Personally, at this point I don't know if I'd favor either fighter over Calzaghe.
I'd probably pick him to win a decision over Hopkins by outworking him, and I figure he might possibly be able to pull off a TKO over Taylor very late in the fight (maybe at 2:30 of the 12th round or so), but most likely I'd also pick him to win a decision over Taylor.
I have Calzaghe over Taylor
I have Calzaghe over old Hopkins
Calzaghe vs young Hopkins is very interesting. I d say hopkins, but calzaghe moves, and anyone who saw hopkins throughout his career knows movers throw him off a little bit.
Was I the only one surprised by a Dane only posting so they could mention the bestest boxer ever?
No more surpricing than seeing the scum-pack comming to their heroes rescue.
I agree with the majority (or is it unanimous) that Hopkins would have a better chance, for all the reasons listed here.
I want this fight to happen badly, but at 168. It would give Hopkins a chance to be the true champion at three weight classes during his career, and a Calzaghe win at 41 would probably rival Trinidad as his biggest win.

It's a tough call, but I tend to agree with you.As great as Hopkins is,at this point he's in danger of being outworked by any experienced world class fighter IMO.Taylor did not have the experience in their two fights, and Tarver simply showed no heart. Not that im trying to take anything away from Bernard's great win.Although in Bernard's prime I think he would definetly outbox Joe to a UD.As for Taylor,im not sure if he would be able to handle Calzaghe's unorthodox style and constant pressure.
Styles make fights. Hopkins has the worst style for Calzaghe so has the better chance. I'd have to favour JC in both though.

at last a good post that no nuthuggers have ruined yet, I think joe could beat both of them but it wouldn't be easy. Joe "could" out work bhop as he's not that active in the ring anymore, but would bhop alter his approch to the fight and go toe to toe. The taylor fight would be good, but I think joe would defo beat him. I feel taylor only beat bhop cos because bhop didn't put in the effort required, look what happened later on in the fight when he did turn it on, Taylor was forced back.
I would like to see joe fight Kessler but I understand why he won't, theres just not enough money on the line.

Neither - Kessler has a better shot than both of them.
Between the two i'd probably pick Hopkins as he is now accustomed to fighting at a heigher weightclass. Then again there's a very real chance age will finally be catching up with him.
I'd have Calzaghe something like a 60-40 fave against both if the fight was in the US. More ,if it was in the UK.
Hopkins would eat up Joe's wide punching slaps and have him on the defensive within 4 rounds. The only question in my mind is when will Hopkins hit the wall.
Honestly? Just my assessment...
Joe is crafty so a fight with Bernard would be pretty tactical, I believe. Hopkins won't come out like he did against Tarver...he's a smart man and will try and use a game plan to out hustle Joe. I think Bernard could do it by virtue of his size and solid punch and chin...but I wouldn't be shocked by a Calzaghe victory, either.
On the other hand, Taylor is young, athletic- but we say it again and again- flawed. He has some technical issues. I think one thing Calzaghe has proven is that he is a solid enough fighter, with technical skill, to exploit the flaws in another fighter. One thing Lacy was is young, strong, and athletic. Yes, Taylor is a much better overall boxer than Lacy...but I feel Joe can exploit the holes he find in Taylor's skill and beat him.
So....I'd favor Hopkins over Calzaghe, but Calzaghe over Taylor.Ditto._____________

I'm with this.
Taylor hasn't shown any indication he can't rough up anybody.
Hopkins and Calzaghe preferred though.
Cause that's a tough fight for Hop to win, I'm guessing. I had no doubts about Tarver, but I'm not sure about X and Joe C.
Speaking of Tarver..
If anybody can find it: have a look at all the people that thought Tarver was going to destroy X in the thread before their fight! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I agree a slightly younger Hopkins would be my favorite over Calz, however Taylor has shown that you can possibly outwork Hopkins to a UD. I think Calz has a good chance of outpointing Hopkins who has become increasingly frugal with his punches.

I'm going to have to go with the more popular pick here, Hopkins.
Hopkins has the skills to totally frustrate Calzaghe and throw him off his game plan. Hopkins has the experience to adapt to Calzaghe and win a comfortable decision. You saw Bika being dirty and making it hard for Calzaghe, right? Well Hopkins does the same thing.
a young hopkins beats calzone, now, probably. taylor will lose, blow's style takes advantage of all taylor's weaknesses
