if you think about it, cassius did have a pretty big mouth durin his career he gloated and shouted about how brilliant he was and that he was the best in the world. Now think about floyd and how big his mouth is now hes bragin on about how hes the best in the world and the best ever. Cassius is now loved by 99% of all boxin fans, the man was a genius and full credit to floyd he is a fantastic boxer. It took several years for people to begin to like cassius unless a lot of people already liked him then but my question is, in a few years time will the boxin fans start to realise how good a boxer floyd was and begin to like him like they did cassius i mean they both are very skilled and talented, but with big mouths and one is already loved, will the other be in years to come?
Ali was a ton more controversial than Mayweather. The whole buisiness with the Vietnam War made him more than just a boxer, but almost a representation of those against the War...Im fairly sure the public portrayed Frazier as a supporter of the War, not with his consent either...
Ali had been in wars...the Frazier fights amazed people. Mayweather isnt boring or anything, at kleast to me, but hasnt really had to show heart...the public loves fighters that show heart and has nothing against trading shots. Floyd very seldomly even gets hit cleanly due to his reflexes and defense, so thats out of the picture for him...
Ali was a major underdog in his big fights...fighters get tons of attention if they pull off an upset. Ali did it twice to two major All Time Greats...Liston and Foreman. Whens the last time Floyd has ever been unexpected to win, let alone a major underdog?
And last of all Ali had longevity...Floyd won his first title about 8 years ago, and is still challenging for titles. Ali got his first title, and was still in title fights 16 years later...people really went through their childhood hearing his name as a champ or contendor...being a heavyweight and incredibly fast for one didnt hurt either...
Its not Mayweathers fault or anything, and I think hes going to get more credit when people look back on his career, but its just kind of hard to eccplise the effects Ali had on the public, not just the boxing world

Well, it really has to do with how you use that big mouth. When Clay did it, he was charming, a little silly, and didn't take himself too seriously. He made it fun and entertaining.
Mayweather just comes off as an arrogant, boorish, classless, egocentric asshole.
Thats right....perfect wording and great opinion good k cumin ur way lol
Ali transcended the sport. In fact, he transcended sport in general.
He was a cultural and religious icon out of the ring. In the ring he ducked nobody, he had an entertaining warrior style, fought some brutal fights and took some incredible beatings. In interviews he was never anything but engaging, interesting, eloquent and most of all funny.
There will never be another sports personality like him.

Ali became a cultural icon because he was the greatest at what he did, inside and outside of the ring, at a time when America and the world needed it.
The world needs that again, the thing is Floyd is the greatest of now in the ring, he just does not have the inteligence or the education to be that out of the ring.
Tyson captured the worlds imagination for a while but it seems to me that the important cultural athelets of today, the people making statements that are trancending the world of athletics, they are playing other sports. I.E.-Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods.
History does repeat itself so to say there will Never be another ALI is not true, it just might take longer than we expect. And the person will definitly not be boxing.
true dat homie lol just kiddin but yeah i agree with you.

No, Ali is loved by the world because he stood up for his beliefs which had nothing to do with anything he did in the ring.
it was a combination of the two. But his ring accomplishmants speak for themself.
No, Ali is loved by the world because he stood up for his beliefs which had nothing to do with anything he did in the ring.
And in standing up for his beliefs lost some of his prime years. He showed that standing up for what is right is more important to him than simply being the Champion.
ali is loved by the world because he beat fraizer , listin , foreman , so on so forth

mayweather is hated because he fights gatti , castillio , corrales , judah and baldimer ..
and calls himself the greatest ..
now imagein if ali only fought chavalo , spinks , norton , and shavers
then said he was the greatest... it'd be much different attitude
lol.
Floyd will never be Ali, (this is where I keep typing h's and a's over and over)
Ali is a world figure for his beliefs and was a motivational icon for millions of counter cultural activists around the world.
What the hell has Floyd done?

I agree they both have big mouths, but Ali did his for good causes and important causes too. No one outside of the boxing world really cares about Floyd Mayweather. But you can ask anyone about Muhammad Ali and they'll know him. He spoke about the government, religion, and other political issues. Floyd Mayweather doesn't.
