Declaring himself as the mandatory challenger in view of the probable demise of a Barrera-Pacquiao rematch, Humberto Soto is demanding that Marco face him instead of Juan Manuel Marquez.
Soto said, his right to face Barrera in the event of a failed MAB-Pac rematch was guaranteed during the last WBC confab.
"I am first, and if he does not want to defend against me, he (Barrera) should abdicate the title so that I can fight the next ranking contender for the world crown," Soto said. Soto dispelled rumors that he is stepping aside so Barrera can face Marquez. "I am not afraid of him and I do not avoid anybody. I am ready for the best and they are the ones who do not want to face me. If he (Barrera) is afraid of me, then he should just give up the title," Soto added.
Happy New Year to you too pal!!!
A failure for Pac-MAB II happen will be eyed with much regret but I don't think it shall tarnish Barrera's legacy much. Barrera however shall go into retirement with that loss.
I join you and all that Oscar and Arum will find some ways to agree and get things moving. They both owe it to the fans and the sport.and this fight means a lot of MONEY for both of them. These two guys must be very rich already to miss the opportunity of making a lot of dollars because of their stinking pride. haha!!!
Happy new year buddy!!!! you think marco's legacy will be tarnished if this rematch doesn't happen? People will say that he has all the chance to fight pac but it never happened and for what reason? We know all the reason of course but marco should be aggressive and tell hoya that he wants this fight or he might not know the answer to his question of what could have happened had he fight pac again..Happy New Year to you too pal!!!
A failure for Pac-MAB II happen will be eyed with much regret but I don't think it shall tarnish Barrera's legacy much. Barrera however shall go into retirement with that loss in the first fight and rueing the knowledge that could have had a chance to redeem himself had he tried harder to help make it happen. I do not know how much more forcefully can Marco work for the fight to happen, if he knows of some ways, he should do it.

In all honesty, Humberto Soto deserves the fight but Barrera won't take it. At this stage of his career, Barrera doesn't want to get involved with a young guy like this who can fight his ass off all night. This is a much, much more dangerous fight financially than Pacquiao, when you factor in risk and reward.Money and legacy as considerations, yes. Facing Pacquiao again is Barrera's best choice.
I'm one of those buying MAB-JMM, buddy. It's just interesting to find out how many more would:)
I'm buying MAB-Soto too and Pac-Soto, along with Pac-JMM II and Pac-MAB II.
I want to see all of those fights right there. Humberto Soto Deserves a title shot.
Yeah, pal, those considerations. Risk/reward.
But if legacy is the primary consideration, you are right. Oscar and Marco along with ARum should get things moving for the rematch to happen.Happy new year buddy!!!! you think marco's legacy will be tarnished if this rematch doesn't happen? I can see your point clearly and it thus make sense, unfortunately MAB didn't do that. He is fighting JMM instead. :p
I'm picking JMM. So we're looking at a bigger JMM vs Pac match up next.haha!! Hey happy new year bro. The sad truth is that we can't control this greedy promoters whose prime interest is ... damn, now i'm confused, are they really in boxing for money? because if that is so then pac and mab should be fighting instead mab-jmm.
This will be a great fight but a low reward/high risk fight for marco. Marco should ask hoya to give him pacman because that's the most rewarding fight for him right now. A lose against JMM will make all this potential million dollar vanish into thin air. I say it is high time for marco to show hoya that he is the boss and coerce him to give him the pacman at all cost. Yeah, pal, those considerations. Risk/reward.

Well I guess it wouldn't be a record beating event but I'm sure it's not gonna be doing bad at all. MAB still has a lot of followers and knowing that he'll be fighting a dangerous and a technical fighter in JMM it might still get a lot of interest from boxing fans.I'm one of those buying MAB-JMM, buddy. It's just interesting to find out how many more would:)
I'm buying MAB-Soto too and Pac-Soto, along with Pac-JMM II and Pac-MAB II.

Yeah i heard. MAB-JMM would be interesting to watch too,
but honestly, its not PPV material
to tell you the truth i rather see pac vs Marquez. If MAB vs JMM Isnt PPV Material then that means who ever Paquaio fights that wont be PPV material.
If the Pac-MAB fight doesn't happen, I hope the WBC declares the
title vacant so Pac can have the chance to finally get the 130-lb belt
if he fights Soto in MacauHello there Thrilla, ol' pal!
You have an interesting proposition right there, buddy. Makes me think that if Pacquiao wins over Soto in that Macau fight you're thinking of, then the MAB-Pacquiao--IF IT HAPPENS-- rematch shall have Pacquiao defending the title and Barrera as challenger. If it happens via purse bid, Pacquiao stands to make the customary 70 percent champion's share.
Remote as the possibility seems that Barrera shall sign the dotted line under such an arrangement, the thought makes one smile and wonder if Arum is going in that direction.
Happy New Year, pal!:)
Barrera could give up his title and it wouldn't make a difference would it? I don't think so.As far as gate receipts and PPVs are concerned, that can very well be so. The two biggest fights at Jr Light in '06 were the two Pac-Morales fights and they were not for World titles. The first--in January-- was for an "International" belt and the second--in November-- was called an "Eliminator". It is said that Pacquiao-Morales III resulted in the second biggest turn-out of live spectators in the history of Thomas and Mack.
But with that said, one must take notice of the two Barrera-Juarez fights in the same year and acknowledge that both weren't best sellers. A world belt was on the line in both fights.
It is interesting to find out how well a Barrera-JMMarquez would fare in terms of revenues.
NEWSFLASH!! Barrera vs Pac Isnt happening. Paquiao had untill today to take the 50/50 deal and Bob aurum and pac refused it so its Barrera vs Marquez instead, its pretty much official.
