Roach quoted in the Manila Bulletin, said: "That’s the fight that will give Manny more money. I would really love to see Manny fight Barrera next because if he (Pacquiao) doesn’t, Barrera will fight (Juan Manuel) Marquez and Marquez will beat Barrera."
Look, they offered him more than double to face Morales. Why couldnt they make a counter offer for the Pacquiao fight? Why not, "you want 1.5 for Pacquiao, we will meet you at 900-1Million", rather than "take 750K of leave it"
hey broh, cant u read it? how much is the HBO licensing fee? they offered him that much later on coz top rank knows they can sell the fight today unlike back in 2004 or 2005...
Dude,
Nacho and Marquez is asking for $1.5M which is the entire license fee offered by HBO for the rematch.
That is unrealistic!!! Clearly, the priced themselves out....and how could you do it twice? is he scared shit or what?
"Marquez and his manager Nacho Beristain did not do his career any favors. After the bout with Pacquiao, Marquez rejected a career high $750,000 for the rematch and demanded $1.5 million, which was the entire license fee offered by HBO. In 2005, Top Rank offered Marquez $1.5 million to face Erik Morales in the main event on an HBO pay-per-view that was scheduled to take place in the Fall of 2006. Again Marquez rejected the offer, requesting an unrealistic $3.5 million, a figure that according to Top Rank, was an amount that even the more marketable Erik Morales had never been guaranteed in his entire career "

Here is an article about the rematch negotiation, they offered 750, he wanted 1.5.....WHERE IS THE COUNTER? How does the promoter not even make a counter offer? It was basically a take it or leave it offer.
Marquez Wants $1.5 Million To Fight Pacquiao
The Manager of WBA and IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez has threatened to pull out of talks regarding the megafight against Filipino Manny Pacquiao on Feb. 26 if and when Marquez is not given a fair share of the purses.
Reportedly, Marquez has been training since November and even kept a spartan lifestyle during Christmas Day, training and working out at the gym while people enjoyed the festivities.
"There are a lot of difficulties, not just a few in the negotiations for Juan Manuel's purse," said Beristain. "Bob Arum's son (Todd Du Boef) and Fernando Beltran are proving a bit difficult. I hope that by mid-January, we should have a deal concluded but if not I don't think there's going to be a fight."
The manager explained that the contentious point lies not with Du Boef who he has yet to meet, but Fernando Beltran who he claims is offering "a ridiculous amount. Half as much as my fighter wants," said Beristain. "We want more because Juan Manuel is the champion. I consider this to be an abuse. We want money not peanuts."
"We want a minimum of 1.5 million dollars, and they're offering about half of that," Beristain cited, when asked what was being put on the table.
"We want this fight to go ahead. Juan has been working exceptionally hard in the preparation. And we want to show the fans Juan's class as a fighter, in order to gain access to better paydays."

Pacquiao is having a nice time thanks to Morales being 30 and battle worn, Barrera 32 and ring old, and Marquez being 33 and having lost a step.
Five years ago, or if Pacquiao was at a similar state, he loses to all three one way or another.
lots of wut if......
if only marquez accepted that rematch for $750,000 (which should be his highest pay) we wouldnt have this debate....
if only that stupidiot judge scored it correctly in the first round, PACMAN would have won the fight and we wouldnt have this debate...
if PACMAN won instead of the draw, for sure he'll give marquez a rematch and prolly accept $100,000 purse...
ifs continues....
Marquez has lost a step. You could say he was being more aggressive on purpose with Jaca, but he wasn't as fluid as he was. I don't see anyone winning a straight up shootout with Pacquiao. Marquez can match him for accuracy, but not power. If it comes down to who lands first, Marquez is screwed. Be nice to see if he stands and trades, though.
it wont last long if marquez does that though.

I don't know. I think Morales would have beaten him, but Barrera would have had trouble and probably lost. The only fighter Barrera really went to war with was Morales. Barrera has issues with fighters that take it to him throwing non stop power punches, such as Junior Jones. I think Marquez was was in his peak when he fought Pacquiao in 04, now he is on the downside.

No he's not ducking Marquez! If anyone ducked anyone it was Marquez not accepting the rematch!
Manny IS ducking the man that beat him, Juan Manuel Marquez
This is what both fighters made for the first fight so it's not a case of Marquez wanting more than Pacquiao, just wanting more money in general, and the main issue was problems with his promoter.
Juan Manuel Marquez $500.000 v Manny Pacquiao $650.000
..........................:nonono:
Ummmm no. Sue under the Muhammad Ali act? Don King received 5 million for "producing" Mayorga for his fight with De La Hoya. Mayorga almost pulled out when he found out.
Where in the Ali act does it say a fighter has to make more than the promoter?
So Marquez should have taken the fight, let Top Rank make more than him and Pacquiao combined, with the mindset of "I'll sue them afterwards and maybe I will win the difference of the money."
Really.
You can't price yourself out when you're not even being offered that much in the first place.
Marquez didn't come out and ask for three million or anything. Just to be paid as a champion should. Pacquiao was being paid as a champion and he wasn't the champion.
It's really pointless to talk about this if you're going to look at it only from one angle.
dude, nacho asked for $1.5M....
A lot of people thought Marquez won the fight with Pacquiao, regardless of the three knockdowns.
I would have to think hard, but I don't ever remember a fighter being floored three times in the first round, and then fighting all the way to the end.
99.9% of the time, when a fighter is dropped three times in round one, he gets knocked out before the final bell. And Marquez did not run in the fight or try to stay away, he stood there and fought because he doesnt have the legs to stay away from Pacquiao, who is quick on his feet.
this is not an excuse, but pacquiao broke his left hand after the 3rd kd thats why he wasnt able to follow up for the kill....
Marquez wanting more money had nothing to do with being scared, it's called GREED. He was greedy and it cost him.
It's easy for anyone to say "you wont accept this amount of money to fight me so you must be scared"
i think they're not being greedy. plane and simple, Nacho priced themselves out of the rematch...he wants a retirement money for marquez and himself just in case....
And while we are on that subject, you don't even know the facts of the story, because Top Rank, who promoted Marquez at the time, was getting more money than Marquez for the fight. I think a fighter has every right to turn down a fight regardless of the money, when his promoter is making MORE than him.
Isnt that the reason why Pacquiao left Murad and Shaw? Because they were making fortunes off of his fights while he was making less in the end.
that's a lie.... if they knew that top rank is going to make more money than the fighter for this rematch, they could proceed with the fight and sue top rank later based on muhammad ali act...pacman sued murad and settled out of court for $850,000
here, reading is essential.....here's an open letter to nacho...

there are some more articles about the supposed marquez-pacman rematch...i know you can also search the internet...

So if a lot more people than yourself see it the same way, then fighting Barrera is a waste of time. As it stands now, fighting Barrera for Pacquiao makes sense only for Barrera.
If plenty of people think it's waste of time, how will it sell more than a fight with Marquez, which most people consider is unfinished business?
because barera and pac are superstars :D
there are few hardcore fans out there. most people that buy ppvs are casual fans. i beleive they make up for the bigger market. ergo.
That's right. Pacquiao has the right to turn the Marquez fight down if he chooses. I wouldn't blame him if he did. But as you say, it's a business, and the way I see it, a Marquez rematch is better business for Pacquiao than it is to fight Barrera.
barera and pac would sell more IMO. marquez would be vindication for pac. he beat barera he dont need to prove anything else.
boxing is business. marquez dont sell. pac was the draw.
He wanted more money than what he was being offered by Top Rank, not necesarily more than Pacquiao. Top Rank was going to make more money than both fighters combined for that fight if I remember. Shouldnt the fighter ask his promoter why am I getting paid this, and you are getting paid that, and I'm the one fighting.
Same reason why Mayorga almost backed out of his fight with De La Hoya, when he found out King was getting 5 million for producing him for the fight, and he was get either 1 or 2 mill.
It's not a question of opinion.
It's what happened. Plain and simple as that.
It's not a matter of what I think or you think. That was what was proposed to Marquez, he refused it and chose another way to go.
my point was marquez had problems with HIS management. he could have taken that fight won and switched management. im sure after if he beat pac he would be getting bigger paydays.
You don't even know what you're talking about, my friend. Yes, the draw can get a sizable cut. That's not the issue here. MARQUEZ didn't see why he should get less and chose not to go with the fight for that money.
That's it.
This isn't what you think is right or wrong. It is what happened regardless.
boxing is business. marquez dont sell. pac was the draw.
admit it mang!
marquez priced himself out of the rematch coz he's afraid of PACMAN...
if he gets KTFO, thats it! its goodbye for him! marquez is only protecting himself for an early retirement and besides boxing is only his means of livelihood and cant afford to go on fishing everyday...
and why should he receive the bigger slice of the pie? he got KDed 3x!!!
he got lucky that dubious ref cortez didnt waive him off during the 3rd knock down...

Alright man. I can see trying to explain this is a waste of time. You obviously cannot see, despite it being shown to you, why that situation came to pass.
End of story.
what i cant see? you have your opinions cant i have opinions? you made your points i made mine.
