Folks
Is there any way this Mayweather - De La Hoya could be one huge letdown. How many times has a fight been hammed up to be the greatest ever, and then it's turned out to be nothing short of an average fight.
I've not seen as much hype about a fight since Hagler - Hearns (obviously that one hit the spot in terms of entertainment), I just have a sneaky feeling we might be disappointed.
Just a gut feeling.
I hope we're not.

Watched DLH vs Whitaker again the other day to see how DLH dealt with a speedy defensively slick style and was pretty impressed by how Oscar dealt with whitaker. DLH is quite a bit stronger now, fights standing straight up instead of bending so much and has developed his right into a much better weapon plus removing the southpaw variable out of the comparison will really make this fight interesting. Neither guy works much on the inside so whoever takes the initiative there could reap some benefits. I think this fight will have a lot more action than most think.
It'll be disappointing if after a few rounds DLH can't figure out PBF's defense and offense as in: PBF vs Corrales.
Then, alot of people will start to walk out of the MGM Grand in the middle rounds as in: PBF vs Baldomir.
But, who's to say what the heck'll happen?
I'ts all just speculation until fight night. Right? :boxing:
Mayweather makes an entertaining fight when he has his way=Gatti. Gatti didn't try to mount any attack so Mayweather wasn't scared to pick him apart. A fighter shows little resistance(Baldy), and he prefers to hit and run. This is what's going to happen against Oscar, no doubt.
that's right i pretty mmuch agree,

Well, if Mayweather and DLH keep their promises of a TOE-to-TOE battle, and DLH keeps his word of fighting dirty, no, it won't be a letdown.
But the fact of the matter is, Mayweather doesnt know how to fight toe-to-toe. It not his style.
BUT, i do think this will be a great fight. A really good fight. Nothing FOTY like...
...but a Leonard-Hagler type fight. Maybe even a bit better
Yeah hopefully they keep their word.

Mayweather doesn't know how to fight toe to toe?
Mayweather vs Augustus
Mayweather vs N'dou
Mayweather vs Carlos Hernandez
Mayweather vs Genero Hernandez
Mayweather vs Jesus Chavez
Mayweather vs Corley
and some rounds of Mayweather vs Judah
Oscar is going to make it a war....he has enough will & heart added to his skills to do it....if he knows he's losing, he'll turn it up a notch......as for Floyd, he's just going to find pot shots like he always does...

It'll be a chess match. The only hope is that Oscar comes forward throwing bombs all night to try and bully the smaller man. I actually think this is his best chance, and I think he would win if he did this. This is certainly what he is saying he's gonna do, but whether he does it? Who knows.
You could be correct. For the fight to go Mayweather's way then the fight must be a dry, technical one. Mayweather shows no inclination to go to the trenches with smaller, less able opponents so I can't see him backing up his words this time as opposed to every other time.
Floyd will flurry, jab and move for twelve rounds if possible.
DeLaHoya will change pace to lure Mayweather and try and catch him.
It will be cat and mouse and the fight will be a little dull if the mouse has his way.
Don't get me wrong, Floyd has no other option than to play that way otherwize he'll find himself on his ass or back. As stated in a thousand other threads, I just wish he didn't bullshit about demolishing opponents.
