Man I just saw this fight all over and I couldn't believe how sluggish, out of shape and unprepared Trinidad looked. I heard Don King and Trinidad tried to get a rematch after Tito's fight with Cherifi, but instead of taking the much bigger money, Hopkins fought guys like Carl Daniels, Morrade Hakkar and William Joppy. I heard Hopkins had "legal problems" with DK and therefore never made the fight because of that reason.
Turned down a huge pay day for "legal problems"? Does anyone know what really happened? I mean, a guy as smart as Hopkins is doesn't seem to pass up on that opportunity for stupid reasons.
Rahman KOd Lewis in the 1st fight...We all know what happened in the 2nd.
It took Hopkins 12 rounds to KO Tito... So it's not like Tito would have NO chance if they met again. That was a Waaaay off night for Tito and to think Hopkins is that magical is ridiculous. Definitely room fro improvemnet on Tito's end. Simply...Tito was too small for Hopkins.
lol at the comparison:
Rahman knocks lewis out with one punch out of the blue.
Hopkins batters tito into submission for 12 rounds.
...
again
you have PR in your screen name,
your post suggests tito could have done better against hopkins
a suggestion:
go watch the fight again,
go watch hopkins raping the MW division for 10 years
do the math
isnt it ridiculous to think tito is magical after seeing him in the ring with dlh, hop and winky?
We're missing what happened between the Cherifi fight and what made Tito retire, whether it was not getting another shot at Hopkins or just saying the hell with it. If he was retired for one day, 3 months, 3 months and 2 weeks, he was retired.
What happened was that Tito finally watched the rape he got from Hopkins.
if tito wanted hopkins so badly, he could have fought him even after SAYING he was retired, it is not like he had a year layoff
the reason the rematch did not happen is that tito (or someone in his team) did not want to fight hopkins. if it was because he knew he would lose or because he was "retired" is not official. But watch tito-hopkins, consider he was "retired" for 3 months and do the math.
get over it. i know it is hard cos tito is a national hero, but just get over it.
I got over it.........Cotto helped us get over it :D
Still you wouldn't expect a performance like that, considering he was a 5 time world champ in 3 weight divisions who beat 3 olympic gold medalists :D
Anyway, thanks for the link.

Yeah...no
He was'nt sluggish he just wasn't as good as Hopkins and Tito never wanted anything to do with Hopkins after that fight.

to summarize
you said trinidad said he wanted to fight hopkins after the cherifi fight (may 2002)
i gave you a link from an article, from a puertorican paper, from aug 2002, in which it is reported that hopkins flew to puerto rico to call out tito. tito's father said no thank you.
this happens in aug 24, 2002. 3 months and 2 weeks after tito said he was having a rematch with hopkins.
you say the article is irrelevant, bcos tito was retired by then.
I say that 3 months and 2 weeks of inactivity is not called retirement in a time where championship caliber fighter fight two times a year, three at most.
also what are those 3 lines i never wrote doing there?
"Really, you need to follow boxing a little closer and learn that punchers can win a fight with a single shot, not even considering coming in better prepared."
i would never write some out of point shit like that
Well of course you wouldn't....... That link was a year afterwards. Just sounds funny that I heard Tito saying after his fight with Cherifi that a BHop rematch was going to be his next fight, then he retired and then that link.
This article is one year after the fight and well after Tito's retirement. You mean to tell me that all that time that wen't through Bernard waited to finally agree to a rematch after Tito was retired and him making probably under a mill in three fights?

only my opinion my ass. the entire world saw that fight, and you will be hard pressed to find any one who has no borikua links, who has a different opinion

no. I actually mentioned it as a reason only because it is in your post.
(I know hopkins fought 3 fights times in 2 years while under don king)
The reason for which there was no rematch is because whoever made the matches for tito did not want him in the ring with Hopkins again. His dad?
my opinion... maybe?

I guess we'll never know the answer to that one. That's only your opinion. But I guess fights against Hakkar, Joppy and that other guy make more sense for his legacy and $$$, that's my opinion.

Now we're talking, do you know what was that feud all about?
no. I actually mentioned it as a reason only because it is in your post.

and of course, a rematch would not have been interesting for the public except for those who like to watch rape on video

you want to know why there was no rematch?
because hopkins had his feud with dk. happy?
Now we're talking, do you know what was that feud all about?
Getting off topic a bit, I remember Tito calling out Roy Jones after the Joppy fight, I think it was. Tito was the man, but fighting the Jones of that time would have been crazy. Tito at middle always looked a bit out of place for me. He is good there, but cant beat the best, tho.
I still cant figure out the Winky fight...not one lead right that I can remember. I'm not saying he would have beat Winky...but to be shut out and dominated like he did was unacceptable, imo.
