Hmm, what can u say about his role as a HBO commentator? I really think he needs to stick to boxing, not commentating cause he gets pretty annoying at times
Damn, it's been a minute since I posted on this hea...
But Fran Charles works on the NFL Network, in between calling fights on B.A.D.
I thought RJJ was pretty good, and yes, Lennox sucks, but what does the boxing world think about Sugar Ray Leonard providing commentary? I thought he was pretty well spoken in his moments during the Contender...
Lewis is pretty redundant and sometimes loses himself. Like his description of Oleg Maskaev.
"Maskaev reminds me of some...Siberian guy...in Siberia..running...in the snow with snow shoes."
Yeah. He said that. On air. That was his take on Oleg. ....Yep.
lmfao...........
What happened to fran charles? did he get axed?

Think Lewis is a pretty decent commentator, who is steadily improving
- think he'll become top rate with a little more confidence, as he's got the brains & the experience.
Don't think he's quite up to the level of RJJ, Jim Watt or Sean O'Grady, all former fighters turned commentators, but remember Jones as being pretty patchy when he was starting out.
Marvelous Marvin was excellent, & he was pretty good from the start.
Big George was entertaining, but sometimes bizarre, with some of the strangest calls I've ever heard.
I think you'd call him local color rather than expert commentry.
Leonard used to annoy a bit - a little too intrusive, as well patronising at times, but he knew his stuff.
My favourite commentator's all time was probably Gil Clancy, & a team of him with Sean O'Grady & Tim ? was pretty damn good.
Jim Watt I find to be the best current ex-fighter turned commentator
- illustrative without getting in your face about it.
I imagine it's tough for HBO to want to find a boxer who both wants to do it and wont sound like a completely idiot... as well as being known to the boxing public. He's getting better and with time, who knows. I liked Foreman and RJJ the most because RJJ knew his shit and wouldn't kiss Merchant's ass or anybody else's. Foreman because I just loved listening to his personality as such a happy-go-lucky personality.
Basically Lewis is an excellent commentator. Some people raise some good points but he's definitely improved as a commentator. Basically, he's better than Roy Jones already and tied with George Foreman. He's absolutely better than Joe Frazier by now. I think he'll definitely improve with each telecast and he'll basically be the best commentator ever within three years. You definitely need to give him some time and he'll absolutely shock you. Basically, he just needs time to get better, or improve.
Haha.
Lewis is ok but annoying.
Roy was the best, but he did kinda mumble and kind of slur his words.
What can you expect?
RJJ is street.
Lampley is the best, Jones mumbles too much but I like them all. Showtimes commentators and FNFs commentators are as fuckin boring as an old dirty tennis shoe
I like what wlad said about RJJ.
"so this guy was comentating my fight, and said I have a glass chin, and well bad for him because he lost his next 3 fights by KO" LMAO!
I would love to see HBO dig up Tex Cobb and make him a commentator. Hell I'd tune into a fight JUST to hear him talk about it. There's no telling what he'd say and they wouldn't be able to control him!

lmao, took me a lil while to figure it out, hahaha

Rjj,jorge Arce If He Could Speak English Because His Commentaries In Fights Here In Mexico Are Prophetic, And Lampley Because Even Though Hes A Biased Bitch, No One Makes You Feel Boxing More Than Him

Canyou get me some of that good dank you smokin? Come on, Lewis still sucks, you know who else has really disappointed me..... Kellerman. Where did his personality and unbiased analysis from ESPN days go? its like he's lettin Lampley and Merchant suck the talent right out of him. At least Big George was funny! I gotta agree RJJ should come back, Merchant and Lampley should retire and the best trio around would be Steward, RJJ and Kellerman. Your picks?

My 2 favourite RJ quotes:
1. During, Hopkins vs Taylor I, when hopkins started to come on late, as RJ predicted from the start, and RJ says to Merchant:
"There's that deepwater Larry"
2. During Toney Vs Ruiz, RJ comments on Toney's counter right hand:
"Ruiz is standing up straight and getting caught with that right hand, he must be having flashbacks." (referring to his fight with ruiz)
