Hes won Championship Belts at : middle-weight, light heavy weight/cruiserweight, and finally Heavy-Weight
All the James Toney hate is disgusting....All that shit talk he does is for promotion and its not real, even Peters said it before the fight that he likes james toney a lot and knows its all jokes! The fact that Peters couldnt knock toney out is a joke within it self....i love the fact that all the toney haters got all upset and angry from all his antics, LOL :bottle:
What makes me proud to be a Toney fan is that he was landing some serious shots in that fight and if it was any other heavy-weight, they would have been knocked out!
He indeed lost the fight last night, but not because he was out of shape nor out classed....it was because the size and power difference
James Toney was also never even close to being knocked out, let alone only droped 3 times to the canvas in 80 fights!
Toney aint going nowhere, Hate him or Love him, your gonna pay to watch his next fight!
Toney did not test Peter's chin. He hit him with some clean punches, and he was elusive enough to keep from taking too many big right hands. He fought valiantly, with class and skill, and I respect his effort. But those punches would not have knocked out any decent heavyweight let alone almost all like the threadstarter claims.
Taking into account that both Hopkins and Mosley were able to dominate their divisions for an extended period of time, something Toney was unable to do, I would say there is an argument for both of those fighters being "better."
Exactly. Hopkin's win agaisnt Tito and Shane's first one over Oscar also give them major points.
when i saw your avatar, i knew you were gonna say trinidad, and to even put him anywhere near the top of anything, you have no clue what ur talking about!
Same as with Bernard and Shane. I'm far from a Tito fan, but facts are facts. 14 Welterweight title defenses, impressive victories and destructions of top contenders and champions; he may not have been the most versatile boxer ever, but his achievements are more significant than Toney's.
Toney had a better career then most of the guys you've mentioned, Toney is P4P guy like Duran, he will remembered like Duran in the future!
If any of you guys that don't have Toney in the Top 5 best boxers of our time then you really don't know boxing!
And why is that? Care to support this with any argument whatsoever?
Toney may have never lost at middleweight if he has stayed and only Jones could beat him at super . You can give me Hopkins, Benn and banks all you want but it is my opinnion that he would beat all three .
He didn't move up because he wanted too, he moved up because he couldn't make the weight anymore. He was over 200 lbs. in High School when he played football, so don't say that if he stayed at 160 he would've never lost and don't bring up that "he is a natural middleweight" thing, cuz it's bullshit.
Fact is the boxing world will never agree on how to rank fighters . boxing has lacked the clear cut G.O.A.T's unlike basketball, football, hockey, and baseball, . We do have Ali and Robinson who are about as close as it gets yet still you have a group of people who wilol say that Louis or Marciano are better then Ali and there is always someone that picks SRL,Duran ect over Robinson.
Toney is a great fighter.
But just like many great actors - his career was unfulfilled.
I think his laziness has cost him.
He's extremely talented - but not a HEAVYWEIGHT.
A guy with his skills should not be losing to the fighters he has.
I rate Toney much lower because of the OVERALL RESULT.
iam just finding it real funny that some many people are jealous of james toney....let alone hate him....LOL all that shit talkin worked, i bet you all the haters tunned in to watch james toney fight
Nobody I think is jealous of Toney.
There are however annoyed people who want his fat, blown up, disrespectful, annoying fan base having, excuse making ass to leave boxing at the right time:

Top 5 of our time (in order):
1. Lennox Lewis
2. James Toney
3. Roy Jones Jr.
4. Mike Tyson
5. Marco Antonio Barrera
And where are:
Mayweather
De La Hoya
Holyfield
Pacquiao (yet unproven, but give him time)
But the other 3 I would rate above Toney, no doubt!
???

the fucking nut-hugger are blind to how many shots toney acutally landed....ill repeat myself a million times, if he fought anyone who didnt have a cast iron jaw, they were going down...he tested peters beard all night
Thats along the lines of what I was stating. People are posting that the fight was a shut-out and Peter denominated, etc. But Toney stayed in the fight all night and was countering and landing good. Peter won but it was not very easy like many are making it seem.

where the fuck were you like earlier today......lol anyway i agree with most of the post at the end of this thread.....i also see toney continuing to get in better shape and rack up a few wins before he retires
Toney should quit now
Why ? He has a rematch with Rahman if he want's it . Possible matches that are worth a lot of money with Hopkins, Tarver, and Jones, and can still beat more then half of the heavyweights. He lost to Peter who was what ranked 4th in the world and maybe the hardest puncher in all of boxing . Lets not jump the gun and act like he fell so far off he just lost to a much younger much bigger and stronger man . There is NO shame in that .
5th may be a little high with fighters like Pep ,Robinson,Sandler,Duran,Langford,Leonard,Jones,Armstrong,Griffith,Ross, Whitaker, ect, around but he is right up there with them . I wont make a list but he has to be in the 10-20's at least .
Roy Jones is the only fighter that ranks higher between 160-190 than Toney in this era. A rematch at 175 would have told a lot, but Toney got robbed by Griffin.
