Don't get me wrong, I'm actually a Mosley fan which the only other boxer I could say I'm a fan of is Winky. But...
I really don't understand how you could bitch at Hatton's clinching but not complain about Mosley. Mosley is like the master clincher. Everytime he would come in and clinch, he would hold Collazo's arms by his side to lift them up in the air. He did a great job at it but you could see on Collazo's face that he didn't understand why he wasn't being warned about it. He also did it a LOT. I would say he probably did it as many times as Hatton did it because he clinched from round 1.
I didn't mind it... But I also didn't really mind Hatton's clinching except in the later rounds (round 9-12.. He just didn't do much after he clinching in these rounds).
Do you believe Mosley should have been warned and maybe a point taken away?
Mosley clinches, but pushes off and keeps punching and slipping....he doesn't hug/molest his opponents...Hatton throws one punch and hugs like he hasn't seen his child in 10 years
Thats a big ole Lennox Lewis "defintely" my man! This is why I think if he tries to pull this shit with Castillo he will get crushed. Clinching is an invitation to throw uppercuts and body shots for castillo. He better get in and get out or he'll get KO'd

I have 97 times where the ref had to break up the Hatton fight.
I also have 94 times where Hatton purposely tried to clinch. (Urango did a tiny bit of clinching too)
I have 70 times where the ref had to break up the Mosley fight
I also have 58 times where Mosley purposely tried to clinch.
SO there we go... It is a 27 number difference but my thought that Mosley did clinch a lot is true. It is not close enough to compare the fight to Hatton's though.
Thats 6 times per round... Not 2 like Sin said.
I guess it didn't seem like that much cause it was thoughout the fight, Hatton was clinching mostly in the second half of the fight which made it seem like alot more, & i think it would be more like 36, cause it was 58 attempted clinches for Mosley against 94 for Hatton.
I'll get you all proof because you guys are just blind to it because Mosley is respected.
Yes he clinched a bit and he was warned at least once I think more, didnt see it as that big of a deal tho cause many times Collazo would still wing punches
AFter watching the Hatton fight again and having the Mosley fight fresh... I do see where Hatton clinching sooo much.
I guess I was watching the Hatton fight in the beginning rounds and not being annoyed by clinches.
Congrats man, great to see someone go back and review video and re-evaluate there positions. K for you.

No way did mosely come anywhere close to clinching like Hatton does
no chance..
Hatton does it to spoil the action and to prevent himself getting knocked out
Mosely uses it to his gameplan and throws shots in and out of clinches
Exactly.....and in other countries clinching isnt that big of a deal.

Yeah the second half of that fight Hatton went ridiculous with the clinching.

First off I didn't really see excessive holding at all let alone anywhere near the level of clinching that Hatton has done of late.
Secondly AllEyesOpen I actually think that Mosley was trying to go for a KD in one of the later rounds when he tagged Collazo with a few excellent shots but then saw that Collazo wasn't going anywhere and decided to not blow his load and fight for the decision.
I know he was throwing some hard shots & combinations in those later rounds, but it just seemed to me when he landed a good hard combination that could have led to something(kd, stoppage), Mosley would clinch, which to me seemed counter-productive seeing that he had Collazo stunned a few times, that just how I saw it.

i dont get all this HATTON-URANGO stuff. After round 6, yes, there was a TON of clinching and it was rediculous and boring.
But in the first 5 rounds the clinching was fine and very entertaining. Hatton hit during the clinch, free'd him self from the clinches, and they were fast and he'd come right back in with more combinations.
Those first five rounds were solid entertainment.
But after that, i agree with everyone. It was horrendous. And even as a hatton fan i wish he would get warned and get it through his head that that stuff isnt entertaining.
Hopefully he'll come in, in better shape, against Castillo. That would make the fight a war
I always enjoy your posts kball. You think the same things about fights as me a lot.
Except Wright being able to knock someone out. I disagree with that. ^_^
i don't think his clinching was anywhere near as bad as Hatton, but it seemed counter-productive considering that he was doing very well, Collazo was complaining a lot but it really wasn't that much clinching, & close to the end of the fight Collazo should have been grateful cause he looked exhausted, I don't know why Mosley didn't go in for the KO. Honestly I was impressed at how he beat a southpaw without doing what's generally considered what you need to do to beat one.

I cant believe were actually discussing how much Mosely clinched its
crazy...
Hatton clinched constantly straight outta the school of John Ruiz
BTW I never disagreed that Hatton clinched a lot... I hated how much he clinched in the later rounds.
But when I was watching Mosley fight I felt like he was clinching a lot too.

As I'm watching the HAtton/Urango fight... I stand correct about clinching being a lot less in the beginning rounds. The ref has to break them a lot rounds 1-9 too.
Still counting numbers.
There was excessive hugging in the later rounds, but it wasn't just on Mosley's part.
it WAS just on mosleys part though. He would hug and then raise his arms to make it look like it was collazo.
Every round collazo would go back to his corner and complain about the holding. every round.
it wasnt him holding, it was mosley throughout the fight
