was a "Technical Knock-Out" be a misleading term if the winner did not actually "knocked-out" his opponent?
like the way a fighter beats up his opponent until the referee stops the fight, but the loser wasn't down, or the loser just quits.
I don't even consider it standing knock-out unless the loser is unconscious.
maybe they should change the verdict to "Submission", I think it suited best.
what do you think guys?
Winner by Submission, I hope boxing used it. MMA had it.
RTD = retired.
Which means he gave up on his stool.
RTD = Retired Techical Decision, meaning that it went to the cards.
I thought that was more for injuries than anything else.
That fight shouldnt have been decided by the cards.
The whole point is that the fighter is en route a KO from continous punishment, hence the refree stops the fight to protect the health of the guy on the receiving end.
Its Technicaly a knock out because if the fight was allowed to continue the fighter WOULD go down.
The whole point of the ref is to protect the fighters, as silly as that sounds, because laws do not allow blatant fighting, the whole reason combat sports are allowed is because there is a ref who supposedly is preventing fighters from getting "hurt"
I'm pretty sure Tom understands the concept of a TKO.
But was just pointing a few things out, I think they've been answered.
yeah, I understood what TKO means, but I just hope boxing should use a more accurate term for verdicts. win by stoppage and win by submission should be used also, though they are never going to use it because MMA had used it already, but I like to hear them use it. :D
hhmmmm.... tricky term... but i think it's just right....
a knockout (KO) is scored when an opponent is counted out and unable to continue...
when a fight is stopped due to cuts, referee stoppage, 3 knockdown rule, etc... then technically he was knocked out (TKO), because of the fact that the fighter was unable to continue....
hope this helps.... :D
I don't like the idea that just by stepping into the ring......you disqualify your corner from the fight. Simply because it becomes some serious bullshit.
Let's think back to the Floyd v.s. Judah fight. Floyd was whipping Judah's ass....and after the low blow and the whole riot incident.....everyone was claiming that Judah should have won by D.Q.
The same rule applied to Barrera v.s. Jones, and you see a guy almost dead from getting beat up who's corner jumps in to try and rescue him. That automatically disqualified Barrera.....simply because the ref did a horrible job that round.

But if the referee stops the fight, the other fighter didn't submit.
Submit means to give in, and when the ref jumps in between it usually means that the fighter wasn't willing to give in.
IE. Sit down and take the count.
yeah, but how about if the loser is unwilling to fight? its still TKO.
