look at boxrec to check an upcoming fight, someone's reach, or where they were born. I don't Parody my way through things.
Yeah they should say why it was a TKO......I agree. Also someone said they have inaccurate schedules which is also very true....they put the next opponent sometimes based on here say.

something like boxrec is so big and detailed that there are bound to be mistakes...just comes with the territory...however it's one of the best things we've got in this sport

The records are correct, sometimes they get the outcome wrong slightly, IE the scorecards are sometimes mixed up, their rankings are terrible though - that's what's innacurate.
Its all we have.. and its pretty good.. Its 99.9% accurate
Like Shanus says.. I dont care what scinetifc formula they say they use.. their rankings are CRAP..
is it really fucked up? im meaning like the fighter records and shit? what sort of things are messed up on it?
its not fucked up at all
in fact id like to say "god bless boxrec"
it is a wonderful database, ive never found an inaccuracy on anyones record
the only thing people critize it for are its statistical formulas for ranking fighter.... which is a dumb criticism since everyone has thei own opinion about it and would never completely agree with boxrec anyhow...
it also lists prospective matches before they are actually signed, which other people dont like, but i love....
for instance:
boxrec has chris byrd scheduled to fight paul maranacchio (22-2) in nassau bahamas on april 18th
which means boxrec and i are the only two people around who know about byrds next opponent
