The stadium at this "hard rock" hotel or whatever, only seats 5500 people...
yet the previous fight was at the staple center, and nearly sold out a stadium that holds 15-20 thousand...
ANd the fight was a very good fight...
Youd think they would go for a better arena for this fight but...
You got a point here Kfootball, why settle for a smaller venue and when the previous fight sold out at a larger one? The only reason I can think of is that the tickets must be priced higher and the sponsors must be generating more revenue for the promoters of this one.
Also, I always like big fights to be held at larger arenas so that the crowd noise makes the fight atmosphere electric. Some notable fights this year where the size and crowd of the arena made the fight quite enjoyable were the DLH-Mayorga, Pacquaio-Morrales, and Klitschko-Brock fights.
i was part of the klitschko brock crowd :D
and i agree. although a great atmosphere can be created by a small, 3000 person crowd.
Rewatch any part of BURTON-WARD. thats a tiny arena. No more then 3000. But it sold out and the crowd was going nuts the whole time.
But its MUCH easier to get an electric atmosphere if the crowd is huge, i definetly agree. but u cant count the small crowds out

Maybe it's because the promoter is anticipating a "Crap Fight". :D
arent u a toney fan?
but seriously... why????
"Seminole Hard Rock Arena, Miami"
i love james toney, i wish i could have his skills, but, i also have a sense of humor
The first fight after the Sultan fight. I saw Cooney too. Got him to sign my ticket stub. He was working the crowd pretty much the entire night. Haha.
Yeah, Cooney was a blast. Class act and SO approachable. Got to meet Briggs and McCline too. Plus Joe Tessitore from ESPN.
But my girl bought me the tickets as a surprise cuz she wanted me to meet Tyson. I was bummed out he didnt show, cuz there was all this hype about him being there and supporting Sultan.
Yeah, I stayed till after the final fight, talking to Gerry Cooney. Remind me which fighters were fighting...If it was the very last fight I dont remember much of it cuz I almost got into it with this drunk retard sitting behind me who ended up getting his faced clawed off by some strippers who he was trying to hit on and ended up saying the wrong thing.

Did you happen to stay for the walkout fights? I was getting such a kick out of the hometown guy taking a beating. All his buddies were there and for some reason were actually surprised when he lost the decision. Their fighter was aweful. No skill at all.

Semen-Hole Casino?
Gay.
Peter is such a terrible draw that he actually STEALS draw away from Toney and gets this fight stuck in a truck stop.
Way to go Nigerian Sloth.
Damn you.
=)
bwahahahaha he does look like a sloth, this thread is hillarious
because there's an all u can eat buffet in the casino's restaurant. after the fight james and sam will eat everything in the house
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHA!!!!! perfect hahahahaha
Reasons I can think of why its held in a smaller venue, not sure if they're right or not
1. Casinos put up money get fights (in order to attract customers and publicity)
2. Most of the money on a big fight like this would come from the TV licensing rather than the gate
3. Most of the gate comes from the high priced seats close to the ring rather than the nosebleed section.
Yeah, I was at that fight too. Was hoping to meet Tyson, but he never showed. And you're right...it's annoying as HELL that its advertised in Miami and not Lauderdale. I gotta commute over an hour from Miami to get there.
Then again, I gotta commute 30 minutes to work and I'm only about 10 miles away. Shitty traffic down here.

Wow you're not very smart. A truck stop? Have you ever even been there? It is quite far from beign a "truck stop". It is actually one of the hottest spots in South Florida at the moment and in case you forgot South Florida is pretty much the party capital of the country. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are HUGE cities. To call the Hard Rock a "truck stop" is just an idiotic comment.

The Hard Rock is actually about 1 Minute from where I lvie and it is a VERY nice facility. I went to a the Ray Austin-Sultan Ibragimov fight there. It isn't that big but it is quite nice. I also find it funny how it keeps being advertised as "Miami". It's in Hollywood which is a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. We're roughly 30-45 minutes from Miami. Just thoguht I'd chime in.

I actually agree with all of you in that it should be in a bigger place, but I'm personally happy with it, cuz I actually get to go and watch a great heavyweight fight. Thanks to the recent big fights at the Hard Rock, I get to see a fight that I probably wouldnt ever to get to be able to attend, since usually there arent any big fights in South Florida. But we seem to be making a comeback with our recent fights...Miranda-Gibbs (not really big, but was expected to be a bit more exciting), Toney-Peter II, Adamek-Dawson.
