Seriously i have seen all his fights from 1984-1997 and they dont impress me. His entire rep is built on what he did from 1977-1982. He was losing to hearns before the late tko and he got a "gift draw" in the re-match. You can argue that he really didnt even beat hagler, it was 12 rounds of throwing weak punches and running.
To me he is a ray robinson with a much weaker chin and lesser KO power. There shouldnt be a comparison between the two, robinson aged better, had a better chin and hit harder.
He comes back after only a 1 year layoff and gets schooled by terry norris.
Leonard had multiple eye surguries, which cut his prime years short. That's why he had a short prime. It was extenuating circumstances.
You know what i meant by fraud though right, all i'm saying is that his fights on paper were different than how they actually went down. Hearns can brag that he outboxed leonard for 16 out of 26 rounds. He can also say he gassed in the first fight cuz the weigh ins were on the same day. What happened in thier re-match, hearns took him to school, nicely.

There is only one "sugar", and that is Ray Robinson. Although Ray Leonard had lots of talent, he never accomplished enough in his career to equal the great boxers of the past. What Leonard has done is effectively manipulated boxing to enrichen himself. Professional boxing is a business, and making money is its goal. I am not about to critisize Leonard for his financial success, however, we should not confuse Leonard's manipulations with his accomplishments as a boxer.
Yep SRl did kinda age fast. I have always thought that. But lets face it he did have hard matches against boxing greats, in wars, unlike some boxers today.
But having said that have you seen his face nowadays. He dont look a day over 38 years old, so you cant say hes aged in that sense.

do you like anyone other than Larry Holmes?

you arew an idiot!!
being outboxed by hearns is nothing to be ashamed of i don't remember hearns being behind on points agains't anyone
he was only beaten when he was passed his prime he was one of many boxers who foughnt for too long
SRL is one of my favorite fighters of all time as well as Hearns, Hagler and Duran... I grew up during that era they where the best at that time and they fought, beat, loss to each other ...
by no means SRL is a fraud, during his prime the only one who was able to beat him was Duran (wrong fight plan), his back on the wall and needing a KO to win against Hearns was one of the best come from behind victory I have seen, on his come back fight the Hagler fight was close as hell and Hagler did not or could not assert himself against SRL ...
but after that fight I think it was all down hill from that point ...
No, he was a great fighter. You are a troll.....
that ive been sure of every since i seen brownpimp post...joe louis was overrated, marciano was controlled by the mob, and now srl is a fraud...no he wasnt a fraud just smart boxing wise and like ali continued on to long after his skills diminished
I think you guys misunderstood my meaning of fraud. People act like he is top 10 p4p ever and i completly disagree with that, he is top 20 though. However it is insane to rank leonard above ezzard charles, p4p. Ezzard beat walcott x2, burley x2, moore x3, louis, liesnivich, maxim x5, and 3 other hall of famers.
IMO the welterweight ray robinson and the light heavyweight ezzard are the two best fighters that ever lived, you cant compare leonard to those two, i'm sorry.
so by you guys logic i can say julio cesar chaves is a fraud and got gifts over people he fought?
U can say chavez is not in pernell's league cuz DK knows pernell would embrass him again.
Hearns and Leonard have boxed each other 26 rounds and hearns won like 16 or 17 of them. I'm not denying leonard has skills, however he aged very fast. None of his fights from 84-89 make him seem like a world class level legend, his career was basically 1977-1982.

When you beat Hearns, Duran, and Hagler that's enough.
He got those wins when he needed them.
The fact of the matter is, he fought head to head with the stronger Duran, rangy and powerful Hearns, talented Benitez and bigger Hagler...
close or not...he fought them all and won...
all of which are HOFers
Its just that PBF is sometimes compared to Ray. PBF has even claimed he thinks he is better than SRL. I am saying PBF is great but hasnt acheived what someone like SRL has - opponents wise. That is all really
dont start with that pbf shit.ahaha then the thread will get changed
duran 2 was the biggest fraud of all duran had to lose 50 lbs in 6 weeks just to make weight, yet the media wants you to beleive that leanord made him quit,, duran made that latest pic of vargas floating around look like nicole richie, his rsume was overated but he was a truly great fighter, duran comes to win beats him, then has no bussiness being in the ring but his manager couldnt turn down 10 mill in 1980 so he got a gift in duran leanord 2 the biggest fraud in boxing history
