What do you think? Because his era had some good fighters, but then again if Prime Joe Louis, Prime Muhammad Ali, or Prime Larry Holmes were around I think they would find success in his era.
Right, it was no lucky punch. Marciano was coming on strong, and even if he didn't land that punch he would have likely KO'ed Walcott somewhere in the 13th-15th round.
Just to clear up, towards the end of the Walcott fight he was coming on very strong and if you watch closely he was landing alot of shots of Walcott eve while he was trying to use the ring. So yeah Marciano took a beating in that fight, but he didn't take a beating all the way up until he landed that right hand, I'd say the last two or three rounds he was doing very well for a guy who probably couldn't see much.
He wasn't the best, I don't know who would say that, but he is without any doubt ONE of the best. Only a complete hater would rank him outside of the top ten at heavyweight.
Are you calling me a hater?
That question doesn't make any sense. A record isn't just arbitrary numbers split by a dash. It can't change without his fights having changed.
So yeah, if he had lost a bunch of fights, his legacy would be less.
That's what I was thinking when I saw the thread title...
I think any fighter who beat all the good opponents in his era would be considered great, period.
Well said Hollister!I completely agree! No need to say anything else.If the haters can't understand that, than I really feel sorry for them:sad:

That's a big "if". If he didn't have the record then that means he would've had losses... to who and in what manner? One of his most memorable moments is often overlooked as a big downside. Jersey Joe Walcott was taking a shit on Marciano having all ready knocked him down when he landed the ridiculous hook that is so famous. A win is a win.... but just kinda' goes to show you.

Exactly you can't take anyone seriously that ranks him out of the top 6 guys ever.

but for his era i think it was tough to have that record, so i think its impossible to say ho is the best of all time, because they had different historys and eras...
I don't think so, no. A lot of people hype Marciano to be the best simply because he was an undefeated white champion. Granted he was a good fighter but I will never rank him as one of the best, of course opinions are like assholes....
