They both have great defenses. Although Toney is not as fast as he used to be, he is still great defensively.
But let's forget about the Toney of now.
Did the middleweight and super middleweigh Toney have a better defense than Floyd Mayweather?
yeah, but i say Toney because Mayweather avoids punches with more foot movement while James' overall defense (hands, arms, body movement, etc) when used all together, is near impossible to get through..
and if you're just talking about "rolling shoulders"... James takes it, hands down
Zab Judah won three rounds, and might have won a few more if he wasn't such a useless punk.
haha...you know a fighter is great when fans have to keep pointing out how a fighter lost 3 rounds even after dominating the rest of the fight...
"Hey! Judah won three rounds vs Floyd!"
"Yeah man! Floyd dropped 3 rounds to Judah!"
"Floyd almost lost to Judah! He lost three rounds!"
If anything, Floyd proved that even when faced with a speedy and powerful young fighter with a different style than he is used to fighting...he may lose a round or three, but then adjust and figure out what he needs to do to win...
that is what great fighters do...
"Ali was dropped by Chuck Wepner!!! Despite dominating the entire fight and stopping him, Ali was dropped by Chuck Wepner! All hail Chuck!!!"
Oh Lord... :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
toney was blessed and floyd just is a work out warrior if floyd didnt outwork everybody he would be a bum .... and work out warriors dont usaully last long
Hard to say. Floyd's never faced a prime Nunn or Jones Jr level of fighter.

I don't think people look at the whole picture when they look at Floyd...
many of you only see God given talent and young reflexes...
Floyd rolls his shoulders from punches just as much as Hopkins and Toney do...
Floyd sticks his jab just as they do and jabs to the body as many others do not do...
Floyd crosses his arms and takes shots to the arms and body while rolling or evading shots to the head...
he is not all "pull back quick like Jones Jr"..his conditioning allows him to take it to the body and arms...his skills allow him to roll and block punches to the head and counter...etc...etc...
he has some old school stuff in there if you notice it...
Good post.
Agree 100%
Karma for you.
Both fighters make it look easy thats for sure. I think Floyd was blessed with more talent and he works much harder than Toney does, so he has the better defense.
Naseem Hamed was quite hard to hit early in his career. I suppose he is a bit like PBF but Hamed i suppose relied on reflexes even more than PBF. I wonder how well PBF could take a really good punch from a hard puncher.

toney by far. floyd's defensive skills are damn good, but most of his manuevers complement his god given talent. alot of his game still involves those fast jerks in which he moves his head straight back to counter, something that's based on reflexes more than anything. floyd used his feet more and could run circles all night, while toney could stand flat footed right from the get go and be successful. if floyd slowly degraded into a fatass, there's no way he'd be able to do what he does, but toney has been at it for quite sometime.
