Will Jeff Lacy be the same?

After getting beaten by Joe I still thought he might still have a few steps ut in his last performance he just about lost(hbo commentators agreed that he lost) and I heard that now he will be out one year with arm surgery will left hook ever be the same or is he like a vargas after the oscar fight(tito made him loose a few steps and Oscar made him loose some more) will he be the same? state opinions Will he ever be the same? In a word - No! He's dun! Shame

I agree that if Lacy becomes as good as before, how good actually is that? Calzaghe outboxed him big time. Is that because Lacy was a bad boxer, or is Joe underrated still. If Lacy does become as good as before.....so what! It aint good enough for people to be talking about him too much. he's still good enough to beat manfredo, maybe even get his old belt back

I have to say I'm really dissapointed, not neccesarily with Lacy but with how his career is starting to turn out. There aren't enough tough guys in boxing today who have the sheer talent to just go right at the opponent and take them out. Lacy had a lot of potential. I want to see him succeed and get back to the top but everything seems to be trying to stop him from doing so.

i say no he won't even though he hurt himself and i had him losing his last fight, i think tsypko would have done the same even if lacy didn't get hurt. in order for lacy to get back and be a force in his division he is going to have to get his confidence back and he's going to have to take it slow. rushing him is only going to make it worse for him.. this is sure bad timing for an injury like he has, i'm starting to think lacy's luck has run out. i think he can come back, but he's gonna need to rehab his shoulder properly and then have three or four easy knockout wins against club fighters. even then, if the doubts are still in the back of his mind when he steps up again, he's fucked. physically, i think lacy could come back and be what he was before - he could be better if he improved his technique a little first, or at least started using a jab to set up his power shots.

Yes if he goes back to fighting old men and 2nd tier fighters..he should be the same old no jabbing powerpunching Lacy. Oh and BTW Omar Shieka kicked his arse

I was on the same page as all of you. After seeing the Lacy fight, after seeing him against Tyspko, I was sure Lacy was done. He has the air of vulnerability- the look of a dead man walking. I see one minuscule dot of hope on the horizon though. Lacy knows what we're all saying- he must realize he almost lost against a fighter he should have dusted. So where is his hope? Physically Lacy is a beast, I'm sure that left hook is as strong as ever. Part of the reason we didn't see it in his last fight was probably due to his injury. If Lacy still has it physically he's about to need it. He's about to hit a place where his career is on the verge of ending. Then, Lacy has two choices. Put your lack of confidence aside- in the face of fear over losing your career- and perform, or get out of the sport. He's about to enter the 'use it or lose it' zone. That's his only hope. Back against the wall, pressured, watching everything he has slip away. If there's any bit of thunder left in Jeff that's when it will come out.

I hope he recovers he was an exciting fighter and his career shouldn't be over now. I know he still has it cause in the first 2 rounds of his last fight, before his shoulder went out, he was fucking pounding the other guy and moving his whole body with his body shots. But then the shoulder went out. You got to give him loads of credit for just staying in there with an injurey like that, and to preform well enough to get the win even if it was a home crowd he had to impress without his left arm and he got through.

He looked real confident until after the first round. yeah in every round in his corner he looked very discoruaged and he looked like he didn't belong in there

he seemed like his old self in first 2 rounds. He boxed beautifully and he was pounding the guy in the face with right hands. But then he seemed to fade and thats why i thought he was never gonna be the same. Guys like courtney burton and Tommy hearns, they've been beaten up to many times and u can tell because they fade in the late rounds. And thats what i thought happened to LACY. But now we know its because the got that shoulder injury so idk. its possible

I did say that , and i am assuming he was a confident boxer, but looks are decieving a lot of the times. When he got in the ring against Joe he didnt look too confident. He always had a lot of confidence, and thats what made him good. He wasn't as good as he thought he was, but he didn't know that. Boxing is alot more mental than physical, and Lacy shows that.

I saw Lacy v Calzaghe but never saw Lacy in his last fight. I dont think he will ever be the same. Because now he knows he can get beaten. Before he fought Joe he might have felt noone could beat him, but now he knows even if he improves his skills. There is someone out there with his number. So his confidence will never be what it was. If he ever had any confidence in the first place that is.

To be honest, I think we've seen the last of Jeff Lacy as a pre-eminent contender. He's coming off of two punishing fights and now he's gonna be doing arm surgery? His confidence is shot, he doesn't believe in his power like he used to, I really don't think we'll see this guy again at the top.
