Ricardo Mayorga (28-6)
Fernando Vargas (26-4)
I am extatic that Mayorga has decided to fight Vargas. I think Mayorga will come more prepared for Vargas than he did against De la Hoya. I think he will stop Vargas with a late TKO. I can't believe this fight is happening, what do you think will happen?
Found this on another site:
Vargas-Mayorga shaping up!
It looks like the tantalizing clash between Fernando Vargas vs Ricardo Mayorga will land in Southern California on a June date to be determined. According to the Ventura County Star, the Honda Center in Anaheim is a possibility. It was also revealed that the fight will be at 162 pounds. "It's not for money. ... It's not for belts. I'm looking to make this fight for one reason and one reason only — for pride," Vargas is quoted as saying.
Maybe he was paid to help promote. If Ricardo can do anything its sell. I dont know if it was you but i read on the other form he is in good shape. Maybe he is takin the vargas fight seriously.
Yeah, that was me. Last time I saw him was right after they announced his fight against De La Hoya. He was smoking away and physically, looked a little soft. Today, he looked tall, square and solid. When I shook his hand, it was like a rock, and I have been told I have a pretty solid handshake. While the fight hasnt been signed, he definately has been training well.

LOL. how did the crowd react?
The crowd was supporting Mayorga, however, there are lots of Nicaraguans who live down here (my fiance being one of them). He never took the podium, but did go on stage to shake hands with Oscar and Floyd. You can see my pics on the Miami presser thread.
Oscar thanked his mexican, puertorican, dominican and nicaraguan fans, and when he mention nica fans, he laughed and pointed at Mayorga, who laughed with him. Mayorga was swamped with fans asking for pics and autographs and he obliged everyone. Was in a real good mood.
I asked Mayorga at the Mayweather-De La Hoya conference about the Vargas fight. He says they HAVE NOT signed the contracts yet and they are waiting on Vargas' camp to make a decision. Someone asked him what round he would knock him out in and in his usual Mayorga way, he said Vargas would be too scared to come out at the bell.

Couldnt agree more! Shame the Tito fight came so early, El Feroz could have been Special! I mean look what he did to Campus, QAURTEY and WINKY so early in his career!
Note: Even if u thought Wink won (I didnt do a running score and have only seen it once) Then u must admit Vargas held his own with a Master craftsman really early on in his career!
#1, without any bias whatsoever - I have to say I think you may be one of the best posters in NSB hands down. I don't think you've ever exaggerated, or carried any misconceptions. This is again - brilliant insight.
:hail:
There you have it.
I've said it before - I'll say it again.
Vargas has been SHOT for several fights now..
Anybody who is a Vargas fan go back prior to Tito, and then Oscar.
But if you're a fan I'm sure you're already well aware..
Vargas suffered some kind of motor skills damage after these fights.
The difference is HIGHLY apparent.

Trinidad happened to him.

Man, I wouldn't have thought that Vargas was only 29 years old. 29 years old and he's shot the way he is? What happened to him? I had heard that he had some type of back injury but I don't know the specifics.
Showtime already stated that they wont go head to head with the DLH/PBF fight because its too important for boxing. So May 5 is false.
Yes!. I hope this is true.
i think if vargas is going to continue to fight he should consider regaining his confidence again, if he gets in the ring with mayorga and loses he should most def. retire

Their is no way their fighting on March 5th. Thats like in 3 weeks. I just read on B-talk that Mayorga has some court dates to deal with before anything. Then he plans on moving back down to welter. He also said he wants to fight vargas but thier hasnt been any contact that either liked.
... thats a mistake its may 5th the same day as pbf/dlh
I just wanted to bump this up with some facts to share.
I think this fight will be good, if you look at their records:
Mayorga has lost to both Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya
Vargas has also lost to Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya
They both lost by tko's in both their bouts with both fighters.
Both fighters are coming off of a loss: Vargas to Mosley, Mayorga to DLH
Ricardo Mayorga is 33 with a record of: 28-6-1, with 23 KO's
Fernando Vargas is 29 with a record of: 26-4, with 22 KO's
Ricardo Mayorga is: 5'9 with a 69" Reach
Fernando Vargas is: 5'10 with a 74" Reach
Both are Orthodox fighters.
Is that what they are listing Mayorga as, 5'9? I've met him and he seems about an inch shorter than that. Close enough, I guess.
Vargas is an OLD 29.
3 weeks? lol this fight has been agreed upon in principle since last year.
Wrong. So is that why everything is set? No, nothing is even close to being done in this fight.:nonono:

may 5th? will this be on the undercard of the floyd fight? or what? This wouldn't be a undercard HBO PPV, this bout will be the main event of SHO's Championship Boxing. This will be head 2 head match up... HBO will be PPV and SHO will be free to its subscribers.
