if i remember right, Griffin was down on one knee, and Jones threw a punch which was the cause of his DQ.... Griffin was already in lala-land before the last punch... :boxing:
I still think that Jones shouldnt have been dq'd.
Griffen went down onto a knee, but he was also resting against the ropes, and Jones looked at him, looked at the ref for some inclination of what to do, saw nothing, and threw another punch.
Griffin was on his way to getting KO'd.

Im not sure he was going to get up before the final punch.
People also forget that the fight was initially ruled a KO win for Jones, only to be overruled by some dude.
He has lost fights.. Gerald McClellan beat him at the 1988 Golden Gloves (Jones struggled to get off the ropes), Montell Griffin beat him fair and square with Eddie Futch (out-feinted him and out-boxed him), and Antonio Tarver beat him fair and square (via one-punch knockout), and he's lost a few since, too.
Montell Griffen did not "beat" him fair and square.
And were talking about the professionals, you know, the fights that actully MATTER.
To the person who started this thread: Roy lost in his prime to a guy he hit while down, that he was on the verge of destroying. Then he KOd the guy in the next fight, 1st round. That was Montell Griffin, a very good and tricky boxer.
Roy was never really bested in his prime by anyone. Tarver was able to beat hm twice in is older age. At the time of that fight, Roy had more ring wear and had aged his body by losing lots of muscle mass in a decision to move from 200 lbs of solid muscle back down to lightheavyweight.
