"I am a boxing scholar and I know what I have to do to become Britain's best ever.
"I know exactly what Lennox Lewis, Barry McGuigan and John Conteh and the other top British boxers achieved. They all came to America and to tell the truth they had mixed results.
"I have to dominate like no other British boxer has ever done and that will all begin next week."
"I know that what I've achieved so far has never been done before by a British boxer.
"I've won the IBF and WBA light-welterweight titles and the WBA welterweight title and now I'm going back after the IBF light-welterweight crown again.
"It might look crazy on paper but I've had to meet real world champions in hard fights and nobody in boxing is prepared to do that.
"I think it's fair to say I have done it the hard way, the old-fashioned way and that is exactly the way I have wanted to do it.
"In years to come I don't want people to look back on my career and say, 'Oh, he beat one or two decent fighters'.
"I want people to see just how many world champions I went in against and realise that I did it the real way."
"After Urango it's no secret that I want to fight Castillo and that will be an enormous fight.
"Every time I look at any pound-for-pound lists I see Castillo's name above mine and that is something I will want to change.
"Castillo is not the last big name I want to meet and beat because there will be a couple more fights and when they are over I'll be ready to pack my bags and walk away."
Mayweather remains top of his list.
But he doesn't rule out fights with Corrales, Cotto, Collazo, or Witter.
Mayweather will be a ringside guest next week, and said "I'm looking forward to getting an up close and personal look at Hatton so that I can make my mind up."
I think Witter has pretty good power. His speed creates his power though. He dropped Lovemore N'Dou twice with 1 punch. I don't even think that N'Dou saw the punch coming & I've never seen that guy hurt. Even in his fight with Cotto he was hit with the kitchen sink & still put alot of pressure on Cotto & had him on the defensive. I think stylistically Witter would give Hatton alot of trouble & would exploit the same kind of holes in Hatton as did Collazo. I think that's part of the reason why Hatton isn't interested in fighting him.
Its not about raw power. Its all about styles IMO.
I think Witter could hit and hurt Hatton. I wonder if Witter could handle Hattons suffocating pressure?
I don't think Witter has a prayer against Hatton. I reckon his much vaunted power is overrated, as does Rick's UK sparring partner who has been sparring parnter to Witter and to Hatton and says that Hattons punches are harder.
I had heard that WItter hit harder. That suprised me, becasue the people who were recieving Hattons punches didnt seem too happy taken them. If Hatton didnt hit hard as some had suggested why would people like the texture and taste of the canvas, and not liking the sound of the 12th round.
Plus Hatton is quite a stocky guy and is known to be quite strong why would he not hit as hard as Witter?

I don't think he has a chance either :) :boxing:

It depends on what Witter does in the meantime. I reckon Witter would be a good finale at the COM stadium before Rick calls it a night, and as long as Witter keeps winning I don't think the impact of a fight like that will ever be diminished in the UK.
Yeah, your right, only if Witter Keeps winning though. Do you think he could beat Hatton? Personally i'd love to see Hatton shut him up.
I think if Hatton fights Castillo and Cotto and beats them...then fights Mayweather he won't even care about Witter anymore.

Piss off asshole. And why don't you do me a favor and tear off the Shitman's scrotum with your putrid rotting teeth during your next tea bagging session. That piece of garbage deserves castration for styling himself after Hearns. Frankly, he also deserves it to prevent the spread of his vile genes to successive generations. Fuck, while we're playing that game we might as well sterilize the entire UK. What a hideous amalgamation of hooligans and goons.
Oh my god - mate.... calm down - Its going to be ok. Its a forum for opinions not to insult an entire nation.
I agree with all of that apart from one thing.
I think if Hatton fights Castillo and Cotto and beats them...then fights Mayweather he won't even care about Witter anymore.
Castillo would be a massive fight and if he wins he'd have to fight Cotto or Mayweather at 147 because i can't see either of them going down to 140 for him. Even though i'd love to see it i think Hatton would have alot of trouble with Cotto at 147 and don't think he could beat Mayweather at that weight.
Couple of things: First the comment about Lennox Lewis was not intended to be disrespectful. His point wasn't that Lewis was a failure, but that his impact stateside was mixed. Sure he beat everyone and dominated for four years but do you think he was ever universally accepted as an elite fighter by the majority in the United States, in the same way that, say, Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield were? Hatton is looking to be great in the sense that the US fight fans will accept him as a great fighter instead of being overlooked which is something that has happened to all the British fighters who have previous made the trip over the atlantic, including Lennox.
Every time I hear an American mention Lennox it's in the context of him dominating an era in which all the other fighters were rubbish. And also he gets crtiticism for not rematiching Vitali and for having a boring style. Hatton's goal is to transcend that.
Second thing is that Hatton is considered an elite fighter by most boxing analysts including the Ring magazine (who had him ranked at number two challenger at Welterweight after Floyd Mayweather (number 1) and Carlos Baldomir (Ring champ) after his fight with Collazo. Collazo was ranked at number four in the Ring's ratings at Welter when Hatton fought and beat him, so he was a top fighter. Maussa was ranked sixth at 140 (I think) after he beat Vivian Harris, Kostya was ranked as champ by the Ring and ranked number two P4P (despite being 35). Ben Tackie was in the top ten at Jr Welter as well, while Hatton was ranked 7th for years and years.
I'm not saying the Ring is the be all and end all of boxing opinion, far from it, however it does show a heavy American bias and Hatton is still very highly regarded by them. I expect that Hatton's fight with Urango will go very well and he'll put on a clinic, and then take on Castillo, which is a big big fight. Then what happens next we'll have to see, but I'm hoping it will involve a fight against Cotto (which is a pick'em fight, Cotto dislikes having the pace dictated to him but he is a very hard hitter in close), then Mayweather, then Junior "up the" Witter before he retires at 32 or 33.
Mayweather I think would be a fight that Hatton could easily lose but I would see Mayweather and Hatton having one of the classic trilogies in boxing: The first fight ends with a TKO win for Floyd because of cuts, the second a Hatton UD and the third a Hatton knockout. But that's my wishlist, and we'll see if they ever face one another. Mayweather is the best pure boxer of his generation but Hatton will bully him and give him real problems.
Let's see how Urango goes first though, shall we?
but how do you know that, floyd didnt have to re-match castillo but he did, he doesnt have to go 5divisions lookin for the big fights north but he does
hatton hasnt re-matched collazo, he hasnt stayed fighting bigger guys, he went back down to fight a terrible fighter
If he does things that are greater than rematch Collazo then no one will care.
Lots of top fighters kept going after controversials with rep in tact.
Mosley is looking to make Collazo disappear.
Mosley whoops Collazo and everybody will say the Hatton thing was a fluke.
But if Ricky fucks up - history will remember Collazo.
That outcome is predicated on these two fights and future ones.
1. Its not an internet act. I'd be hard even if your punk ass were right in front of me.
2. I'm hardly a "little" anything. And yes, I'd smack the shit out of his little ass whether he was a 5'6" 140 pounder or a 5'6" 180 pounder. And I'd smack the shit out of your punk ass if you ever said some shit like that to my face too. Believe me, I'm not little, I'm not a acting, and I'd fuck your punk ass up and your little fat idols too.
of course you would sweetheart
I think its the amount of heart hes got which makes him different from other boxers. for instance Floyds got the skills, but i wouldn't ever say he's got as much heart as Hatton.

That's good to hear. I'd like to see someone do that.
I appreciate his efforts. He's a good man Ricky Hatton.
Great fighter as well.
I'm 6'1" 205 pounds. Sorry if I don't feel that a 5'6" 140 pounder is going to do much damage to me. Outside the ring, I'm not losing that fight. Boxing is an artform, no doubt about that, but its a different story when they're not in the ring. Didn't Ricky just get his watch stolen by a couple Asian guys? Being a professional boxer didn't help him too much there did it? I would never compare myself to a professional boxer in the ring, but outside I don't think anyone here would be sweating Ricky Hatton if he walked in the room. I'm not trying to sound like some tough guy, but are you scared of someone half a foot shorter and 70 pounds lighter than you?
yo whatever dude, your probs some spotty assed skinny kid with glasses..

C'mon Hatton wasnt going to do something silly before a boxing match and get potentially injured for the sake of a watch now is he? Lets be reasonable here. Those shanghai dudes carry meatcleavers in their trouser pockets dont they or something like that. Hatton can afford another watch i am sure of that.
Dont underestimate Hatton at 5ft6inch or so being able to take care of himself out of the ring though as well as in the ring. Their are lots of 6ft+ boxers who wouldnt get in the ring with him. And many 6ft+ people who wouldnt dare mug him without a gang or a knife handy.
