Im very casual boxing fan but a huge MMA fan, I just read this interview on yahoo sports.
http://sports.yahoo.com/box
Floyed tells the camera man who is wearing a UFC T-shirt that boxing is a art and the UFC is a fad. Just want to get some boxing fans opinion on this.
In my opinion, Floyed comes off sounding like a idiot. Considering that MMA uses discplines like judo, BJJ, Muay Thai that have been around for many many years. I say that Floyd stops calling himself a figher and calls himself a boxer. Cause thats what he is and in a real fight he wouldnt last a minute with MMA fighter (fighter being the key word)
UFC sucks, end of story. Last time I checked this was a boxing forum. This forum is titled "Non Stop Boxing" for a reason. Why is UFC being discussed here? Why don't you go to that other site where UFC and mixed martial arts is discussed.
UFC and PRIDE is somewhat sissy many top flight fights end by tapping out. When a major boxing star quits it is covered up or the fighter will always be disrespected ala Duran,Friteas, Golata
Hahaha..... wow,.... I mean wow. I guess people this dumb DO exist!
Give me 60 seconds with this tard and I'll teach the bitch what true pain is.
Do you really think that these guys enjoy tapping out? Do you think they come into a fight and say, "hmmm, if he grabs my arm too rough I'm going to quit."? These guys don't tap out unless they have to. Ever had your shoulder ripped out, your forearm broke in half, or all the blood going to your brain cut-off and you can't do shit about it? Hummm thought not. Before you think to your simple-minded self,.... wait he probably hasn't either, I've professionally practice Juijitsu for 7 years and BJJ for 4 years. Huge, buff, strong, tough guys get dropped like little toddlers when the blood to their brain gets cut-off. You know what happens if they don't tap?.... Brain Damage!? ... who would of guessed? I guess they are sissys for not wanting to be turned into a vegetable for the rest of their natural life,.... even though they had already lost. Comeback when you don't sound/look/think like a dumbass.
On topic~ I agree with the guy, MMA is a fad. That's not really an insult. And I'll agree with some of the guys on the forum when I say the problem with you guys comparing MMA and boxing is when you say one creates a better fighter then another. If you are talking art wise, I personally feel boxing is more of an art because, in part, the limited motion given to the boxers makes them learn to be more creative and effective in predicting their opponents moves. But in regards to being a better fighter, MMA is without a doubt the way. This point is NOT debatable, and anyone who thinks otherwise should choke on a knife.... cause they really are freakin dumb and it's purely astounding that they've survived in the real world so long with that head on their shoulders.
And to all those people who say MMA are just guys who master nothin and punch like retards. You know NOTHIN, not a damn thing. There are people who go around mastering different arts. Yes, they do exist. They are also called MMA. In fact, how do you think the UFC was made? When you Sack-Huggers finish your trip back to reality, don't freakin insult a style that purely owns all other styles. You just continue to look like Sack-Huggers.:puppy_dog
Let Me Just Say This. Yes I Think It Takes A Lot More Training And Disipline To Be A Mma Fighter But The Real Question Is Not What A Boxer Could Do In A Mma Fight But What Would A Mma Fighter Do If He Had To Box Only, I Mean Come On Bj Penn Vs Floyd Boxing Only? Penn Wins (yeah You Got To Be Kidding Me) Boxing Is Boxing And Mma Is Mma
You Can Cross Over From One To The Other But It Takes A Lot To Be Great At Boxing, Every Mma Fighter Has To Train Boxing Cause All The Fights Start Standing Up, Look At The Iceman Chuck He Dont Really Go To The Ground But Are You Telling Me If He Was To Fight A Boxer That We Would Last 12 Rounds ?
I can't believe I just read that. Sissy because they tap out? Yeah, it's a lot better to have your arm broken and the possibility to never fight again (at definitely not for at least a handful of months after it) present in every submission situation... That being said; nobody in their right mind would compete in an MMA situation where they weren't allowed to tap out.
you can hit a downed man it is not a sport it is assult at that point ..IMO ..but before that there is lots of skill, fitness , strengh needed to be elite. it is fun but boxing can will always be # 1. it is artsy sometimes to watch. UFC is brutal and thet get paid shit to take knees elbow to the face jaw. you can wrench peps necks.

No genius.
Anyone who throws a fucking leg kick is a kickboxer in MMA. It's a simple maneuver....leg kicking. Foreman pointed out that kickboxers take punishment on their legs, boxer don't.
And while we're at it....there are dozens of boxers turned MMA that stood no chance at all
See Mercer, Ray and Butterbean
Hahahahaaha
C'mon RWK. You must be grasping at straws when you consider butterbean a real boxer.
There isn't an actual debate here. Do I feel boxing is more of an art form than MMA? Of course. But art is subjective so neither side is wrong. Further along those lines; the fact that anybody here is discussing who would win in a boxing ring or octagon if they fought is useless. 90% of the time the fighter trained in that sport would win.... with the 10% chance reserved for the fact that both sides have the ability to knock one another out with a decent shot.
Just my $.02.
i dont really like MMA, i find it way too anti-climactic as most guys cannot stand up to one good shot from an equally skilled opponent
its cool to see a seet knock out here and there but im not gonna bother to get to know the personalities.... i like emilianenko and crop crop (PRide), dislike all the UFC mainstays, hoping mirko cleans UFC out...
that being said, Floyd Mayweather is just a pure hater, whats the surprise here?
For a better comparison, Boxing is like watching a great painter a la Picasso work their craft and MMA is like watching a toddler trying to paint using a water color IMO.
Hahaha I like that comparison, especially since I'm a huge boxing fan and the Guernica just happens to be my favorite painting of all time. Very well put, homie.
That's not even worth responding to, and you know it. You're just taking cheap shots and talking trash now....all of it's false.
lol, don't cry bro. I was just being sarcastic because your talking as if MMA fighters are way tougher just because they wear 3oz gloves. If boxing wore the same size of gloves then mostly every round would end in a knockout and not have that sports feel anymore, and just imagine all the great fights we wouldn't have had due to the early stoppages or knockouts cause of the gloves.
Yup, you're waking up now steve.

Oh really??????.....Complete my ass, if they really are superior at everything they train in then let me see an MMA fighter put on some gloves and fight an elite boxer, or go to thailand and step in the ring with a kickboxer....I can go on and on, and I'm sure they would always come out on the short end of the stick. MMA fighters train to just know the basics of everything and not really get into the art of it.
That's how I see MMA too, it's like they train the basics so they will know how to defend attacks like submissions, wrestling, kicks, etc. They don't have full mastery of the disciplines.
How about we see a boxer take the 14 oz gloves off....put on some 3oz gloves and fight a MMA fighter in the Octagon. Oh and spare the "Going to Thailand and fighting the best kickboxers".
Thai people don't grow past 5'1 inches tall and weigh 100 lbs. There's no way they could ever compete in an openweight tourney.
Then send the MMAists to Netherlands, a country that is just as good in muay thai and has a bunch of heavyweights (Aerts, Bonjasky to name a few).
I like watching combat sports but Boxing is still a favorite of mine, it requires more skill than MMA. I used to train in Kickboxing and submissions a couple years before I started Boxing. And Damn! Most of the boxers I trained with are as tough as nails and very hard to hit (especially the flyweights, bantams, and feathers here in Philippines). Boxers naturally punch a lot harder and move a lot faster and their stamina's unbelievable. MMAists may be good (and not great) in other areas but I noticed their stamina's laughable, most of them can't take a punch (I know you MMAists will say "but they use smaller gloves and they hurt more"). Boxers take more punishment when in a bout cuz of constant blows to the head and most of them don't fall that easily. I always call the MMA stand up "Sloppy Boxing and Sloppy Kickboxing". It just cracks me up cuz most of them don't even know how to punch right, time their punches or even snap their punches.
For a better comparison, Boxing is like watching a great painter a la Picasso work their craft and MMA is like watching a toddler trying to paint using a water color IMO.
Oh really, I'd rather watch these two guy's down the street fight with no gloves on...............
Ok that's pushing it.
Now I suppose every fighter in MMA is just the guy next door right?

How in the hell is someone supposed to gain "Ali like recognition" when MMA has only been a publicized sport for a little over ten years?
You're not being fair.
Oh and I like watching people break limbs and fight like real men with 3oz gloves on.....instead of rollerskating around a ring.

Why are you assuming that I'm O.K. with Tito's comments?
I love boxing, and would never trash it unless I was pointing out what I don't like about it....just like I do MMA. I'm not O.K. with his comments....because they're blanketed much like Floyd's and you people's statements.
It's all a bunch of annoying ignorance.
k well that shut me up :owned:
Why is it that when Ortiz disses Boxing its alright but when Floyd comes around and disses UFC you get all butt hurt?? UFC has been around for years.. I remember being in middle school and my friends dad had plenty of videos.. I also remember there was no weight class or some shit.

Plus, i doubt Floyd knows anything about art.
He probably thinks Van Gough was a ninja turtle!
This is true. The Turtles were all named after artists. Michaelangelo, Raphael... Donatello Versace and, um, Leonardo DiCaprio...
All these people taking like they are fighters I bet any money they never put on boxing gloves or did any type MMA ever. You have to know what you talking about before talking about an Art. It feel good to say all this sport is better than this one from behind a fucking sofa. ALL i have to say is try it for a couple of months than come in here and say what you guys think about each sport.
I've trained in Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Aiki-jujutsu, Muay Thai and Boxing. Boxing is the toughest by a country mile.
if boxing is so superior why don't the millitary train guys to Box in the battlefield verses knowing MMA
More military guys train in boxing than in "MMA". The close quarter combat training in the military is not mixed martial arts, as mixed martial arts implies a sport based martial art mix with rules.
