Bernard hopkins has named a few opponents for a possible july PPV
Calzaghe, Winky and Roy Jones JR
Who would you like to see him fight most?
i really don't care, they are all good opponents for his next fight, but if i had to choose i would pick calzaghe
my choice is winky wright, hopkins dominated tarver, who had roy jones number in 2 of 3 fights, a hopkins-winky match up may had the makings of a boring fight, but its still a significant, career defining fight for nard. if he wins, hopkins vs calzaghe should be next.
Joes vs Pros is just a show for fun. Nothing more, nothing less. I would like to see Hops and Roy fight just to prove you wrong in the sense that the fight would be competive, and close, even if it did end in a KO by Hops.
.
Was Roy actually on the show Pros vs Joes? I never saw or heard of this. Did they actually spar on the show?
And I'd also like to see the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight personally. But one question...where does it take place?
I am of the belief that a win over Calzaghe is equal to a win over Maskaev, if not a bit better. Maskaev could KO Hopkins badly, but Joe is the more skilled and respected fighter.
Hopkins isn't near what he used to be either. Still accurate, but no moreso than Roy. His power and output does not lead one to suspect a KO. And I said old Hops vs old Roy, meaning present versions (because they are both old right now).

We disagree. Moving on. I feel Calzage is the fight that needs to happen most in any case, at 175.
right on brotha, moving on i'm with you on that, opinions are great though, we all have them and we all believe ours to be the truth.
and yes you're right the Calzaghe fight is the only one that is worth a damn.....

Kevin Greene and John Rocker and others have been on pros vs joes. Jerry Rice was on it as well once. So what? It's a fun show. Discrediting Roy over that does not compute.
Ajamu was top ten by RING when Roy fought him. Roy is still rated top ten at 175 in fact. Again, Roy is not shot. He is definitely not what he used to be, but his power is not on Tarver's level and his activity level is not the type that will lead to some kind of domination over Roy. Nard's output is much les these days.
No reason to think an old Hops dominates an old Roy. Styles make fights.
not saying the old Hopkins would beat Roy, i'm saying that the present day Hopkins beats the present day Roy easily. and as far as the show i think it's lame and a dicredit to all pros, the show isnt' for them it's for guys that never had what it takes to make it or they had a run of bad luck and didn't make it.
if i was a pro in any sport i would keep my level of competiton at the pro level until it was time to call it a career.
and with styles make fights, Jones doesn't have the same style anymore, age has caught up with his reflexes, now he's hittable, and has a suspect chin, Hopkins creams him...............sorry but Roy aint on that level anymore.
jones is shot bro, he is a shell of a man compared to what he once was, especially now. plus who aged better as a fighter Hopkins or Jones? i think we all know the answer there.
Jones now has to fight average joes, everday folks like you and me, that's where his career is now

His next opponent is alzhiemers.
But since he wants to fight...at least let the fight be against someone he can beat.
Hopkins might be able to stop RJJ considering hard slaps to the face seem to be KO'ing him lately.
Winky And Joe? It will take more than throwing a lead right then ducking and clinching to beat those two.
Convincing losses and back to the rest home if he fights either of them.
Great line about Roy's OD'd slaps!
Cheers.
Eh, no. Jones is not shot. Erik Morales is more shot than Roy. Roy is older, can't take a shot as good, but he is still very fast and accurate and has good reflexes compared to most.
Hopkins has limited power and based on their 1st fight, there's no reason to think he would take the lead.
Hops may very well win, but there's plenty of reason to doubt that he would dominate and KO Roy.

Jones now has to fight average joes, everday folks like you and me, that's where his career is now, fighting busboys and taxi drivers and shit, if you don't believe me take a look, Jones is on a show called pros vs joes, what a fucking joke!
Hopkins knocks his ass out, jones doesn't want to fight a fighter like Hopkins, before he got knocked out that was one thing but after that, hell naw, jones wants fights that he knows he can win, at this point jones ought to have frank warren match his fights...............
Jones Jr. is shot and would not be any kind of competitive fight by Hopkins fighting at his calculated pace and Jones letting Hopkins lead the fight. Hopkins by mid to late round KO.

there is only one fight really that matters and that's the fight with Cazaghe, plain and simple.

Maskaev is possible but doesn't really mount up to anything other than Hopkins maybe becoming HW Champ, and probably vacating the belt right after. and if Oleg was to win, it would not be an impressive win, a HW beating a former middleweight, but style wise Maskaev doesn't stand a chance against Hopkins.
Winky just doesn't stand out to me, there is nothing really here in this fight. two extremely patient fighters waiting for one another to make a move, doesn't really strike any interest. it would be a real hard fight to sell.
Calzaghe seems to be the only fight worth a damn. actually the only fight period at this point. Calzaghe is approaching Hopkins record with the title defenses and that is something Hopkins says he wants to stop from happening. they're right around the same weight class so that there isnt any controversy in weight disparity, basically there is no disparity in weight so it's prefect. both fighters are on top of their game even though Hopkins is an old man by Boxing standards, but he is far from being old when he steps inside the ring. their styles are a great clash and they both have similar traits in their different fighting styles. both like to let their hands go on the inside and both have the ability to make their opponents fight their fight, the question is which one is going to make the other fight his fight. both guys come into fight in great shape, i've seen a good handful of Calzaghe's fights and i haven't seen him truely gas to where he was close to being stopped, so it's safe to say that Calzaghe is always in shape, and i've never ever seen Hopkins ever gas in a fight. it is the only fight for Hopkins right now, any other is just a disappointment and far as im concerned as a hardcore Hopkins fan,Hopkins is my favorite fighter, but he might as well stayed retired if they don't make the fight with Calzaghe.
Roy is still a top 10 lightheavy and Bernard is the best lightheavy in the world based on his most recent performance.
Seems logical. The fight is overdue for sure, but it would still be interesting to see what happened at this point in time...just out of curiosity.
Bernard would make a big mistake if he went to 160 to fight Winky. I doubt he will do that. Bernard would not lose 'convincingly' to Winky, not at all. Bernard has lost convincingly a total of one time, after his pro debut...and that was vs Roy. Nard is older now but he still never lost that convincingly. In fact, his most recent fight he WON convincingly.
Bernard vs Roy I might like to see. Roy's speed gives him a chance, and I'm sure Roy would be motivated for that fight. Bernard does not hit that hard either.
