I am referring to their 2nd fight. Tarver was throwing many many combinations
and looked damn near unstoppable. I never was a big fan of Tarver but that
night he showed me alot. My question is why does he not fight like that
more often? Is he scared? Or is he just a natural counter-puncher that
does not want to take any risks. I think if he fought that way he wouldn't have
to always bitching about people not giving him his credit.
What yall think?
I dont know man, he cleaned the light heavyweight division (Eric Harding, Reggie Johnson, Montell Griffen,) at the time, then had his fights with Roy Jones and seemed on the brink of stardom with his personality and all that, then he blew it and lost to Glenn Johnson. His whole chance at superstardom then was gone, then he came back and beat Johnson, Beat jones, maybe he could salvage a long running dominance of the division, NOPE he got dominated by a middleweight Hopkins moving up. He could have been more than what he is if he didnt blow that first Johnson fight.
he used to its becuase of roy .. roy was scared of his power after he got caught .. and then he figured he could just knock hopkins out.. i started thinking tarver was a good fighter then its was all gone ..no hook no jab .. nothing but left hand bombs and not even with foot speed .. he can punch but if he only got one punch anybody can get away
I've always wondered the same thing. I think it's because he's confident in his countering skills and thinks he can get by on them, and since this style means he'll get his less, he's all for it. BUt no doubt in my mind he'd be a better fighter if he was more active.
