i hope you mean vitali becuase wladamir sucks .. all he fights are small heavyweights... did you see the davarell williamson fight he was dancing around klitschko and put him down ... steward said williamson couldnt keep that up becuase hes not ali... ali would abuse the stiff slow robot... vitali is 2 times as good as wladamir.. if brock was bigger he would of knocked wlad out he was punching was harder and is about 30 pounds less if he was in good shape...
mccline,,,,derrick jefferson and wolfgramm are smaller heavies than wlad? duh :duh: wlad destroyed those guys. the 3 he lost to were smaller and 2 of the 3 losses were due to him underestimating there chins and punching himself out
** Wlad at his best would be a stylistic nightmare for Ali. Bigger, stronger, just as fast, more powerful with a wrecking ball jab.
Ali never had to maintain his run and gun style for the duration of a fight. Eventually he had to slow down, but by then he'd sliced and diced his man so there was no danger. Two fights he stands in the pocket and fights early against sluggers were Banks and Cooper where he's dropped by left hooks, out on his feet in the Cooper fight.
Wlad doesn't use a left hook much though, and there's the strangeness of his career that cause questions about his heart, chin, and stamina. Wlad at his best can beat most anyone, but Ali ain't just anyone. It'd be a good fight and it'd be interesting to see how Ali would adapt to Wlad's advantages. He never had to face anyone like that. I would think Ali would have to sneak in a well timed right in the midrounds to win this fight outright, because otherwise it's a close decision Ali already had too many gifts from the refs and judges in his career.
Other than the "equal speed" part, I more or less agree with the post. Wlad would be a challenge; but I don't think he'd get the job done.
Klitsckos dont match ALi for speed or pure boxing ability.... U cant hit what u cant see, neither does any other modern day heavyweight. On top of that, Ali always had a gameplan that bamboozled oppoenets in his prime, KLitshckos and other modern HW fite with 1 game plan and style, which is why HWs losing their appeal.
Now, Toney is a guy had skills and gameplan. I rekon toney and Holyfield would definitely go full 12 rds wif great ALi.
end of the day, they are all quality fighters, and there really aint much in it.
( i tell u what, i was impressed wif Vitali's kickboxing ability!)
"a little awkward with his feet"...this is the key, or at least one of them.
Wlad is incredibly athletic and rather fast for such a big man; but he doesn't move as good as he might, and I also don't think he has the stamina to fight at the kind of pace a young Ali would set.
Good eye with the footwork thing, btw.

Calling Toney a 'junk fighter' just goes to show how little you know about his career, but it's your opinion so I'll leave it at that. Secondly what the heck is a jughaid?? I don't speak gibberish. If any of today's heavyweights are to be fighting a prime Ali, they would have to be in their prime as well. If you pay close attention to my post, I give the notion that Ali would be facing a healthier Toney, not the tubby 38 year old of today. The started post never said anything about fighting a 26 year old prim Ali, by the way.
** So, what's your stupid science experiment, matching a "healthier" fatboy against a 63 yr old Ali?
Fatboy has become a junk fighter. He can't punch his way out of a chicken bucket, and sits on the ropes doing the fatboy ropadope. He couldn't even outwork Ruiz or Rahman, 2 heavies known for their slow pace. He relied on steroids for Ruiz and acted like he entered a toughman contest for Rahman. Zip for ring generalship and conditioning.
Now, probably the best Toney was the Jirov fight, but he's still just a squatty little cruiser counter popkorn puncher type going up against a tall swift prime heavy with a shredding style outside style thats a bad stylistic matchup for fatty. It'd be like shooting fish in a barrel as Ali peppers fatty's jughaid til he's well seasoned, gets dizzy and drops.
Ali moving around Klitschko would have been too easy. The bug guy is a little awkward with his feet. Ali would probably decide to eat a couple rights just to prove he could, which he could.

Absolutely. Ali's elusiveness would have been the biggest obsticle for these big men. The reason I give Lewis a better chance than Wladimir was simply based on Lewis's consistancey within a fight; he usually didn't get as mentally frustrated as we've seen Wladimir become.

Hey Hey prime Frazier was a beast and was perfectly matched against Ali. He also had the power to make Ali notice him, which Toney doesn't. And I'm not a Toney-hater, I think he'd have as good a chance as Klitschko, but don't insult Frazier in this. There is no Joe Frzier today so his name is irrelevant.
IMHO a prime Frazier would have beaten Klitschko by later round stoppage.....and maybe Lewis too.
Would Lewis have become discouraged by Ali's chin and/or movement? I think Klitschko would have.

If you read my post again...you will see that I give Toney very little chance. You're right, Ali was a great mover and jabber, but you are forgetting that Toney is one of the best inside fighters in the sport, if a bomber like Joe Frazier was able to get inside Ali, what makes you think a Technicaly proficient fighter like Toney wouldn't be able to do the same with more ease??. So that pretty much tosses your 'common sense' out the window. I'm also talking about a trimmer, injury free Toney. If his short pudgy frame is able to compete with those much larger than him, and with many injuries at that, that demonstrates that sheer skill will take you a long way. A healthy James Toney is a nightmare, but while he still may not have the stuff to rattle Ali, I still mantain that he would give Ali trouble.

I saw, man. It's just the notion. Ali wasn't a god or anything; but he had more than enough to do away with Rahman, Briggs, Maskaev, and Valuev. Klitschko would give him trouble as would Lewis because of their size and skills.
And I kind of agree with the Real Ninja where Lewis's chances of getting a win over Ali are concerned. Lewis had a style that would give Ali a hard time....I still think Ali would more than likely win; but I am admittedly biased.
Would Lewis have become discouraged by Ali's chin and/or movement? I think Klitschko would have.

No, I meant Wladimir becasue he is a "current champion"; but Vitali would have been bothersome to Ali as well, though I feel neither could have beaten him.
Concerning Brock, he was impressive; but Wladimir fought the wrong fight for the first four rounds. If he'd been boxing the same way he did from round 5 on to the end, Brock would have had much more trouble.
Yup. couldn't have said it myself.

lol,,,your comparing a heavyweight toney to frazier? frazier was a heavyweight with power and a bob and weave style and also had a great left hook. toney has no power at heavyweight and blocks punches well but doesnt bob and weave. he'd be a sitting duck for ali;s jab and wouldnt be able to get inside. that matchup would be a joke

** Fatboy is a modern day Willie Meehan, nothing but a junk fighter. He's ugly enough to give anyone pause to be anywhere near him much less climb into the ring with him.
It's quite comical to see you jughaids prop up a tubby 38 yr old bucket of slop against a prime 26 yr old Ali. Please, keep the peels of laughter coming!
No, but I'm very interested in hearing why you think it's a joke. Please elaborate...
common sense. ali was a great mover and jabber and was 6'3 with an 80" reach. how in the heck do you think short pudgy toney would be able to get inside and give ali trouble? were talking a prime ali here
Maybe Wladimir Klitschko. Toney is way too slow. Ali would dance around his fat ass. Ali would really dance around any of the heavyweights. Only Wladimir has a chance I believe.
My little sister - none are fit to even escort Ali to the ring - Ali's minders would have a shot at HW gold with the current crop. HW division is as poor as I remember for years and years. Its so sad when all that people can get excited about is Wlad K - a man who had to have his life saved when in the ring with none other than Ross Pruitty. A man who Corrie Sanders quite literally destroyed. A man who lost to Lamon Brewster..... oh dear. Iam not suprised Lewis keeps considering a come back.
Thank god we have ability in the lighter weights. The HW division is total dross
LMAO!!!!!!
Brother, I'm telling you, Ali would beat the unholy shit out of Hasim Rahman. Rock's got heart; but he doesn't adapt well in the ring.....never did. And that jab of his wouldn't do him much good if he couldn't find nothing to hit. Because of his size, I'd give him 6 rounds, maybe 7 against the Ali that destroyed Cleveland Williams.
ali vs rahman would have been a joke. slow rahman would have been lucky to land 5 punches on ali
