He said it again last night when Lampley interviewed him after Mosley vs. Collazo.
Alot of fans and media have dismissed him, and we know he listens.. :boxing:
He said again May 5th will be his last fight.
Ricky Hatton
I dont think that he will retire. I know that he has continally said he will, but then so did Bernard Hopkins, and I dont think he ever really retired in his mind.
Are we talking about here?... Overall it's Floyd by far.
Ricky gets a pass in England right? Certain places ect.?...
Floyd gets skewered worldwide.
He's says stupid shit, but I don't follow this sport for the antics.
I can't think of another fighter who has more people on his ass.

He had his opportunity to take one step toward taking back his statement last night.
Instead he took the opportunity to reinforce his promise to retire.
(I see we're getting votes that says he will contradict himself.)
What's that based on? Does he have a history of breaking his word?
Or are we supplanting Bernard Hopkins and Michael Jordan onto a totally different individual?
I'm saying he's stubborn as fuck and will retire on some level for some period.
Let's roll this back. Here's when. It's the same now.
I wish I had made this poll public.. :banghead:
He wont retire because DLH will beat his ass and force him to look for a rematch, which I can only hope is not given to him. But Heres your supporting arguement for why he will retire. ?Its obvious the guy is delusional. He has stated time and time again that he is the goat and he wants to go out on top. Everyone around him except his egomaniacal father is a complete and udder yes man, and wont offer him a reason not to retire.
This is a ploy, a sham. An attempt for attention. Even if he retires he will be back because in the back of his head he knows if he truly wants to establish a legacy he has to do far more. The only way he retires for real is if his hands are far worse than we think and if that is the case May 5 will be a bad day for him Win lose or draw.
That's interesting. I guess we'll ignore every single one of the 50 odd promises he's made to retire since the Baldomir post fight.. His tune has not changed.
I don't care if a fighter runs his mouth. Doesn't bother me.
I have no real preference for or interest in the soap opera nonsense that happens outside the ring.
Maybe he's become weary of being derided and devalued..
I can't think of another fighter who has more people on his ass.
I'd be sick of that too.
As recently as TODAY Floyd has reaffirmed his intention to retire.
Several times in fact..
Right here to the BoxingScene team.

Again.
I've been saying all along that this is serious.
I like this sport, so I know how fucked it will be if he walks out before he settles a few arguments for us by fighting guys like Hatton, Cotto, and whoever.

more like top5 All time worst posts are you fuckin kid me! Duran would eat Floyd's heart for breakfast. Dont even try to justify that!
On one hand I hope he does retire, Im fuckin sick of havin to be barraged with all this garbage about him, so many people on his nuts but the guy is a straight up asshole so full of himself you just cant really like him from his comments. If only he walked the talk. On the other hand, I keep hoping he will give us some great fights and finally back up all the talk. It seems like he quickly realized he had impressed everyone with an amazing show of skills and potential and it was time to cash in and cash out.By the way, he did this against a few really good fighters, a majority of good fighters, a couple of has beens and a journeyman made cinderella man. Im disappointed and tired of this clown what a waste of all those skills.

cant really see him retiring either way and please god for boxings sake he dont cos he's the best.also i never understand the way people say pbf wouldnt of holding his own with the likes of srl, duran and hagler can anyone onhestly say he not as good if not better boxer then them......my two cents
I think that if he looses he will want a rematch, with DLH. Then he will realize that he has to fight Cotto, Mosley, and Hatton and win in very convincing fashion to be able to regain his spotlight of the best P4P fighter in the world.
Why?
Because money talks. Because people are addicted to money, especially when they have had it before. Because money=power.
Mayweather will feel the need to make more money in the future guarenteed. Especially when he flaunts his money around so much, you can tell he loves it.
That's not a fully complete response to what I stated.
"Money" is the simple answer, and I think it's a pretty good one.
Mayweather hasn't earned 200M like DLH supposedly has.. That's for sure.
PBF is not close to Duran yet.
Duran faced and beat SRL.
Who is PBF's SRL? Seriously.
Duran chose to fight people who he should never have been in the ring with.
Duran had HUGE HAIRY TESTICLES and PBF while slick and talented has not faced the level of challenges that other top P4Pers have.
He could get in the mix for top ten as DLH is a step in the right direction but it is nowhere near the culmination of a stellar career. If he doesn't stretch himself against some of the bigger challenges after DLH he won't make it IMO.
I don't care about the zero. Valuev has a zero. I don't care if he wins or loses. He just has to fight more matches as potentially challenging as DLH could be.
Why is it that nobody has an intellectual argument for his "non-retirement."
Let's have some supporting facts, and dot connecting..
Why would he go back on his word - because other fighters do?
Why won't he walk away? Why?
The money, spotlight, and thrill are reasons - but that didn't stop Hagler.
That didn't stop BARRY SANDERS.
