As an English guy i always feel im missing something when i download a fight with american commentary. What is the deal with larry? he fumbles his lines which are said at about a quarter of a normal speaking speed. He doesnt even strike me as particulalry eloquent or knowledgable so why do hbo insist on him being there all the time? Im expecting people to tell me what a 'legend' he is for one reason or another but why? he pisses me off and ruins a lot of the fights i download

Especially over the last few years you can see him slipping, call it a combo of old age and being drunk. Cannot believe no one mentioned his fondness for the booze while on the job. Its a well known fact that boxing insiders have joked about for decades.
He was good once but his best days are clearly behind him. Hell, anyone else notice how he barely spoke up much on the Castillo/ Hatton card?
Still one of my favorite Larry lines was in his Douglas-Tyson intro, that the fight was (paraphrasing) "A frog being fed to the snake," and then after the fight chuckling, "Well, I guess that frog was poisonous."
he comes out with some classic 1 liner, and he says the things other commentators wouldnt say, to be honest hed be nothin without lampley
Agreed!
Even with the last part of it...
But nevertheless Larry is the best! Classic!!! HOF!!!!!
Nothin recent. I cant remember the last fights he did. But I always thought he was eloquent and always seemed to point out certain things a fighter was doing that the average person might miss. But usually Larry would try and burst his bubble.
Larry ALWAYS tried to burst his bubble and that pissed me off man, no need
Entertaining as hell! Funny guy, always tried to make it seem like the fight could easily go the other way when clearly it was a one way beating! Didnt know too much tho. And Lewis? He is "Definatley" The worst!
DEFINATELY!
YES! I've always liked RJJ as an analyst. Big George wasnt the greatest, imo, but was always entertaining. But Roy Jones was the best analyst HBO has had.

thats true. I love jim watt. He gets a lot of hate but he really knows what hes talking about. Im not against american commentators in general i think mannys got a good eye for technicalities similar to jim watt actually, but merchant ruins it all. i havent heard jones jr before has he done anything recent?

The UK commentaters are good but ur right sumtimes they can be a bit biased! Lampley is probably the best! Roy Jones really knows his stuff too! Like El Tempile says Merchant duz hav sum good 1 liners but he aint my cup of tea by a long way!
I could live without him.

lol...You arent the only one, my friend. Larry is an acquired taste for us Americans; either you love him or hate him. I personally, dont like him. Now, I dont know their names, but I like your British announcers on Sjy Network, I beleive it is? I've heard them mostly on Ricky Hatton fights, and tho a bit biased towards fighters from England, they are top notch.

His droning voice bores the tits off of me! I find him a bit negative sometimes too
More than a bit negative...the guy is a grouch! He doesnt seem to like anyone who wins a fight.
